Climbing Mt Index - Persis Index Traverse
Переглядів 2,8 тис.2 роки тому
One of the most recognizable peaks of the western Cascades, yet a peak notorious for steep, loose, and brushy climbing conditions. No route on this mountain is the "standard" way up, meaning getting to the top will be an exercise in route-finding, albeit a solitary one. Inside Washington's Deepest Cave - Newton Cave
Переглядів 3,5 тис.2 роки тому
This cave was once a massive vein of marble, dissolved into a jagged and unpredictable network of caverns extending to astonishing depths below the surface. Still not fully explored, there may be even more to this cave than is currently known.
Discovering Garnets and Red Terraced Flowstone in Red Cave
Переглядів 4913 роки тому
As part of the Cave Ridge formation, Red Cave was created when a vein of marble dissolved. This left behind a jagged, narrow, and mostly vertical cavern that is home to a variety of minerals. Principally among them were quartz, flowstone, and garnets. The cave itself continues to grow over time. We also make a descent into a part of the cave that has never been officially documented. Climbing Montgomery Peak - Boundary Traverse

A relatively small peak of the White Mountains, Boundary Peak only really sees a large volume of climbers thanks to its sub peak Boundary, which is the highest point in the state of Nevada. Nonetheless it is a fun scramble and easily done in a day.

Exploring Collapsed Remnants of the Abandoned Queen Mine
Переглядів 3823 роки тому
A small mine with very little information remaining about its operations, this site was one of many attempts to mine the gold and silver of the high Nevada desert. Here terrain is mild, vegetation is sparse, and precipitation is rare. That all adds up to relatively low cost of operation, evidenced by the abundance of old mines throughout this area. This happens to be near the start point of Bou...

Mount McKinley*
Mt. McKinley
Great video. What do the medical checks along the way consist of?
Just checking vitals. Heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation
I lived near index for about seven years in a cabin on the South Fork. Moved to Eastern WA in 2024.That was cool to see the route from Persis to Mt. Index. I hiked up to Persis three years ago by myself in 2022. I lost the trail twice and was pretty beat by the time I reached the top. Went again in 2023 at 60 years old. Persis is right up there at the top of my list as far as impressive views go. Thanks a lot for sharing your climb.
Persis really does have an incredible view especially considering how little hiking traffic it receives. It’s also cool to see the trains moving through sky valley from up there. Cheers!
3:40 what is that guy rubbing on his zipper? And why is he doing that of course lol.
BONUS FACT: Just like Malaysia's Mount Mulu National Park in the state of Sarawak, Alaska's Mount Denali can only be accessed by plane.
Awesome video mate! Nice work!
Thank you!
Awesome job mate ,👌👌
Thanks for watching!
I was cold just watching this. Congratulations on making the summit!
Amazing video. Thanks so much for sharing it!
That was a quick ascent😂thanks for the beautiful video and cool music!
is this mckinley?
Yes
No. Highest mountain in ALL ENTIRE AMERICA and Western Hemisphere. Please correct it. Thanks.
Highest Mountain of All AMERICA CONTINENT. Mount Aconcagua is the highest peak in the Americas, in the Western and in the Southern Hemisphere. The name Aconcagua comes from the native South American language Keichowa (Quechua) and means "the stone sentinel". ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
5:36 What a shot
Very nice video and great explanation. I'd like to do Boundary and almost feel like Montgomery is a must given that Boundary is really just a subpeak, but the descriptions of all the scramble that I've read sounded much worse than you have laid out here.
How far in can you go in the main area you went into at 7:45
This is such a crazy video well done
Yes. Great content and great video❤. Just the mic and background music is too loud at times.
Great video 🙂 I wanted to climb that but after watching this I realized that I couldn't do it. Awesome video!!!!
Nice job documenting those two adits up there! I’ve been to this area several times over the last 15 years or so. Always found most of the mines there to be duds like you did. As you mentioned, the underground workings must’ve been somewhat significant based on the size of the waste rock piles outside both adits. I tried doing some research on those mines but was never able to find any old mining reports or anything like that which had descriptions of the underground workings, production amounts, and other related information. They seem to be a mystery and are, unfortunately, decaying into oblivion.
Thanks! I wish there was more information on that area. It’s a bit out of the way from our usual mine explorations in the PNW but like you said I couldn’t find anything significant when I looked into it. I love your videos by the way! Your exploration of the victorine mine years ago was one of the things that first inspired us to start documenting the mining history in our corner of the country
Thats hardcore man. Much respect.
Beautiful work!!
That was really awesome to watch! Thank you for even including the animations on how cheyne stokes respirations worked. That definitely was cool to learn about!
Thanks for watching!
I'd take a 30m rope and small rack
Hi! I hear in this video that you obtained a map of the mine’s layout. How did you come across that resource? Always impressed by how prepared and researched you guys are heading in. Would love to learn from you and keep the history of these places alive
Hi again! You mentioned that dynamite was reported in the mine. Where was that reported? Any official docs or perhaps a forum? Trying to figure out where to find info on all this: thanks! Your videos are all bangers
Hi! Where do you find all your context information on the mine? Is it from historical accounts in books, etc? Thanks!
Does anyone know if there's a schedule when the gate is open at Rt. 2 & FR 6220? It was closed today and every other time I’ve checked in the past year.
Shoot the lock off.
Great video!
Have you been able to find hell hole cave?
Yes, just haven’t explored it yet! Maybe this summer
@@themountainexperience5692 that would be a great video. Patiently awaiting. My buddy and I just started so we went through cascade but we’re not yet ready for newton or lookout. With as much snow is up there we were afraid of falling through into a hole with a 60 foot drop. Going back in august!
I did this yesterday and nearly got lost because of the tiny little hole you have to squeeze through near the entrance haha
Spectacular views from that cave!
Great content! I might suggest a new mic setup though. Cheers!
Cheers! Yeah I think you’re right. Listening to it again the audio needs some work haha
Excellent video my friend, what time of year did you go? I"m scheduled for Mid Dec 2024, I subscribed to your channel
Much appreciated! I went about the same time, December 11th - 24th
Would you ever do a guided hike? i would pay good money! I have climbed mt. Pugh before and have experience I just need someone with me who has done the mountain before
A good tactic on this climb is to down climb the route which allows one to go very light since you don’t need to carry overnight gear over the summit. The climb is mostly 3rd and 4th class and we didn’t use a rope in either direction when I did it many years ago. From a bivy site near the base it took three hours to reach the summit and we’re back at Rainy Pass by about 6 pm. This wasn’t an original concept as other friends had used this same tactic in their ascents as well. Anyway I also know folks who had descended to the south, but it seems like an unnecessary complication, since it seems as if that route, while shorter is at least as difficult. I’d honestly be hard pressed to find much 5th class climbing on the NE buttress. That said, it’s a very nice outing in a lovely area.”
Thank you for making this video
Brilliant video, mentally Denali has to be the most demanding mountain on the planet. There's far more technically and physically demanding mountains I feel I'd be able to face one day but the weather on Denali can only be described as bleak, I couldn't do it. Really well done to all of you.
And zero support from the best I can tell you are the support. Which makes me feel less guilty about to be honest. Watching those sherpas haul gear and drag people up a mountain is unsettling to say the least
Can you explain the flashlight? Why does it make noise?
It’s a wire inside that bumps into the coolant fan blades. We use the 100 watt LED flashlight to get better lighting for the GoPro video
I was there today. I only got to the mill site, and collapsed Adit #2. Unlike on my previous visit, the trail seems to be open a considerable distance past Adit 2. Is the open stope easily visible from the trail, opposite Trout Creek?
Not geodes but quartz crystal-lined vugs.
What is your tent model?
The Hilleberg Unna. It’s a good alternative to the Soulo that’s a bit more spacious and versatile, albeit slightly less bombproof
hey, I'm planning on January 25. wasn't the guide required?
Guides are not required on Aconcagua
Could one do this in early/mid June in two days, do YOU think?
Yeah I think that would be reasonable. Depending on the year you might encounter snow coverage on the trail up to high camp, masking it and adding an additional navigation component. But past high camp extra snow coverage shouldn’t change the route much
@@themountainexperience5692 Thank you! Did you do this over 1 or 2 nights? And was there room for a bivy on the summit?
I did it over 1 night and had a good amount of spare time. The top is a bit rocky, but if you get creative you could probably bivy up there no problem

I'm hesitating going in May rainy season :)
Looks like one of your guides was Simon, he was also one of my guides when I climbed Kilimanjaro in December of 2019.
Yes we had Simon and Andrew as leads. Both of them were on top of it
Congrats man, i'm the guy on min 8:41. we were on the same summit push 20 dec. had to turn back also because i arrived late around 2:00 pm at lacueva. i summited on the next day 21 dec.
Oh yes, I remember. Congrats on the summit!
been there during summer but wasn't able to get up the waterfall so missed the adit. I'll have to try again someday. Not sure if was just editing for time but there were a lot more artifacts down by the lower camp. Did you miss the firewood still stacked up? The last few tenths of the road in was also unadulterated surface tram roadbed. Most of the road was widened for automobiles. Thanks for great video!
Oh cool! We only briefly explored the lower camp so we must have missed some of the artifacts down there. If we go back in the future we will check it out some more
