The great thing about these cars was that they ‘looked’ sufficiently like actual cars that you saw on the road that you could be fooled into believing they had some similarities to the road cars……which of course, they didn’t! 🤣 It really fostered ‘brand loyalty and support’ amongst fans.
This is when touring cars supported the F1 race . Basically it was absolute mayhem shoving people off the track and totally getting stuck in for the win . It' was all really wonderful really 😊😊
*Keith Odor was such a nice guy. I wrote to him (at Janspeed) when I was looking for help to get started in racing and he took time out to send me a really encouraging letter back, along with lots of Janspeed stickers. I always loved the E36 BMW 318is saloon though and there's still one sat on my driveway today!*
lol, the Securicor car. It sounds like the type of generic name The Simpsons would have made up for a soulless corporation during the ‘90s when they were still great.
Hard to believe all of them are out of the btcc now, Plato been the last one to call time in after 2022 season, after Matt Neal calling time back in 2020. Shame the btcc is a shadow form of its self now, compared to these days.
I think the next season they binned off the 4x4 system and went either front wheel or rear wheel. but again it sounds like its the same war, with Rear wheel drive, " rear wheel has an advantage" laugh was a front wheel drive that wont champion ship the most and it was mainly a Honda. But the Rear wheel drive only got jumped on because to won the champion ship a couple of times in a row, and a certain driver kept complaining about it, laugh was he would later race in a rear wheel drive!
@@procta2343 yeah I can just remember him consistently complaining when he was driving I think it was the Chevrolet if I remember rightly always moaning about the turbos or something every race
@@Gavin-my6jb yeah that was when the turbo was introduced, Toca said that they will balance the NA and Turbo. Which was a failure. Honda had installed the turbo setup , the Chevrolet team stayed with the NA setup, that team also had identical cars in the wtcc at the time, which they handed cars down, to the btcc, after a season. The WTCC regs also switched to 1.6 Turbo, so the Chevrolet team were not going to run two separate programs with different engines sadly. So honda ran away with the title, only airways with the ford focus was close enough to try and throw honda. I did feel for plato that year, as he was right, and toca was wrong. It was a stressful season that one for him, and rightly so. WTCC stated you wont be at the front of the grid, if you stay with the NA, as they were not going to faff on with balancing like the btcc did. He did come back with MG when the regs changed again in the btcc. So the match was equalized again. BMW got into the mix later on which broke honda run. He still never did win the champion ship at all, He was very close with the VW, which was his last proper go, and maybe his last successful season, things just went down hill from there.
Its not the BTCC, local councils have a noise limit for their areas - its a lot more restrictive than 110db these days. Snetterton and Silverstone was probably not as restrictive as both tracks are in the middle of nowhere.
Take heed current BTCC. Current era is more like the 80s. In 91 it went simple and it worked massively. Plan for this again and keep the cars simple. Manufacturers will follow.
The E30 was the last good-looking BMW made.
R.I.P David Leslie, Will Hoy, Keith O'dor and Murray Walker.

Que decepción para Robb Gravett , cuando Stig perdió una victoria casi segura
Scrutineer gravetts cosworth
Let's all just get one thing straight here ford sierra rs500 won definitely not mike smith
These were the best looking cars. All of them are memorable and bring back memories of gaming!👍

Murray Walker. RIP
2:23 Nettan Lindgren was #90 in 1990, #99 was Jeff Allam.

Would love to know what Frank Sytner had to say to his team mate Luby after the last corner….
The best of times
Yeah some legends who are no longer with us RIP 😢
Always loved those types of M3. I would have one today
Is that a Renault 19 charade turbo menus in
They didn't call him cleland the cavalier killer for nothing
Mike Smith can't drive
Can’t fault his enthusiasm. He wasnt much better in a chopper
Interesting setup for Leslie - it looks like he's changing gears with the indicators or windscreen wiper controls!
Did the BMW's run the S14 from the E30 M3?
When did BTCC stop doing driver swaps?
Murray Walker - "it's a good thing Will's strapped in” 😂

that downshift in Leslie's car must have been very incovenient
Broken bearing in the steering rack…….. that old chestnut 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Classic Murray-ism: “The car upside down is a Toyota.”
This is the era when Touring Car racing was at its ultimate best and had much better cars on the racetracks. Bring back those days.
Good ole Murray. Those Super Tourers were the golden years of BTCC
100% 😀

Best touring cars ever
Fastest circuit in United Kingdom
You drive you're car up to the starting grid, and there's a man waiting with a wheel wrench...
apesar dessas corridas serem antigas' mas são muito boa!
They put 90kgs of balast on the Audis to stop them winning. 40kgs was too much.

Kelvin Burt should have had a much more successful senior career. Never really got the chance in F1. He was such a talent.
Great job, do you have round 8 please?
2030. - young child : Dad, what`s that thing the driver is moving with his right hand? Dad: it`s called a Gear lever son.

Im here for Murray walker’s commentary
British touring cars at their best 👍👍👍
Cav gsi on those wheels❤
Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit.
That cavalier certainly liked to lift its inside wheels!
Mike Smith was stood down because they couldn’t afford him stoving his car into the weeds every race.😂
Did Mike Smith crash every race? 😂
Love it! Was there ever a more angry racer than Frank Sytner!?....oh yeah, there was, John Cleland!!
15:00 Undoing the seatbelts a whole lap before the driver change is a bit risky.
The Audis taking full advantage of the 4WD 😂
