Weekend In My Life - Hiking and Sewing Chat
Welcome to my channel. I hope you all will enjoy something a little different. I stepped out of my comfort zone to share a glimpse into my weekend. I share more life, sewing and even crochet.
I was able to go on a hike on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was a gorgeous day, and I hope you enjoy the drive and photos from the hike. It was another day well spent with my parents. I cherish every day we get to do something fun together.
On the day of my hike, I wear my latest make. It is The Breton Top, a pattern that was included free with Simply Sewing magazine a few years ago. I used a green wool jersey I purchased from Sewing Studio Oregon.
Here's a link:
www.sewingstudio.com/shop/Fabric/p/Wool-Jersey--Evergreen-x80211695.htm
I completed another make this weekend. I sewed a pair of TATB Stella joggers out of some gifted cotton jersey. The Stella joggers are featured in the TATB "Stretch" book.
I talk about the Friday Pattern Company Ilford jacket. I have it cut out in a beautiful purple denim. My husband purchased it from Cali Fabrics over a year ago. I will link the fabric store below here:
califabrics.com/
On day 2, I wear an Atelier Jupe Tilde Shirt Dress to church and later change into a Love Notions Class Tee. The shirt dress is made out of a chambray fabric I purchased from Cali Fabrics. The t-shirt is made out of an Art Gallery cotton spandex knit fabric. I do not recall where I purchased that fabric.
I continue to work on the quilt for my son. I am getting closer and closer to the finish line. And, I am working on a crochet blanket for myself.
Thank you for coming along with me in the "Weekend In My Life". I appreciate your feedback on the questions I ask. Thank you for taking the time to comment. I thank all my subscribers, new and old alike. It means a lot to me that you watch my channel.
Until next time,
Cynthia

Think Pink Sewscription Box 24 Unboxing Video
Thank you so much for taking us along on your hike - the views are so beautiful!! Love the quilt and the crochet blanket. I also love purple! Xx 💞
Thank you. I’m working on the quilt again today. I’m getting closer. Yay!
How lovely that you and your parents get to enjoy God's creation in that way. I can't wait to see your son's quilt when it is finished. I can see why you want to have some easy projects to do while you are finishing the quilting. I'm torn between using the mauve thread and using the brown/tan with brown buttons. I think I would choose the buttons next and then choose the thread accordingly. I think a wool knit top would be invaluable for living in the mountains. We have the opposite problem in our house as my husband prefers the house to be cooler than I do so I am always bundling up. Your crocheted throw is just gorgeous! I have finished a Rhapsody top and am almost finished New Look 6601. Sewing goes so much faster for me when I'm sewing repeat patterns and don't have to fit. We did find a wonderful husband & wife team of real estate agents, but didn't find any homes that would work. My husband is very cautious about homes with water issues, but maybe something will come available in the coming months, It's just so nice to have a real estate agent who will be a good match for us. I think I am going to tackle a shirt for my son next. I'm nervous about fit, but I want to sew one anyway. I think I'm going to compare my pattern to a RTW size for comparison. My main issue is going to be figuring out how to make it tall as he's 6"3 and I don't know where to add height. I am sure there is a video for that somewhere. I have a Burda pattern but saw where the Thread Theory Fairfield is on sale. Maybe that would be a better option for me because there's likely more info on fit. I hope you have a lovely week.
It's great that you are going to sew for your son. I have only made pants for my son before. He too is tall, and I always add length to his pants. I have McCalls M6044, a button up shirt for men, cut out but haven't sewn it yet. It's a WIP that I started last year. Anyway, it has shorten and lengthen lines so I lengthened it too. I based the size cut out by what size shirt he purchases in RTW. I think I also got him to take his chest measurement and measured his arm length. I'm glad you have finished some tops for yourself. I feel fortunate to live close enough to my parents that we can enjoy the outdoors together. I was surprised that the trail we hiked had very little damage on it. I know some of the trails on the Blue Ridge Parkway have caution signs on them. The views Saturday was stunning with blue skies and lots of sunshine. This weekend is going to be the opposite. It's going to be cold, and we may even see a snow flurry. I want snow, but I'm sure some of the people that were more affected by Hurricane Helene is not ready for cold weather or snow yet. I continue to pray that you and your husband will find the perfect house. Take care and have a wonderful week.
Thank you for the beautiful sights and scenery on your drive and on the hike. I love every time you post these beautiful areas. I would watch Cynthia's Hiking Channel!! Your son's quilt looks so good! I would wait and get thread for the Ilford. That's just me. I always want as perfect a match as I can find and I hate to run out!! Have a great week and thank you for posting. :)
Thank you for the lovely comment. I’m glad that the quilt be completed soon. Thank you for the input about thread. I typically try to match my thread as closely as possible. I just don’t know when I will be near a Joann’s. 😕
I loved the hiking footage! Your shirtdress is gorgeous, and im looking forward to seeing your jacket! The thread suggestion noted above sounds good to me; I like a finished spool, too!
I’m glad you enjoyed it. I believe that denim will make a great jacket too. 😊
We are so blessed to live where we do! Your son will love his quilt, and that crochet blanket looks so cozy! 💗
Yes! Thank you so much. 😊
Hi Cynthia! Thank you for sharing those beautiful mountains with us-it looks like you had a nice time! I’m constantly changing because of the temperature in my house(and my age 😂) I loved your array of outfits for Sunday! Have a great week! ❤❤❤-Mary
Thank you, Mary. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Hi Cynthia, thank you for taking us along through the mountains; that was a lot of fun! 🥰 You can do this anytime! Your shirtdress is beautiful! It looks wonderful to wear 😊 I haven't yet worked with wool jersey, but I would looove to make a wool jersey dress! Re: thread matching.... what I do is set aside the best one for the visible stitching, and use all the rest for the bobbin and regular seams. That does involve switching out the needle thread occasionally, but I Love emptying a spool!! (a rah rah kinda happens *blush) Yours is one area of the country that my folks didn't take us camping in the summers when we were growing up, and there's never been any family - present or past. I think I mentioned the book A Walk in the Woods that I read earlier this year, and it some of the place names you mention around the parkway might be near the Appalachian Trail? I need to look up the other one you've mentioned 😉 Happy sewing and hiking. 😘
Thank you for the tip about the threads. I hadn’t considered that. It’s a possibility. I’m glad you enjoyed the hike. Definitely give wool jersey a try! It’s easy to sew. 😊
Snow coming in 4 hours...
Oh, I love snow. ❄️
Really enjoyed this video. Thank you. I would like a husband that made the house too hot! 🙃
LOL. He freezes, and I’m either comfortable or too hot. I’m glad you enjoyed this video.
Thank you so much for sharing the Blue Ridge footage to us. I'm so glad pieces of it have reopened again. What a wonderful crochet blanket, the colours are beautiful xx
Thank you so much, Carole. 😊
What a beautiful area you live in! I love your shirt dress!
Thank you. ☺️
Beautiful countryside, Cynthia and I love your crochet blanket 🤩
Thank you. The crochet blanket is going to feel good this winter.
Thanks for the review Cynthia! I love that blouse you're wearing!
Thank you ☺️
The dress is beautiful and looks lovely on you! The fit looks very nice and I like the way the fabric flows. I would definitely make it again but use a different waistband application. I think the back waist is elasticized in all the views and I would probably use the flat waistband. I think it will be easier the next time you make it because you’ve already made it once and you know how it fits and you can make the construction according to your sewing expertise . Thanks for your excellent evaluation and suggestions for making this beautiful dress.
Thank you. Another person suggested using the version with the flat waistband. I believe I will try that next time. 😊
Thanks for the intro. Will take a look tomorrow when more awake. One has to be so skinny to wear a dress. I'm 145.lbs and 5'7" and think I'd have to drop 20 lbs to wear a dress. I've not worn a dress or skirt in over 20 years. I wear pants, only pants. And they have to have a close made to measure look. I like bateau neck tops with 3/4 sleeves. And everything has to have an exact fit in great fabric. I expect my clothes to last for 10 years at minimum and 30 years is better. And that's the other concern, fabric quality is so inferior to the choices we had 10-15 years ago.
? I don’t know how to respond. I think you may be too critical of yourself.
I think the dress is beautiful on you. I don't envy you having to make and pull the elastic through that waistband though. Would it be possible to use narrower elastic in the lower channel or in all the channels really? I've made waistbands like that before and they don't leave enough ease so that it requires total precision sewing to get all the channels large enough to work; that's what made me think a narrower elastic might help. Maybe it would be better to narrow the entire waistband (requiring fewer channels for elastic) and add that length you removed from the waistband to the bodice or skirt depending on where you want the elastic to be positioned. I think you got the right combination of pattern and fabric, it's just a shame that you had so much difficulty with the elastic. You get such a great fit with the Atelier Jupe patterns; I hope this doesn't discourage you from continuing to use them. For some good news, our leak has been fixed and the contractor is too busy to work on repairs now. They haven't given us any time frame. I am hoping and praying that God sends us a wonderful realtor in the meantime and we can find something to buy. We have not been blessed with good realtors since we moved to North Carolina. Our first one was totally new and made every mistake in the book with us. We ended up buying land, but then with all my spinal surgeries didn't end up building and sold the land when we moved. The last one we tried to use thought we were going to buy her uncle's house and when we didn't (major water issues) she lost interest in us. We're looking again and have found a few potential homes!! Hopefully we can find an agent and start looking next week. Thank you Cynthia for your prayers. God answered them generously! My tie front top wasn't what I'd envisioned. The ties overpowered the top and just looked off. My husband suggested removing them and I covered some buttons and made loops. It's nice, but I don't think it's going to be a favorite. I'm sewing foldable shopping bags now. Treadling is easier when I sew straight seams so this seemed like the perfect project. I am keeping all of you in my prayers. A lady at Home Depot was helping us get a tool my husband wanted shared with us that she had just come back from working with Samaritan's Purse. She and a group from her church were mudding out homes! It felt like a confirmation from the Lord to keep giving there. It gave me such peace, Even though I know the situation is dire for so many it made me see God is in control. That's sometimes hard to see when you're in the midst of it, but He is more than able to provide through His supernatural means. Please take care of yourself.
Hi Nadine. I'm so glad you got the leak stopped, but I'm sorry you are having to wait for the repairs. Hopefully, they will give you a time frame soon and get it done in the near future. Also, what a challenge to house hunt. I know housing costs in our area are expensive. If a house is affordable, then it is a fixer upper. I hope you can find the perfect house soon. Good luck on the house hunt. I'm happy to hear you are enjoying sewing on the treadle machine. My mom said her grandmother had one, but her parents sold it years ago. And, my dad told me his mother had one when he was a child. He can remember helping sew quilt squares together and he sewed through his finger. We had a laugh talking about that. Another nice thing about a treadle machine is that it doesn't require electricity. I'm sure the more you sew on it the better you'll get with that. That's wonderful. I'm currently quilting my son's quilt. I want to get it completed this month so I can gift it to him. I have also cut out a Friday Pattern Co Ilford jacket. I hope you have a great week.
@@MountainAccentsSewing The Ilford jacket is so popular right now. I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it. Good luck finishing your son’s quilt. I imagine he is going to be so happy to have it especially with the cold weather arriving, although it was really warm here today. Oddly enough I think fixing up the treadle is what is motivating my husband to look at houses in spite of the seller’s market right now. He had to do all the sanding, cutting and painting for the treadle base and top in our yard. I think he realizes that having a garage or basement will make projects like that a lot more fun. He’s always found those types of project rewarding, so I think having projects to do will be good for both of us, so Lord willing, a fixer upper will be in our future.
Having seen this dress on you at Frocktails I can say it was absolutely lovely on you.
Awww, that’s sweet of you to say. Thank you so much. 😊
I haven’t made this dress yet, but I do want to try it out with the flat front. I fell in love with Atelia Jupe patterns when I made their Zoey blouse pattern last Spring. It became my favorite blouse pattern. The sleeves are amazing! It was frustrating at first getting my head around working in centimeters, but once I did, it went much more smoothly. I didn’t convert to inches, just took measurements in cm and marked seam lines on my machine with washi tape. It was well worth the extra effort. Your Alana dress looks beautiful on you, Cynthia! If you make it again, will you consider the flat front waistband? I find that my bloating is less noticeable when I don’t use elastic in the front. You might like it, too. Happy sewing! 😘
That’s a good idea, Lynn. I believe I will try that. I’m glad to hear your feedback about the Zoey too. I have that pattern but haven’t sewn it yet.
Hi Cynthia. The Alana Dress is so beautiful…. You always look amazing. I appreciate the details of the pattern as I’ve never used one of the AJ patterns. ❤Diann
Thanks, Diann. ☺️
I thought you looked lovely in your dress. The color and fit were flattering.
Thank you so much. 😊
You did a beautiful job with that blouse Cynthia...especially a Style Arc pattern...something I may never be ready for. Looks so professional and pretty on you. xx Karen
Awww, thank you so much.😊
You are so insightful. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I love the pink paisley!
Thank you ☺️
You’re such a thoughtful person, Cynthia. I have seen many blessings come from trauma and tragedy, especially through the hurricane. As tough as things may be sometimes, people respond and come through for their communities and others, too. I listened to a podcast yesterday that emphasized ‘God, what lessons should I learn from this?’ rather than asking Why. Your Donny shirt is beautiful in the Atelia Jupe fabric. 😘
Thank you, Lynn. That sounds like a good podcast. It’s certainly been sad, but I have hope. And, I have witnessed good. 😊 🙏❤️
Very insightful blog Cynthia. It’s great that communities have come together in their shared experiences to rally together .
I agree. Thank you for watching. ☺️
Hi Cynthia, it was so lovely to spend time with you, your Donnie shirt came up so nice! I love the fabric you got for your Applica sews pattern. I am so glad you were able to meet with all your sewing friends! Everyone you mentioned are just so lovely. I so agree with you, it ia awesome how community grew from the sadness.
Hi Katinka. Thank you for watching. I’m very thankful for sewing friends. And, I do hope the community continues to grow as we heal in the mountains.
Hi Cynthia! Great to see you! Izzy is a great person to get quilting advice and suggestions from. I'm so glad you enjoyed Frocktails.
Thank you, Zelda. Yes, I am impressed with Izzy's quilting skills. She is so talented. We all had a wonderful time at Frocktails. Have a great weekend!
Let me know if you’ll be going to Frocktails again. I’d love to come down and meet all of you.
Sounds like a good plan! 😀
Your Donny is so pretty
Thank you ☺️
Hi Cynthia. It’s SO good to see you. The Donny shirt is beautiful. I don’t have the pattern but, I need to purchase it. The paisley fabric is so lovely. The Phoebe dress will be perfect. Thank you so much to you and your family! I can’t tell you how much the support has helped. I am so grateful. This disaster has had many blessings sprinkled in… the kindness of friends and strangers have been one of the biggest. I agree that we were created to be in fellowship with one another as with God. Love and hugs! Diann ❤
It is nice to look for the blessings sprinkled into our lives daily. I have been blessed by my sewing friends. I'm glad my family has been in a position to help. The Donny shirt is a great pattern to have. I can't recall if I mentioned that it is a great stash buster. I made it out of a 1.2 meter remnant. It's difficult to get most shirts out of that small amount, but I can with this pattern. I hope you find time and energy to sew again soon. I haven't done much, but I am going to try to do more. I find it good for the mind and soul.
So fun, Cynthia! Missed you! 💗
We missed you too. Maybe next year.
Hi Cynthia! I'm so glad we got to meet you at Frocktails! I love that fabric you bought from Beyond the Pink Door. It's absolutely beautiful! I agree with you, and my husband and I always say, people are naturally social. That's the main reason I quit my work from home job and took a part time office job. I needed to interact with people. Plus it gives me a reason to sew clothes to wear to the office! Happy sewing!!
Hi Carol. It was very nice to meet you. I hope you are feeling better too. ❤️😊
Lovely vlog Cynthia and beautiful sentiments 🥰
Thank you ☺️
I’m so glad you were able to go and meet so many other people who love sewing. I love your dress; that color looks so nice on you. I’m looking forward to hearing all the details. Your Donny shirt is lovely as well. I just love wearing viscose/rayon, and I’m assuming the Atelier Jupe fabric must feel like you’re wearing silk. I am so happy you felt like sewing, and that Donny shirt is such a success! I never got back about donating, but my husband had already given to Samaritan’s Purse. We’ll still do something in Avery but at the moment we are dealing with issues. We finally finished the treadle (!!!) and moved my Grandmother’s chiffonier to another room to make room for the treadle. The chiffonier has been there over 8 years and we were shocked to find some mold on the baseboard and the wood flooring under the baseboard is compromised. That wall backs up to both bathrooms so we probably have a leak in the wall. Beside the chiffonier was a shelving unit filled with sewing notions, patterns, threads, etc. All that has had to be relocated so the wall can be removed to fix it. The plumber comes tomorrow so we’ll know more then. The great news is that I can actually treadle and love, love, love sewing on it. It is a bit of a learning curve but so much fun. My tie front shirt is almost complete. Hopefully, the treadle will be moved to the living room and l can just sew in there until repairs are completed. It’s pretty quiet unless I treadle really fast. I’ve been praying for every one of you who’ve been affected. I’ve seen enough to know that building back is going to take a long, long time and prayers and resources will be needed. I just feel so grateful that everyone I know is safe. One of our friends was without power for 13 days, but she was able to stay with a relative. I know many people weren’t so blessed, so I will keep praying. I suspect going to Frocktails was such a good idea for you because when you are keeping yourself centered and upbeat, you will be a blessing to those around you. Please take care of yourself Cynthia and know that others are keeping you in our prayers.
Nadine, I'm so glad you have the treadle restored and love sewing on it. That is wonderful. I do hope you can move it to your living room for a while. It's terrible that you found the mold damage, but it's good you found it when you did. Hopefully, you all will find the leak and get all the restoration done quickly. Donating to Samaritan's Purse is a great option. From my understanding, they were some of the first boots on the ground in Boone. I watched several videos of the Samaritan's Purse team working in the neighborhoods and helping people. It's a wonderful organization. It will take many months for a lot of areas to be restored or remade. I know some areas, the landscape is forever changed and can not be restored to what it once was. But, I hope they will be able to make things better for all the people. I felt better about going and doing what little bit I could. Thank you for your continued prayers, and I will pray for you and your family.
@@MountainAccentsSewing I’m so sorry Cynthia. I didn’t mean for you to worry about us. I just wanted you to understand why I wasn’t going to be sewing. We are renting, so this will only be an inconvenience for us. We just felt terrible that we hadn’t moved the furniture and didn’t realize there was a problem. The plumber did confirm that it was a leak in the wall causing the issues, there will have to be a good bit of repair work done. Samaritan’s Purse is a great organization, and they are doing amazing work. It’s just nice to be able to do more specific things. When Katrina hit, our church sent two different groups down Gulfport to help, and my son and I were able to go both times. It was very rewarding to be able to personally interact with those in need. Giving money isn’t the same. And now that I’m getting older, I’m realizing that my desire to do something specific is probably just showing me my lack of faith in my prayers for His provisions. It’s easy to feel like your prayers are being answered when you are also able to do something and can see the change, but it’s just blind trust when you can’t do something yourself. I feel terrible that I bothered you or Diann at all. For some reason, Helene has felt very personal to me even though I haven’t been affected. I’ve been grateful for all the people God has protected, but it hurts seeing all the pain and hardship that have resulted. It’s especially hard knowing it didn’t have to be this hard. On our first trip to mud out in Gulfport we saw a few FEMA trailers, but on our second trip to rebuild, they were everywhere! I remember thinking how nice it was that people could stay on their own property which gave them the chance to help with and oversee their rebuild. That was how we got to know the older lady who owned the home we worked on during our second trip. I just thought that the people of North Carolina and Tennessee would have that same opportunity as the people in Gulfport. Knowing that they won’t hurts a lot. I have to trust that God is using all this hardship and suffering for good in some way. It does do my heart good to know how many people care about all of you in the affected regions. I can only imagine all the prayers being lifted up for all of you!!!
@nadinewoods6971 There’s no need to apologize. I care about my viewers too. I do understand the desire to work in person. I haven’t been able to do that myself because of working. I did help deliver supplies one time. Thank you so much for your prayers and kindness. ❤️
So glad that you got there and enjoyed yourself. Thank you for sharing . Looking forward to seeing your pattern review. The dress looks fab on you

It is sad. I am happy to see people working together to help others after this tragedy. Thank you for your prayers for western North Carolina.

I’m glad we went and had a good time. 😊
Hi Cynthia! It was sooo lovely meeting you at Charlotte Frocktails! We are so happy you had a great time. Sewing friends are THE best! 😘
I agree. Sewing friends are the best. ❤️
Cynthia it was so nice to be able to share time with you at Frocktails. I have ordered the Blaire top pattern from Style Arc. I never would have picked up on how that is made if you hadn’t worn it to brunch. You sew beautifully!!!
Thank you, Kim. It’s a pretty easy sew. Since you have been sewing for a long time, you should have no problem sewing a Style Arc pattern. I enjoyed spending time with you at Frocktails and at brunch. 😊
It was an amazing experience 💕
Definitely! 😊
Loved hearing about the event. Looks like a lot of fun. Can’t wait to hear all about your dress.
