The Making of Road Games by Allan Holdsworth
Thanks for putting this together. Session musicians are truly the virtuoso class of what we hear as we go through life.
Thank you for watching my friend!
And about Equinoxe?
Kudos to Ruby Jones for this post. Watched it 10 times.
Great clip! Much appreciated. Well done/edited 🎉
C'est quoi ce travelo ? Ahaha 🤣😂 Respect à Jean-Michel Jarre !
Saw Herbie with Sky in the late seventies .A fabulous gig . Impeccable musicians ,every one of them !
Thanks Ruby for a great, very much needed and appreciated documentary. In 1968 I was a member of a Liverpool vocal band by the name of The Incrowd. We had a short recording contract on the Deram label. We recorded a number of tracks, two of which as were produced a single : Where in the World/I Can make Love To You. Although we all played instruments on our live gigs, on these recordings we were backed by a 21 piece line-up. Herbie Flowers played bass guitar and other members of Blue Mink were in the line-up.
@@tonylawrence9885 thanks for watching! Wow that’s such an incredible story
Add Love affair, everlasting love to the list of great bass riffs.
I was introduced to this one in the late 80s in my old English school during a listening classroom. Since that day I was hooked. I love this movie with all my heart and I personally consider Abbott Reeves as one of the greatest movie villains of all times.
his bass on wotw is amaizin
Thanks for this. I’ve followed Herbies Career for over 30 years. I Collected many records he played on..including some pretty obscure stuff. He was and still is a massive influence on my own bass playing as well as my whole approach and attitude towards a composition.
Another fine documentary and another unsung hero praised with all they deserve ❤
This was a fantastic watch, great that you are keeping Herbie's name out there, what a player, what a man, a bass legend 😄
@@jrchanning thank you so much for watching my friend!
Thanks Ruby - enjoyed that. Herbie has always been a musical hero of mine.
@@cliffpearson943 thanks so much for watching!
Epic journalism mateyyyyyy! Love to hear how Sky inspired Electrolyte Concerto In D Major
Oxygene - A Masterpiece! I’m one of this 50Mio, owning a ´76 vinyl. Thank a lot for your in-depth documentary 👌🏻
What’s your favourite Herbie Flowers bassline? Let me know!
Enjoyed this vid thanks Ruby! If he did the whole transformer, then I love 'Satellite of love' !
David Essex - Rock On
An absolute classic!
… also, his playing on the Bowie album, David Live, is a masterclass.
Love that version of Space Oddity on there
And what about Brain Damage (from TDSOTM) with the 1 year older song Grazie Davvero from Italian band Premiata Forniera Marconi ? I felt in trouble when I heard this PFM song for the first time. Your opinion ?
@@SkinoSylvain I need to check this out! I will and let you know 🫡
You look hot damn cute, I adore your outfits! Glasses, too.
Thank you so much!!!
Clicked on this video for JMJ, left because what I saw in the first second🤮
He may not have been well known, but his father certainly was
Beautifully presented video Ruby! 💖 This album quite literally changed the direction of my life. I first heard it on CD in the early 80s at an electronics show. It was playing through some high end, monoblock tube amplifiers through a pair of Martin Logan electrostatic speakers and I had never heard anything like it before, both musically and in terms of audio quality. Oxygene Part II is still my all-time favourite piece of electronic music and it triggered the beginning of my own journey into composing and recording electronic music that continues to this day. This year marks 40 years since I began with an Akai 4000DS MK2 open reel deck, a Studiomaster four track cassette machine and a Roland Juno 6 synthesizer. I recently purchased an original vinyl pressing of Oxygene that has yet to be played. It is surreal holding this record in my hands! I have a decent turntable / stylus / preamp setup that I'm tweaking for best playback at the moment and it will be this system that I first play my unplayed record on. It will be an emotional moment that will probably put tears of joy in my eyes!! ✨️🌟💖🎵💖🌟✨️
The fuchsia is in safe hands.
Q1:Ruby, by any chance, have you been heavily influenced by Walter/ Wendy Carlos? Anyway, fascinating viewing. (Q2: how does YT know i have this out of the music library right now?)
Excellent,thanks for this video! ❤
Very well done Ruby. Absolutely beautiful piece. And I totally dig the dynamics of your playing that you bring to it. 😊
Always loved the songs on Road Games but the production really let's it down. Thankfully Live in Japan 1984 exists, one of the finest live albums ever released, it features *the* definitive takes of many I.O.U. songs. The opener Tokyo Dream especially is a killer, such a beatifully melancholic melody and you can hear the exitement and sheer pleasure of playing in front of a Japanese crowd in Allan's soloing. Wackerman and Johnson are the perfect accompaniment to Holdsworth, even Paul Williams is on top form, thoroughly fantastic stuff!
The Rooftop Concert! 😉
@@FLH3official hopefully Peter Jackson will remaster it for us one day 😜
@@rubyjones01 😁You just need a zealous constable with you on the roof 😁😁 (BTW could be fun for a v2 of this piece)
@ definitely! you can buy the album on physical CD and digital btw if you want to hear more 😎 theexoticicesproject.bandcamp.com/album/anthems-for-outcasts
Thanks for the video. 2:55 the GRM wasn't acualy a real "school" it was, somehow, the equivalent of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop . 9:45 No need of sellotape to play 2 patern styles on a Minipop, just push the 2 buttons. Ma, se no e vero e bene trovato. 😁 (well, don't get me wrong, I'm a genuine Early Jarre fan, I heard the original album in the time it was released, it was just technical precisions)
Dude WTF is your malfunction 🤣🤣🤣🤣 You look like a mental illness patient on drugs 🤣🤣
I'm on the fence with Vanhalen's influence of Holdsworth. On one hand, he gave the much needed exposure of Allan's brilliance but he also thought he should be able to guide his musical direction which I find arrogant. I've always respected Eddie's amazing skill but have been thoroughly bored by the band's style and skill level of the other band members. Holdsworth, on the other hand insisted on surrounding himself with brilliance, making his music more complete, certainly more interesting. Ted 'the producer' can pound sand.
The high level effort you put into the making of this 'mini doc'? is evident and outstanding. Thank you for your work. Interesting that I'm just now finding it. I saw him once many years ago in Kansas City, Missouri in a very small venue(maybe 50 people)Chad Wackerman was his drummer.
@@empoweryou1 thank you my friend!
thank you!
Catchy and coooookie
Is it just me or did Jarre take a lot from Mike Oldfields first albums? A lot did and do....
tubular bells was also played in full on john peel (or was it just one side?)
Great stuff! I doubt that that he wrote Steve’s main guitar solo with tapping - that might have been a Banks inspiration/transcription from a keyboard lead like Hogweed and Salmacis. Steve has said he started tapping to be able to copy keyboard lines.
I can't take seriously a crossdresser. Dude you are pathetic
This was very good, thank you. I love Allan but I think he had a tendency for self sabotage. It's well known that he was rarely satisfied with his playing and he would shrug off praise and seemed embarrassed by it. Who knows? I sure don't. PS. I still have my Lab series L5. Great amps.
Lovely!
Can't wait to see your Christmas special Ruby ace ace ace 😊
When CDs came out first I wanted it own one (didn’t even have the player and I was in my teens) so I picked the Oxygene which I proudly displayed in my room :)
great vid, elequently spoken
Total banger! 💟 Stellar production 💫
Thank you for this exelent tour of one of my favorite bands. I bought sky 1, 2, and 3 when they came out. I'm a guitarist and John Williams had a major influence on my playing style. The band had a sound and feeling to them that still influence me in my musical well beeing.
I think is a great cover.... though the organ adds a quite dramatic dimension, I would low it in the mix, it's too much over the voice, maybe a little echo on the voice would also help to an already great vocal performance... greetings!
Love JMJ music, growing up also with Vangelis Still listening and enjoying all earlier albums 😍
Great video and I learned so much about AH and IOU. I discovered his music while listening to early Bruford records and the first AH LP I picked up was Metal Fatigue. After that I was hooked.
Don't Forget Phil's mate from Flamming Youth, Ronnie Caryl. Apparently, he also played live with the band. I assume it was a 12-string Acoustic that Mick did not own as I have never seen Ant play using an electric 12-string. Some great research here thank you.
