I Found Treasure at the Beach! - Metal Detecting with Minelab Manticore E-62
Welcome to Jason Does Things!
This episode was filmed the evening after the 4th of July. I've never really had much luck the day after Independence Day, probably because the beaches get hit pretty hard by other detectorists, and there's usually quite a bit more trash targets from all the crowds.
On this evening, I ended up hitting two beaches. The first stop was up in Del Mar, California. Surprisingly, I spent about an hour out on the beach and only came across two pieces of foil and a dime on the way out before heading to "The Old Hotel" beach to hopefully redeem the video.
Luckily there were far more targets at the second beach including my fair share of garbage. Nevertheless, I did manage to find some jewelry before calling it a night and heading home.
Hopefully you enjoy the outing! Until next time, Happy Hunting.

Welcome to Jason Does Things! Today I took a road trip up to Venice Beach (aka GTA Beach) while my family went shopping (and no, I didn't feel like shopping lol). I brought along the Minelab Manticore and my CKG Pro Scoop and headed north toward Santa Monica, working along the tide line and occasionally up through the towel line. I established a coin line in the wet sand and followed that until...

Welcome to Jason Does Things! Tonight I take the drive from San Diego to Carlsbad with the Minelab Manticore for a brief night hunt. Initially I was only really going to focus on the dry sand, as there wasn't going to be much of a low tide. After getting down to the sand I did happen to notice a decent slope with areas that had formed a shallow cut, so I worked that area for a while. Aside from...

    I enjoyed the video. I know what you mean about keeping a certain machine forever. I have an old Tesoro Bandido i bought in 1990. My grandfather had just just retired, and liked to go detect with me. He never wanted to try it himself, he just liked seeing what I found. He really liked seeing old coins he remembered coming up. I've found tons with it, its still a great machine (if you know its language) and I can't use it without thinking of those days with him. Its not going anywhere.

    The city of Morro Bay is not in front of you it’s behind you. Not a mountain. Morro Rock, an ancient eroded plug from a long dormant volcano. Sometimes called the Gibraltar of the Pacific. It’s one of nine similar morros and peaks ranging from 1550 to 600 feet tall stretching from San Luis Obispo to the ocean. It’s a peregrine falcon sanctuary and a state historic park. Uninformed tourists from Fresno sometimes climb it and are arrested as it is protected land by the state and the local tribes.

    Would be nice to know your thoughts on what you find vs your old machines. Do you feel like you’re finding valuable targets you wouldn’t have found with the 800? Do you feel like it goes deeper than the 800? I have a legend and a 600 I’m completely happy with the features and build quality. Really valuable info would be, am I going to find things with the manticore that my current machines won’t find?

    • @jasondoesthings
      @jasondoesthings 2 місяці тому

      @@jboat571x9 As far as finding more valuable targets, I would say no, definitely not. Especially if you have come to know the sounds of an older machine. Aside from possibly a little more depth, the one really useful feature of the manticore has been the target trace, which adds a layer of information to the decision of dig or no dig. It's a great machine, but for the price point, the benefits have been rather marginal compared to my Nox 800 to be honest. Hope that helps! 👍

    • @jasondoesthings
      @jasondoesthings 3 місяці тому

      @@mase202 Congrats! A few things to mitigate the chatter is be sure to do a proper noise cancel with the coil about a foot off the ground, also check for sources of EMI such as cell towers or power lines overhead as those will increase chatter... even cell phones can contribute to it. Next is bring the sensitivity down until it calms the chatter. Depending on the park, I usually run between 18 and 24 sensitivity with recovery speed between 5 and 7. Also, make sure your machine has the updated firmware. There's instructions under the Manticore page on Minelab's website. Hopefully that helps!

    A good intro that would've helped the struggling newbies I met on the sand. I think many of the answers for (ocean) beach detecting depend on whether wet or dry sand - or different emphasis on parts of the same info. Misc add'l comments: pinpointers are an important accessory / class rings are fun to track & return / pull tabs & some bottle caps are among the most common (& best sounding 'finds') / in crowds - maybe headphones so tones don't disturb people - also discourages interruptions / also in crowds - cameras-phones can cause issues / starting detector - research based on the type of detecting you're going to do - UA-cam is a GREAT resource! Thanks, Jason!

    Seems a bit strange how you name what each item is before you see it or dig it up. Down to your last dime you dug. You called it too. hmmmm. Especially when you called for a key, then dug two up about two hits later and naming the pull tabs and tent stakes before you even saw them. Never saw anyone able to do that in years of watching and digging myself.
