Oh Inland Empire - The Song
While listening to one of my old Mason Williams tapes this afternoon, he played his version of "Oh Shenandoah." I’ve always found it to be a melancholy song, and whenever I feel that way, I start thinking about growing up in the Inland Empire during the '60s. Then, it hit me-Shenandoah has four syllables, just like Inland Empire. So, I decided to "borrow" the tune and change the lyrics to reflect my childhood memories. Unfortunately, my singing days are far behind me, so I created a karaoke version instead

I Remember Inland Empire People - The Book - Vol. 1
Переглядів 12621 день тому
A few of you know that for the last couple of weeks I have been writing a book about people in the Inland Empire that I found inspiring. Some them I have posted Facebook stories that I have supplemented and reedited, a majority of them are people who knew me by name as I did them. What they all have in common is they were all from the Inland Empire and they all have interesting as well as inspi...

There is a ghost town in Southern California perfectly situated to create jobs, create the most affordable housing in the country, and ultimately reduce the cost of electricity and create enough power the entire Inland Empire and is perfectly located, and could create massive income. It is located 10 minutes from an Interstate, and has rail service available.

100 Years of The Harris' San Bernardino Store building from the start-to the beginning of the end?
Переглядів 3382 місяці тому
In the heart of San Bernardino, the Harris Co. building has stood as a silent witness to a century's worth of memories. Built over 100 years ago, this grand old dame began her life as the flagship store of the Harris Company, a beloved department store founded by Philip and Herman Harris in 1905. The store wasn't just a place to shop; it was a gathering spot, a community center, and a symbol of...

How The Doors were linked to Redlands from their beginning until their end.

The 60’s group “The Doors”, and Redlands have 2 very special moments in time together. It was the site of both the first public concert they ever performed, and was a filming site of the last video they ever did-14 years after the death of Jim Morrison. . Empire Bowl was the only venue in Redlands (that I can remember) that had live rock music every weekend. I used to go listen to the Tornadoes...
Did we grow up with the best local news team of all time?
Переглядів 2126 місяців тому
A lot of growing up in the Inland Empire as I remember involved television. In the late 60’s and early 70’s there most of the LA stations had their own local newscasts. I say most because channel 9 and channel 13 had attempts at local newscasts, but there was nothing memorable about them. (Although I do remember Ted Meyers and Jack Lathum who were good, but apparently had no budget) Another imp...

Why did the Rolling Stones pick San Bernardino for their first ever USA concert? They were lied to!
Переглядів 4307 місяців тому
This is one of those urban legends many of have heard but wonder if its true. The legend is that The Rolling Stones played their very first concert in the USA at the Swing Auditorium in San Bernardino in 1964. This not a myth, it is 100% TRUE. You will hear how it happened in this video by the man who put it all together. Former K/MEN 129 DJ and program director Bill Watson recounted the whole ...

If this little 110 year old shop building on Rialto in San Bernardino could talk, it has 1 story that is almost unbelievable. . Dale Gentry was the first Ford dealer in the Inland Empire. He hired a new mechanic who had a great idea, Since the 22 HP model T engine was pathetic at best, Martin suggested to Dale adding an extra 4 cylinders. Dale loved the idea, and in 1917 the built the first 2an...

This is very cool to see that even though they were competitors, they are so complimentary to each other. Of course, the Taco Bell of today is NOTHING like it was back in the old days (for that, you'd have to go to Taco Tia), the same can be said of Del Taco too. Baker's has remained pretty true to the original recipes and is a true gem in the IE.

I graduated from Aquinas in 1972. Took a drive down E Street 2 weeks ago. Wow... the Park that used to be next to the old demolished California Hotel, is now connected to the St. B's Retirement Home. I went to St. B's High School, from 1968 to 1971, before the Sylmar Earthquake knocked down the High School. No more Crest Movie theatre either. I am enjoying your memories. Thank you.

I was born and raised in San Bernardino along the foothills and orange groves of the San Bernardino mountains. It was a great place growing up, once designated "An All American City". Unfortunately, because of past corruption the city is falling apart and crime is in every corner of the town. No one should have to grow up there under the conditions of today. You couldn't pay me enough to ever live anywhere in the Inland Impire again. I spent 3 months recently taking care of my sick mother. She still lived in the house I grew up in. Police helicopters flew over the neighborhood every evening and drug deals taking place on the corner and occational gunfire from a near by apartment complex. There aren't too many unaffected areas in Southern California of rampant crime. California has gotten so bad, It embarrasses me to say I'm from there. I moved away 30 years ago but I still have family in the area so I still visit once in a while. It was once one of the best places to live. It has been destroyed.

Never heard of Mother Lizards and what was the cross street on E St. where it was located? As for KFXM, I was at the Orange Show when they had a real tiger in a cage (a tiger was their logo), and when I walked up to it there was no chicken wire or a guard or a station rep to say, "Hey, don't get too close, kid". That fucker would rip off an arm of any one dumb enough. Thank God I wasn't. Parting shot: I have one of their old "Another Tullis and Hearne Station" signs in my garage here in Phoenix, AZ. GOD, I miss my childhood.

When i was 16 (in the 80s) I used to ride my scooter to Torrance Municipal Airport and watch all the helicopters take off and land. I will never forget meeting Commander Chuck Street. He had his Hughes 300 (schweizer 269) that he talked about in this interview. It was a small piston helicopter painted bright yellow with red Kiss FM on sides. He talked to me for quite a bit before i watched him take off, super nice guy as i remember. I think he even offered to give me a ride sometime. Anyways thanks for sharing this video on how it all came to be. 😎🤙
