    • @Train.in.vain.tattoos
      @Train.in.vain.tattoos 2 місяці тому

      @@Tom-iw7lx after doing some research I’m not sure that it is quicker kill time but sounds like it is more effective at killing as it is diluted with more water so it dries at a slower rate allowing more kill time. At least that’s what I’m understanding. Even though you may think the higher concentration is more effective, experts say 70% is actually better for disinfecting. It has more water, which helps it to dissolve more slowly, penetrate cells, and kill bacteria. The disinfecting power of rubbing alcohol drops at concentrations higher than 80%-85%.

    The differences in cheap and expensive canvas isn't just the amount/quality of gesso and how it's prepped, but the quality of the wood and the type/tightness of weave. With the cost and time it takes to toss on extra gesso to a bargain basement canvas you could just get a better quality canvas in the first place. Or better yet stretch your own

  • @stephencard6808
    @stephencard6808 9 місяців тому

    The wetting of the canvas will cause the threads to fatten and swell, making the canvas extremely taut. IT IS IMPORTANT not to do an overly tight first stretching: the tremendous contractive forces from wetting could cause thread slippage, breakage and stretcher splitting. If you are going to be a professional artist it is best how to stretch your own canvas. Believe me, it is part of your job! I always stretch my own canvas & linen. I make my own panels as well.

    • @JustMe-ed1cq
      @JustMe-ed1cq 9 місяців тому

      The advantage is being able to use exactly and only what you want and how, and not having any unknowns to contend with. If you restrict yourself to preprimed and stretched canvases you are missing the chance to further your subject by leaving these important expressive choices to someone else. One can say a LOT with just the weave of the linen support and chosen ground layer(s). @@steveferguson698

      Hi @rosateresacastro-vargas8592 I also work with textiles (hobby). The guy said to wet the back and let it dry saying it would stretch the canvas tighter, But as someone who also knows about fibres I wanted to ask do you also have a concern that after drying over time that the canvas will become flimsy and loose? A bit like when you wet linen on a loom to tighten the threads but when dry it loosens.
