    Your control plate came out perfect. Just weighed my unmodified 2021 CV50s (Indonesia) and it weighed in at 7 lb 6 oz on the postal scale.

    I got one not long ago. My fourth classic vibe was with the intention of getting a player or American performer if I liked a telecaster. This squire surprised me. The first squire that I wasn't looking for new pickups as soon as I got it. Those brass saddles helped the tone a lot. I think that may be all I need. Thanks for the video.

    Instantly recognisable as Stratocaster sounds from both guitars, but the 91 has a brighter tone with more depth to my ears. I wonder what the difference would be between a 69 and a 91? Maybe nostalgia can affect the judgment 😊!

    When I got mine the fret ends were sticking out a little so I had to take a fine file to dress the fret ends. It's not hard, but if you don't feel confident take it to a repair person and have them do it.

    I just got my Squire Classic Vibe Tele from Sweetwater a month ago and it was great out of the box. their 55 point inspection is something I don't think anyone else offers. You mentioned the string tree. I got a tree from Music City Bridge that holds down the E, B, and G strings.

    I just put the same saddles on my cv thinline. I was also able to intonate perfectly but I noticed that they don’t line up perfectly straight. Middle one was fine but the other two weren’t flush with middle one. I expect the saddles are just slightly wider than the stock cv ones. Did you have the same issue?

    I bought a Chinese made Squier CV Telecaster in Butterscotch Blonde off a friend of mine back in 2016. I bought it as a back-up guitar as I already owned a Strat and a Les Paul and kept it mostly in open G for those Keith Richards moments. However, I started to follow Ask Zac and listen to more Tele players and it's become a firm favourite. It came with brass saddles and well polished frets, so I haven't modified it from stock. I just love the simplicity of it and the stock alnico pickups make a great sound.

    I don't know why this came up in the feed now but how are the fret edges and fret level? My paranormal had beveled and smooth fret ends and I don't think had any buzzing. I think it has the same pickups as the cv telecaster.

      Fret level is great on mine. They were definitely gritty. As for the fret ends they are covered by the thick poly coating so they are smooth on mine.

Also later on I put a fender v shaped jumbo fret neck. I own a few strat. By far I reach for this one first. Next one I’ll buy the tele.

    I really wanted a belly carve and to lighten the body, the Affinity is the only model that has the belly carve and the body is also much thinner. Cut a new hole in between the two existing holes with a hand drill then mount a toggle switch in the third hole you don't need. Everyone will ask what the toggle switch is for (?)

  • @CaptainRon1913

    Mine wasn't a "truly pull out of the box and play guitar". The "plastic" non-bone nut was cut way too low. Bought a TusqXL to replace it. Had to reset, level, file several frets, and polish them. Replaced the saddles with gotoh compensated. The crappy thin wiring was replaced with proper cloth pushback wiring. Replaced the pots with CTS, the switch with Grigsby, Fender caps, Allen Bradley NOS resistor. The control plate had to be drilled out to slightly larger size, as well as the jack plate. (I have a drill press). New knobs to fit the larger CTS pot shafts. The grounding was poor, so replaced the bridge plate with a Fender vintage. I have a 50's Custom Deluxe tweed amp (5e3 circuit), and found these stock pickups to be ho-hum. Installing a set of Fender pure vintage 64 tele pickups. Will copper shield the pickguard, and ground everything properly. So far, I have $721 dollars into this tele, and except for the weight (mine weighs 9.1 lbs), really think this stands toe to toe with Fender's $1700 dollar tele's. I plan on routing out a sizeable cavity on the back and installing pickguard material for a cover, to reduce the weight a pound or so. There's a guy on youtube who stripped all the poly coating off his Classic Vibe tele. The scraped off finish weighed in at 8oz. Half a pound!

      All good upgrades!! The weight varies wildly on these guitars also.

  • @codiaq
    @codiaq 7 місяців тому

    I bought this guitar and it was so heavy. I decided to do a drastic modification as I was sure to keep the guitar. I took my routing machine and routed away any wood which is invisible under the bridge plate and under the pickguard. Finally, I painted the cavity with a shielding graphite varnish. After that I ordered an ashtray bridge plate with 6 steel barrels and the same Position of mounting screws and I am satisfied with it. The wood routing resulted in a weight loss of about 600 g. The guitar was 3,9 kg, now it is 3,3 kg.

    • @ranman58635
      @ranman58635 6 місяців тому

      The weight of pine is heavy. Mine is about 10 pounds. One cannot cit enough wood out to be satisfied. Most of my guitar's weight is like that. Definitely the heaviest I've had. I don't stand while playing so it doesn't matter to me.

    The biggest problem with this thing by far is the weight, it's way too heavy, playing it sitting down is fine but as soon as you wear it on a strap you can immediately feel all the weight on your shoulder, maybe you can wear it on your waist like Steve Albini and that might help

    • @Dirtbiketrike72

    My 2010 CV50 yellow pinecaster weighs 7 pounds and 8 ounces. It is a very nice Tele that I purchased in order to get a great sounding telecaster after I purchased a white Fender Stahdard telecaster 2010 +/- model and found that the stock Fender pickups were not noise cancelling in the middle switch position. So I purchased the Squire cv50 pinecaster and was rewarded with great stock Tele sound to my instant liking. I guess I lucked out getting a light 1. I appreciate the lighter guitars these days. Your video presentation is very excellent. You obviously actually own and like the guitar. You are not a casual reviewer getting ready to send it back. So many reviewers bad mouth Squires. Squires are very decent guitars. You are personable and you focus upon elements of guitar knowledge that the actual experienced player can relate to and learn something. I appreciate Squires. I had once fallen upon hard times and no longer had my Fender jazz bass, Japan made. I went to guitar center and purchased a very nice red metallic Squire Affinity Jazz Bass. And I purchased a set of Fender noiseless jazz bass pickups. I had a pro tech bass player install the Fender noiseless pickups and treble bleed circuit. I put on a beautiful nickel jazz bass bridge, replacing the cheap stamped metal stock Squire bridge. I put on Grover bass tuners. This is my best sounding bass guitar today.

    • @Dirtbiketrike72
      @Dirtbiketrike72 9 місяців тому

      Thanks for the kind words. Yes I love this squire. I played it for a good while and really thought hard about what it actually needed rather than just change everything and turn it into an expensive upgrade. I made this video with the mindset of someone on a budget. So the upgrades I made were IMHO the best bang for the buck. And yes I absolutely appreciate light guitars as well. My lower back thanks Me. 😆

      Already has a bone nut. Tuners are suspect on both of mine. Electronics are OK...no need to change. Disconnect neck pup from tone pot to rid any muddiness and improve clarity/output (I do this to all my Teles)...drop in either Lollars or Fralins (perhaps Bootstraps, got a set coming my way to test out at $50)...brass saddles...yes, my first CV50 had a super sticky neck...the second (from Andertons) had less poly, less sticky, and it was very hard to sand down. The Harley Benton TE-52 I got this week has an amazing neck and body, and the Roswell pups are a bit better than the CV50's pups. It's getting Bootstrap Palo Duros.
