What Is Up, Indonesia? (WIUI)
Приєднався 31 тра 2021
What Is Up, Indonesia? (WIUI) is an independent media platform that curates Indonesian socio-politics in an accessible manner for internationally-raised Indonesian youths. Here in WIUI we use memes, jokes, and pop culture references to talk about politics to make it more approachable and less intimidating.
WIUI was first founded in August 2020 as a primer for internationally-raised Indonesian (those who go to an English-speaking school, university abroad, born/raised overseas) who were unfamiliar with the intricacies of Indonesian politics.
Many who are educated internationally are not fluent in Bahasa Indonesia, making the country’s political discourse inaccesible through the conventional news. Although English sources are available, most are not beginner-friendly. We hope to bridge this gap through WIUI.
On UA-cam, we will have discussions, deep-dives, and casual conversations about Indonesia sociopolitics with various actors and guest speakers.

The Importance of Science and the Stories We Tell Ourselves - Bagus Muljadi
Bagus Muljadi, an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Nottingham, explores the intriguing relationship between science and mysticism, suggesting they aren't always competing paradigms. In this podcast we reflect on whether we still hold hope for Indonesia's future and discuss the crucial role universities play in shaping a nation's standards of knowledge and best practices. Bagus also challenges Indonesia's national narrative, asking: what are the stories we tell ourselves that drive us forward? Do we even have such narrative?

Why we made "What Is Up, Indonesia?" (WIUI) ft. Abigail Limuria & Faye Simanjuntak
Переглядів 7 тис.3 роки тому
Hey Wuiboos! In this first episode we talked about why and how we created WIUI, how it expanded, and how.... we ultimately lost control. We roasted some of y'all weird DMs and emails because, let's be real, some of u guys need therapy. But we love you! Who would've thought that a news acc will have furries/dilf/milf lovers as the majority of their followers...... We also took a trip down memory...
Actually plagiarism is a problem in all place.. Not just Indonesia.. Our problem is brain drain due to our educator's low salary.. Imagine being a person with PHD and offered to teach for only 300 USD per month.. That is UGM rate.. My friend who work in snack factory paid 2,5 times of that..
Menit 26:31 - 26:33 kepotong ya kyaknya. Jadi agak patah argumennya.
Agree

Sorry to say this, but a lot of still appear to live in a world of fantasy, nothing is proven, no critical thinking, but yet they still believe. 😂

Indonesia mercusuar dunia, is it narrative?
I think why people watch some of pak Bagus and pak Gita podcast is all about the competence guest and host. So, people do not feel like 'dibohongi', because a lot of gimmicks from government we have
The good scientist is the one who takes the grain of salt; the bad one is the one who believes in scientism :D

First time came to this podcast.. thanks algorithm.. after End Game, Chronicle and Project Malaka.. really enjoy the talk... can't wait for a talk about Attack on Titan with @bagusmuljadi.. and elaboration about (we can called as a project) a needed of Indonesian new narrative (based on Nusantara storytelling but more fun)

58:12 Nahhh 😭😭😭
Garden of world
Everything said here is absolutely true! Indonesian universities have failed to safeguard the values of education and knowledge. The plagiarism case is literally a gut punch to our entire university system, I am pretty sure this is not the first case and I am very certain there are more cases of active plagiarism done by upper echelons of societies that will do whatever it is necessary to have a certain academic degree attached to their names. This is due to the fact that our society is obsessed with degrees but not with knowledge.
sudah pasti yang bisa diukur, bukan perasaan dong
interview Mas Asisi!
So interesting
What's a narrative? 46:33
i am the one of many people who losing hope
this kind of podcast is what we need the most.. but in this economy.. most people will just eat all the entertaiment theme podcast. but this kind of talk is actually entertaining for me. Good talk guys.
What an amazing convo! But let me give my two cents: it seems to me that you guys don’t do justice in terms of conceptual analysis. You're conflating mysticism, supernaturalism, and mythology while trying to make a rigid demarcation between science, scientism, and scientific thinking. Believing in God is mysticism, but believing in pelet, santet, etc. is not. We better call it shamanism, or in more general terms, supernaturalism. Mysticism has more to do only with the absolute, divine, or supreme being (God). Al-Ghazali that you mentioned is one of the mystical philosophers, along with Ibn Arabi and so on. Scientism, historically speaking, originally referred to methods and attitudes attributed to scientists (seems close to your definition of scientific thinking, right?). Only after religious and political leaders used that term to mock scientists did the term scientism become, in Dawkins' words, "dirty."
Every religion has valuable teachings, and a bunch of garbage mixed in. The valuable teachings across them tend to be similar, as well. Its a rough guidebook to survive in an uncertain world, where there's bacteria and viruses, that you (back when they were made and through most of the period where they were in use) don't know about. But given they're practically random rulesets, and only the ones that happened to have the right rules included actually survive, there's generally a lot of extra, superfluous crap in them. None of this is to dunk on religious people, just my view of religion as a whole.
podcast of the year periodt
I am the "older" generation and super appreciative with this educational content in a plethora of shits people put up on the internet. Thank you. Ps. Itu pendemo 98 masih main senioritas!? Shame on you.
Enjoy this ep so much. One of my fav is how he bypass the edu by writing email totally enlight me. All those people maybe good at all subject but not all of them expert on writing something. I want to improve and practice my writing skills more. And all of the topics here are totally legit.
I think, Mas Sabrang sangat menarik kalau jadi tamu selanjutnya

Gw tidak menyangka bakal nangis nonton ini. Bukan drama tapi rasa sedih nya, gedeknya, dan keselnya sampai ke sini. We never know what's truly happening behind closed doors. In the last few minutes, gw mau nambahin opsi ke 4. Opsi 1: Kaesang Gibran beneran want Indonesia maju Opsi 2: They don't wanna break the chain of power Opsi 3: They're hiding something Opsi 4: I believe God will serve justice for them, if they get away in this world, they won't in the afterlife. I'm not trying to preach, tapi kadang nyesek nya itu melihat orang2 yg menyelewengkan kekuasaan, makan duit rakyat ketika orang2 banyak kelaparan ( nga harus ke Afrika) di Jaksel lampu merah you could see how many kids are deprived of good quality education, healthcare, kadang mau nangis tapi I don't have the power to change this inequality in an instant. Kadang hilang harapan tentang Indonesia, tentang kapan a just and equal playing field akan diberikan. Tapi what keeps me sane, gw bukan anak pesantren, I barely read the quran, so I started learning the religion from Ustad Nouman Ali Khan, for those of you who are interested, you could look up his free content on UA-cam, actually I personally subscribe to Bayyinah TV. Anyway, there's this passage in Al Fatihah, where in detailed Arabic, going to the roots of Arabic, that not any single sin that is not audited. Seen or not seen, it will be held accountable. I could only hope, jika umur sampai 2045, Indonesia beneran jadi negara maju. Dimana keadilan sosial beneran diperjuangkan. Dimana every Indonesian could fulfill their potential dan punya scientific thinking and not easily manipulated by hoax and UA-cam algorithm. P.S. Keep producing these contents. Thanks Jov and Abigail for explaining, commenting and showing so much emotion 😂 ❤ 🎉
Episode tiga. Keep producing these gems ❤
Sekali-kali undang Maya Hikmatin coba.
33:42 Is it mistisism?
I think you guys cut too much of all the good parts😂. "Radicalism", "not a zero sum game", and I forgot some of them tbh, but I guess that must've be really good
I love this
now i'm already a fan. Thankyou for this podcast.
okay, here we go to leaaarrnn
Filipinos are everywhere. In any country there must be Filipinos, even they become permanent citizens in any country. Unlike Indonesia, the country with the largest population in the world, but Indonesians are rarely found in any country. Except recently, Indonesians can be found in Malaysia (still one nation), Japan, Taiwan, for women usually in Hong Kong and they are in other countries only temporary workers because of economic demands not their own will and they will return to Indonesia, unlike the Philippines and India who make new homes and have children there.
This should be trending tho 🔥
Undang Sabrang dong...
