We have a roman road in the North East called the Devils Causeway. I plotted it years ago as a bit research for metal detecting. Very little of it that is useable is left.
The tv series Soldier, soldier (Robson and Jerome) filmed some action in the Town Hall next to the Red Lion. Anyone remember Jack the dog, who spent his days hanging out of the top window at the Red Lion? Dave Wokingham resident.
i live in cookham where is this
the site has since been demolished...it was near to the John Lewis golf course on Terrys Lane.
Couple of schools in Anglesey were impacted by this.
You should do one on Stockton-on-Tees.

I was brought up in Wokingham and went to school there. I moved away from Wokingham in 1985 and I now lived in west dorset on the jurassic coast. I went back to Wokingham last year too see some old friends and I'd not been back for 20 years. I was thinking I'd be fine finding my way easy. Gosh it had changed so much I got lost, mainly between Wokingham and Bracknell. When I grew up we had lots of green fields and country side and this had all gone. It ruined the picture in my mind, of what I still regarded as my home town. It seemed like Wokingham was like another suburb of London. I was really happy to get home to my beautiful cottage with country and sea views. Wokingham will always have a place in my ❤ tho.
My son went to school in Dorset, so I visited the area a lot. It is a very beautiful county and I still wonder what it would be like to live there -- but where? Jurassic coast, eh? Sad to learn about the dramatic changes and development of the Wokingham/Bracknell area. Crowthorne, where I lived, has not changed too much. Still basically the same.
@@egverlander I'm in little village called chideock, that's between Bridport and Charmouth, but closer to Bridport. I'm really lucky I have no houses front or back of my cottage, just rolling hills and cliffs and beautiful sea views . At night you can here the waves crash on the beach. I do remmber Crowthorne really well and alot nicer than workingham is now I bet ?
@@christinecrockford1654 Sounds like you live in a lovely area. I was borne in Kent near Margate; so, I really enjoy the sea and cliffs, the sound of waves and sea gulls. Is your area warmish in the Winter time? Regards, Edward.
@@egverlander aww thats nice do you live in Wokingham now ? Oops no you live in the states didn't you say silly me lol
@@egverlander anyway nice to meet you and to make some new friend. I'm really lucky im very bubbly make friends easly and built huge amount of amazing frendbin dorset.
“That is anything from tropical. That is chemical” quick someone call up Lil Wayne boffin just dropped the bar of the century
I have never touched the stuff.
Before moving the USA in 1965, I lived in Crowthorne and used to cycle to Wokingham a lot, taking the "Nine Mile Road". I have great memories of taking my girlfriend to the cinema there. Are there any old pictures of Wokingham, Crowthorne and surrounding areas? Thank you for your work.
I actually currently live on Nine Mile Ride at junction with Sandhurst Road by the railway bridge at the moment.
I moved away too and after 20 years went back and ud not recognise Wokingham now. As for the cinema. I do rember going to sat morning pictures and going to old lady's sweet shop near it for a 1/4 sherbert or black Jack's lol. Nice memories .
I certainly remember Sat morning pictures. I still have a couple of ABC Minor badges from the early sixties-I am now 70. Lots of sweet shops so now have few teef LOL I lived in Waterloo Rd until 1982 then Langborough Rd David Case.
No seires landrovers there, all defenders
Defo stolen
These are probably stolen to be stripped… maybe they should be reported? First one is a Land Rover 90 with a discovery tdi engine and head removed as the tdi 200 heads are hard to find now and were someone’s pride and joy at some point! Other is the rear tub of a 1990s tdi..
I was thinking the same that's why I asked for the location but no one replied
Damn upset I missed this. Hope to see you back on this channel soon I have so many history questions
The history boffin returns!!!! Would love to see some more stuff like this. That shootout sounds intense, wonder how they got 29 people involved in high level thievery back then. Where does wokingham rank among areas you’ve lived?
Expensive but I live on the southern edge of town so more relaxed and quiet
1976 summer broke a lot of records . It was a glorious summer , remember it well 👍🏻👍🏻 the other heatwaves were really very hot spells ! None of those years had the longevity of 76 !!
Loved the video, learned a lot. Any plans for live streams on this channel anytime soon?
Maybe sometime this week as i have booked some time off work as we have 30 days paid leave per year to take so will have some more time this week to focus on both channels.
Niceee!!! You really need Promo-SM!!
I was born & raised in Bracknell. Thanks for the memories.
In the 28 years I lived in the town there has been soo many changes
1976 The heat seemed worse because Britain still had to obey with Sunday trading laws and no 24 hour shopping so everywhere you to shop was stuffy with an almost claustrophobic queue continuum sequence...
Great work. Did you learn italian?
A little but only enough to survive as a tourist
Bracknell was a great place to grow up before the mass construction started
I’m from the States and wish to live there for 1 or 2yrs. My company has a location there. I’m looking to transfer. How has it changed? It’s more expensive? More crowded? It’s less of a village like what are used to be?
Would love you to do one on mill pond, spent a lot of time there growing up :)
King George V laid the final brick of that big shopping center in town.

Great video. Some feedback - use a black pen so we can read it ) - kings ransom! Great fact. 1194 released because of a kings randsom. So interesting. - I would have liked more info on the crusades. It seems like the crusades happened in Jerusalem from your video.
Hello. It's a great video that's filled with facts. Is there a way to message you directly ?
Cool history! Thanks for making the video. I drove through Truth or Consequences, NM years ago and always wondered how and why it got its name. Now I know! 🙌
I don't remember who claimed it bit I was told he was unmarried because he was gay
That would be Pope Urban II only a few years before his death.

Where is this exactly?
Hayley Green Woods near Bracknell
@@thehistoryboffin Behind Gardeners Drive?
@@mariegriffiths At the end of WEstmorland Drive in the woods behind the tennis courts in Warfield.
@@thehistoryboffin Thanks, those woods are very mysterious, Ill take a snope.
If you want more local mystery check out the path that goes from where Harvest Ride meets long hill road behind Heathfield School. They are lots of things going on underground with vents to the surface.
Preferred this woods before all the defined paths were put in. Used to walk in there before all the houses were built and the big house and stables were still there.
Yeah i also preferred it before also, but the local council have decided to go down this path of maintaining the woodland which has led to some damage in my view especially to the amount of Bluebell flowers. There are a lot less this year which is very concerning. Also have you seen my video on Hayley Green Woods and the strange structure or remains of a structure that i accidentally found.
@@thehistoryboffin I bet the council are "maintaining" it in way that the protected plants disappear, they can then build on the area. I'm not going to say they are corrupt, mafia owned crooks as they have good lawyers.
Im in Irealand and we are the closest to the UK its been very windy this week also alot of rain and hail ;-;
Dont put all eggs in the same basket.
Honda will leave in 2021, not in 2022. Swindon voted for Brexit ... so they can now reap the Brexit dividend.
Take back control--- build the wall. Britain is just as racist as America
Yup, try to talk yourself up. Prepare to duck the hammer blow coming soon.
Is that a threat??
All of F1 will go next. The Season starts as the borders clog up with customs formalities as promised
the collapse of brexitard UK ?
Project fear, there is no Honda factory in Swindon! MSM lies!
Are you on glue?
@@shafty37 You dont know how far the MSM will go to stop Brexit. The Honda story is made up, they paid actors to pretend to be Honda workers. Leave means leave no more economic lies over job losses!
@@jamesbird6103 so you say there is no factory in Swindon, then you say the workers are actors......mate I've worked there for the last twenty years, those "actors" are my work colleagues or associate's as we are called. If you drive down the A419 towards the M4 junction 15 there's a fucking big factory.....you can't miss it, it's been there since 1985. I reiterate are you on glue?

Swindon had 12-18 inches of snow, but yet both home and away games (wildcats V bison) were both on but Bracknell/Peterborough wasn’t?
Our rink was under a lot of snow as the council did not grit down there as technically the John Nike Group still owns the road way so it is the responsibility for them to pay the gritting company to clear the snow etc. Either way the rink had a fair bit of snow that end of town.
We was promised heavy snow yesterday where I live in west wales but just got mostly rain. Preseli hills/mountains had some snow. And last night we had some light snow for a few hours but it just stuck to the cars and roofs of houses and a bit on the grass. Gone by this morning. I love the snow and I like to get heavy snow but live in the wrong place lol. Nice video 🙂👍
Well would you of thought it but the ice hockey match between bracknell bees and Peterborough phantoms been called off due to the weather. Winter weather cancels winter sport
The HistoryBoffin I wouldn’t have thought that. It’s ridiculous lol 😂

Nothing in Scotland, just ice pretty much
It has just eased up after nearly 10 solid hours of snow. Plus it could snow at any time today again.
So far I’ve got 10 cm 😱😱😱😱
We have 4-5 inches which is roughly the same. What part of the UK are you in?
