    Do you think that the Gram Cracker stove kit would fit comfortably inside an Altoids tin? I currently store my stove inside one nested inside my Caldera Cone and two mugs, and it'd be nice to keep that arrangement.

    I meant sidewinder. Does the Ti-Tri, burn wood better, because it’s taller?

  • @billpetersen298
    @billpetersen298 2 роки тому

    I just ordered the small Ti-Tri, with inferno. From the website pictures. It was really hard to get a feel for the sizes. Which set would be best. For light weight, good fire burning, cooking etc. is the Ti-Tri better burning, than the caldera, because it’s taller?

    I've used esbit tabs for years..it amazes me how individuals have such a hard time getting the tabs lit. My tip for easily lite'n esbit tablets; simply take your knife shave off slowly the top of the tablet into the natural channels. Not much just enough to dust the channels. Bic lighter will ignite esbit in 2 seconds. Easy Pesy Lemon squeeze. Good to Go..

    Interesting setup Elias. but that tall titanium "pot" is inefficient compared to my aluminum pot. PLUS the innovative "Fissure" cone would be unnecessary if an efficient height-to-width ratio pot was used. I have used my TD Sidewinder for many years and have the ti Inferno gassifier insert for using wood for fuel to melt snow in winter. Usually I burn ESBIT tablets in a Brian Green (BGET) tablet holder to retain the ESBIT "juice" for a much longer burn time than the Gram Cracker. I use the included Open Country 3 cup anodized aluminum pot as it's the most fuel efficient both in its height-to-width ratio AND material. Plus it is large enough to do actual cooking such as spaghetti ordeal Pad Thai. I "live to eat" and not the reverse. I also bought TD's KOJIN alcohol stove as I like it better than the included 12/10 stove.

    Great looking kit. I have a question, is this safe to boil water in? Don't these beer cans have some sort of plastic liner inside them? Thanks!

    • @geetus
      @geetus 2 роки тому

      I had the same thought. Beer cans are lined with BPA or some plastic substitute -- heating it up and pouring it down your throat doesn't seem like a good idea.

    Is the Titanium version shown here superior to the Basic Caldera cone version which is Aluminium??.....I am aware that Titanium has a better heat resistance, but how does Aluminium compare??. I have seen Aluminium scorch brown but Titanium seems to just "Blue" when heat hits the metal. I also am aware Titanium is stronger. Would the Aluminium version of this still be adequate??

    • @tatataloo5217
      @tatataloo5217 4 роки тому

      This comment is a year old, but I’ll get at it anyway. The titanium version resists bending a little better, and gives you the ability to burn wood inside it. The aluminum version can’t handle the heat of a fire inside the cone.

    • @LeifWarner
      @LeifWarner 2 роки тому

      As said, the aluminium should be fine, though I prefer titanium - it feels a little more "solid", in that the aluminum feels like if you bend it it will stay bent, whereas the titanium feels like a stronger, shiny springy piece of metal. It also lets you burn wood.

  • @gearjunkie8681
    @gearjunkie8681 5 років тому

    How does the Aluminium version which is shown here stand up to heat?? Does the metal scorch brown??. I notice Titanium seems to just "Blue". Any additional answers would be welcome

    Excellent demonstration of THE best gassifier type wood burning stove. For 3 season backpacking I use. my ti Sidewinder with ESBIT fuel tabs (& BGET tablet holder) for summe. Great stove and the most efficient stove for using ESBIT or alcohol. The cone concentrates the heat and is the best windbreak/heat conservation device. ->For winter and melting snow I add the Inferno insert and yes, as advertised this setup is HOTT!

    I was really disappointed in this stove. I bought the calderas cone system. Your video states it only take a half an oz to boil two cups of water. I have found it takes the entire measuring cup of denatured alcohol to get a boil. A half oz burns out in about 3 or 4 minutes. This is in 70 degree weather and I am using a snow peak trek 700

    I have this and it is superb. I need to buy the inferno though and suggest anyone buy it as well. Thanks for the video. Suggest though that people never light the unit sitting on pine needles given the fire risks and always close the meths bottle before lighting the stove. I had one bottle catch on fire on me and it was not a fun situation. Cheers and thanks again.

    hi. i like the idea of the inferno very much, adding a gazifying , second burn affect, but maybe, since the movie was too short, i couldn't see it happening. without it, you don't really have to use the double wall structure. isn't it ?

    Ingenious products from Trail Designs! I'll be purchasing a Ti-Tri soon! Your videos are excellent--very informative and helpful. BTW, what type of lighter is that in the videos? I like the idea of an extended lighter for these purposes and love that the neck collapses into the body making it more compact.

  • @traildesigns1
    @traildesigns1 12 років тому

    Thanks for watching! It's always kind of hard to estimate boil times because water temps, outdoor temps and altitude vary. However, with all those caveats and the big error bars, I can do a 2 cup boil in 6-8 minutes with the side wings with a ~12ish minute total burn. However, time to boil isn't the interesting bit. What's most interesting is that with the more controlled burn and cone efficiency, I've been able to get a 2 cup boil under the right circumstances on a half a tablet!
