A Story of the how the plains Indians hunted the Tatanka (Buffalo).
It always took a group effort, from the time the Lakota's Wolf & Coyote (Skin Wearer)
scouts who always be in front of the tribe who followed the Tatanks, these scouts
would sneak up on the Tatanka. After these scouts spotted the Tatanka,
they would let the tribe know the location & the Tribe would stop & women would set up camp & the Hunt Began.
The Wolf & Coyote (Skin Wearer) Scouts would get the Tatanka into position, most likely in a canyon, draw or some elevated postion. The men & boys would chase the Takanka war hooping to help get the Tatanka into position.
The Horseback Warriors would take over and ride up on the Tatanka and get them in place for the Warriors who would use spears, bow & arrows to kill the Tatanka.
The Tatanka was very important and Sacred to the Plains Indians for every aspect of their lives from clothing, blankets, tipi coverings, moccasins, tools, awls, water carrier, pots, buckets, bow string, knives, ceromonies, food (winter-dried food), toys, dolls, etc.
In a Tatanka Hunt all of the People did there part to help the hunt. The only sucessful hunt worked if everyone helped.
