Cleveland Way, Saltburn to Scarborough. 75K
Attempting to ward off the overindulgence of Christmas holidays, Mel & I set off to Hike the 45 miles Cleveland Way stretch from Saltburn to Scarborough setting off at 02:30 hours heading east into the darkness along the cliff top.
The wind was gusting to 40 MPH, and we had to put our waterproof trousers and jackets on as we were also met by the rain. We had to leave the waterproofs on for the entire hike.
The cliff top paths were sloppy and Slippy with mud which made the going twice as hard as we planned, and this cost us a couple of hours.
We stopped at Sandsend, near Whitby for breakfast and Robin Hoods Bay for a late lunch including an egg and bacon pie with a bottle of old peculiar.
We also carried a fair amount of food and to keep fuelled for the hike and we carried 4 litres of water each and a flask of coffee each. As we approached the hotel in Scarborough we were about out of water.
The weather was cold, and it rained frequently so the phrase "no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing made perfect sense. As you can imagine we were well prepared for any eventuality. Each of us carrying 11 KG weight in our backpacks.
Whilst I thought I had enough spare batteries for my GoPro - the very freezing weather reduced the battery life and therefore I was unable to film the last 12 Kilometres. The last 15 K was extremely hard on our legs and feet, partly due the extra slipping and sliding in the incessant, never-ending mud.
We got to the Hotel at around 21:45 on Saturday evening with the total hike taking around 19 hours including breakfast and lunch breaks.

Scaffel Pike Piers Gill Route from Wasdale Head #ScaffelPike

The Piers Gill Route up Scafell Pike is quite challenging and includes some grade one scrambling as well as actual rock climbing. It is not for the faint hearted. If you are not an experienced mountain hiker, it is possibly best to choose a different route. Unless you have rope and tackle and know how to use it do not attempt to come DOWN the Piers Gill Route. For lovers of down hill, technical natural trails that only require optional airtime, this trail is a test of skills beyond jumping. Off camber roots, motor whoops and an optional rock garden combine to create a trail that at speed is perhaps the most technical on the hill. Line choices galore this trail can be negotiated by relatively novice riders but to master it will take great skill.

Thanks for that. Great memories from 2013. I went up via hollow stones and down via Piers Gill. I'll never forget it 👍
Definateley a tough climb and descent David, keeping away from the "Tourist" routes makes it more exciting and a little scary in places...
Fantastic effort 💪💪💪👏
Sorry About the wind, I forgot to fit my "Dead Cat" wind cover.

Great review, I'm considering getting one but I'm having trouble finding a shop that sell them. Can you tell me where you got yours from please?
I bought mine from a great shop in Canterbury called eFlow cycles. Elaine is the shop owner. Tell her Mick Say recommended you.. let me know how you get on..
Looking at the 2109 version to buy here in France. It is immaculate and well priced I think at just 1500 euros. Slightly different spec in terms of colours but basically the same bike. I am not sure if it has the higher battery power though. Like you I am just a bloke who rides and have got to the end of my tether on normal bikes what with all the hills around here. I ride a mix of roads, really unused back roads/lanes and of course tracks and trails. Is this the bike for me do you think?
If you can purchase an immaculate 2019 Model for 1,500 Euro - you should buy it quickly these are really good biles, strong robust and reliable.

Would be interested to hear your feedback now after a few months riding especially through the winter months. After thrashing my Cube AT through the British winter its now starting to show some issues: Bosch Gen 4 now "far-far nosier," than when purchased (6months ago); battery compartment rattling; new headset bearings and rear XT hub replaced. I have also gone through x3 sets of brake pads in 6 months on both front and rear. This is my first eMTB and I have no reference to know if this type of wear is normal (??). I would say however that I have ridden this bike far harder than any other MTB owned given the opportunity it presents to cover so much mileage. Still a great bike to ride!
your comment/question puts me off of converting to E-bike. :/
Tiverton during the race.
This at cove woods or triscombe ?
Tiverton 🤟
@@Mick_Say_Trail_Sports where in Tiverton 😂 I can’t sus out where it would be unless it’s changed for this year 🤷🏻♂️
@@danielforward8218 I have no Idea.. I parked in the event parking field and followed the prescribed route - I could not remember or explain exactly where it was. But they do change routes most years..
Great review Mick. I purchased a 2020 model following your review and after much deliberation over other brands. The bike is every bit as good as you say! Fantastic fun!
Cheers buddy. Cube are incredible bikes still loving ours. Did you hear, Danny Heart just signed with Cube... Huge news... follow me on Strava... Mick Say MTB101
What mileage do you get out of it ?
@@stuartcareless9550 we did 68 miles on a ride in the summer with 20% battery left. On normal rides in the woods I just leave it in turbo and have fun. I get about 20 miles with 50% battery left. Easy enough battery for majority of rides.
To make everyone aware, the small plastic cover around the motor is very weak. It will soon smash off, costs £39 and Cube don't have it in stock and don't intend to have it in stock any time soon. It's clear Cube are not supporting after sales. You have been warned.
I broke mine in the first week and nearly a year later still waiting!!
@@Mick_Say_Trail_Sports people need to be made aware of Cube's poor service.
@@penknifemonkey true enough but I have found everything to be good with cube service. Only this issue persists.
@@Mick_Say_Trail_Sports I have cubes customer service e mail. Emailing them in a bit.
@@penknifemonkey let me know how you get on buddy
How do you get to this trail been covert but never seen this one !
Hey, did you notice any metallic knocking sound on rough terrain, its normal?... mb its just a motor? I have this ://
No I didnt but check all the linkages at the rear triangle.. Let me know how you get on ..
Just if you can update that Carbon frames have 3 years warranty on 'em. 5 years is for Alu Frames. Also after the warranty expires Cube offers a crash plan scheme :)
Cheers Buddy, My bike shop offer me the 5 year warranty not the manufacturer. Eflow cycles in Kent are a bit special..
Love this bike and love your enthusiasm!!!!! Cube Action Team rules for sure!
Cheers Steve.. Still loving it...
Have you hit any tidy jumps on this bike?? If so, how's the weight distribution regarding the battery placement, is it neutral in the air or front heavy.... Currently torn between this bike, the Whyte e160 rs and Haibike allmtn7... Had a Cube Ftitzz for years that I absolutely loved so veering towards the stereo, thanks and great video 🤘
Niel Howells I ride full enduro and the weight distribution is surprisingly good. It only takes a short while to get used to the difference between this and a proper bike - I still ride both 😀 I avoid large huck to flat drop ops but most jumps are sound.
have u tried outbound lighting trail version, i see u do alot of trail riding, the width of ob trail edition is unmatched.
Sorry for the late reply. I’ve not tried it but I will check it out. Thanks for the heads up
Great review of a very nice bike - looks fab, want one! I'm 5'6" (or was 35 years ago.....), I think the small frame size would be ideal. Any thoughts/advice?
Edward Hopkin hi Ed. I am 5’7 and I have the size large as I like a long bike. The medium will be fine. My wife has a medium and she is 6’6. So all will be well. However if your are like me and prefer a larger bike then a test ride would be a great idea....
Hi Ed - Slight typo - my wife is 5 Ft 5 Inches.... not 6’6 - wish I could type :-)
@@Mick_Say_Trail_Sports Yes I did wonder when you wrote 6'6" and was going to post - 'Amazon woman' but didn't want to offend! Medium it is then, just need to sort a test ride somewhere and find the money from somewhere..........

Great review i have this exact bike and not really used it to it’s potential as yet i read a recent review on the paintwork or lack of it resulting in stone chips have you experienced any issues with the paintwork ? Looking forward to using this bike more thanks 😊
David Calder not had trouble with stone chips but a mate knocked my bike over and it took a chunk of paint of under the set tube. I was fuming....
MTB101 Gutted for you as i know how that feels when you try to look after nice things seen the 2021 model today in the flesh awesome bike
Hi, where is this ? Blean? Thank you
Renata Gransden yes blean and clowes. Hope you well Renata?
Hi you ok ?? Today
I will keep watching to see
What ??
Nice one 👍
Was thinking of either a Cube or Whyte.. Think I will go Whyte. Watched the review (bloody good) and it's the motor dragging you back when max speed is reached that swayed it. The Whyte motor cuts out when max speed is hit, so you save power and don't get dragged back.
I rode both and the Motor drag on the Whyte is way worse than the Cube. That said they are both great bikes and they are all 15MPH restricted. Let me know what you got - when you get it :-)..
Great video.. Subscribed..
Thank you...
I've got last year's and I love it. Best bike for your buck i say

@Jax Teller Mine took 4 months from order mine was a 20" size Large - what size was yours Jax ?
Hi Thanks for subscribing to me
Hi Mick, where was you riding for this video. I need to find more routes like this? (Darren from Birchington)
Darren Allinson hi Darren the woods are at Blean and Clowes great trails. Also check out Covert Woods - hope to see you on the trials some time soon.
MTB101 thank you - we’ve already meet a few week ago at Covert. Just wanted a bit more enduro - seen the route on yr strava so I’ll give it ago and maybe have a ride with u soon.
I really want to buy the Stereo 160 AT, but I'm struggling a bit with the frame size :-( I'm 1.83m (6.1f) and have an inner leg length of 87cm (about 34.5inc). I think I should go for the 20" frame rather than the 22". But when comparing the Top Tube (EFF) lenght of 619mm (about 24.5inc) with other bikes their Top Tubes are much longer than the Stereo. e.g. Orbea Wild FS H10 XL: 645mm, Corratec E-Power RS 160 Factory: 653mm Or with other words: I fear to sit too close to the handlebar when choosing the 20", but with the 22" the seat tube would be too long. I prefer it to be comfortable, rather upright seating and being more DH oriented :-) What's your recommendation on the size ? How tall are you and which frame size did you choose ?
I am 5’7” tall and I have the 20inch . I like a big bike. 100% you must go for the 22”
MTB101 - I had contact with another UA-cam dude and he‘s 1.86m tall (6‘2“) and he‘s also riding the 20“ and it‘s fine for him, he doesn’t have any negative feeling like being place too much over the handle bar. So I reckon it should be fine for my 6‘1“ as I have rather long legs. With the 22“ the seat tube is too long I think, even 30mm/2.2inc longer than on my current bike where I sometimes wish I could go further down with my dropper post. Anyway, too late, already ordered the 20“ 😇 Fingers crossed it will fit me 🙈
