    Getting rid of jim martin was the biggest mistake FNM ever mad...their material went downhill after as well as alot of their sound...not to say the other albums werent good but stack TRT and AD against KFDFAL and AOTY and the first 2 are the better by far

    • @TheBomber15
      @TheBomber15 5 років тому

      N CYRKLS Given the fact that Jim contributed fuck all to Angel Dust, you’d be wrong there. AD & KFADFFALT are FNM’s best albums, and Jim had minimal contribution to just about one of them.

    Im sure thats true about the writing process with spruance but i cant really agree with you about a lack of adistinctive rhythm section on KFAD. Gould may not have done a lot of slapping on it, but its my favorite FNM album and one my favorite albums of all time. So to me, its a more than fair trade off .

  • @artiegohome
    @artiegohome 12 років тому

    I shy away from saying that FNM ever went downhill. This is/was a band you have to think of as a constantly evolving creature. "Song of Liberty" isn't even 7 degrees of Kevin Bacon from "Mouth to Mouth"... they're worlds apart and yet they're both part of FNM canon. Some people simply didn't follow the band as it evolved with each successive record; prefering to think of them as locked into a single genre and expecting them to get into a groove so to speak. Thank goodness they never did.

    @peterp21 And as far as Patton worship.. do I qualify for that just because I don't think The Real Thing is their best album? I don't like or even know about half the weird projects Mike Patton does. But I do like Mr. Bungle... and Tomahawk. Not on the level that i like FNM but, I can appreciate them as relevant, unique bands with good songwriting. If you can't, maybe you're the one with the problem. When's the last time Jim Martin wrote something relevant?

  • @divinegrinder
    @divinegrinder 12 років тому

    @peterp21 Then we fundamentally disagree because i think Angeldust and King for a Day... are classic FNM albums and every bit as good as The Real Thing. Jim Martin contributed little to nothing on Angeldust and nothing obvisouly on King for a Day. I think you would find that if you polled actual Faith no More fans, those albums might even be more popular. A lot of the people that bought The Real Thing are casual listeners and just bought it because of "Epic."

  • @peterp21
    @peterp21 12 років тому

    @divinegrinder I know this will be an unpopular opinon but FNM went downhill after Martin left. Their albums just became generic sounding. I'm not saying Martin was the main reason for this, just saying there's a corrleation. I don't think either FNM album afterward even sold 250,000 copies; i.e., they were essentially ignored and faded into oblivion. Of course, people that would worship diarrhea as long as it came out of Patton's ass will think I'm speaking crazy talk.

  • @Guitarsthatkill
    @Guitarsthatkill 12 років тому

    @divinegrinder They started out new waveish/new romantic/dance style....then became more metalish when Jim joined in '84. No way would a Jizzlobber or Surprise you're dead have surfaced without Jim. Sure Bill Gould played funky bass, and Jim Played metal guitar, but they had too much pop in them to truely be "Funk Metal" a tag thats always been a problem when describing Zombie Eaters/The Real Thing/Edge of the World. I think it was a lazy press umbrella tag that sold FNM short.

  • @divinegrinder
    @divinegrinder 12 років тому

    @Guitarsthatkill And I think Jim was the rock solid foundation of FNM and without him there would be no such band but as far as the "evolution" goes I don't really think he had much of a part in it. They started out a funk metal band and ended up something bigger than that . He didn't really want to change... and that is something he has said himself if you look at interviews from around the time he left. Awesome musician though.. and no one can take that away from him.

  • @divinegrinder
    @divinegrinder 12 років тому

    @Guitarsthatkill Jizzlobber and Kindergarten are two of my favorite songs on the album. But Jim was hard to work with back during the recording of that album and most of the stuff on it was written without him. Imagine how good it would have been if he contributed to every song. I'm not bashing Jim Martin... great guitar player. But personally I think they got better with every album. He could have been part of that and if he was who knows what they could have written.

  • @Guitarsthatkill
    @Guitarsthatkill 12 років тому

    @divinegrinder Whilst I value Patton's contributions to the band's music on from AD, Jim wrote Jizzlobber and Kindergarten, wrote the solos/harmonies. Not to mention the awesomeness of his live sound/work. (That no other guitarist with FNM came to close to live) Thats not exactly "No contribution" on AD. And Martin did in contribute to the evolution. Did you hear the Faith no man stuff yet? There was a lot of evolution bought about from Jim's involvement since those days..

  • @divinegrinder
    @divinegrinder 13 років тому

    @SDMFAnthony01 I also agree that your age when albums come out plays a big part in how good they are to you. Im only 27 so the first album i heard from them was King for a day.... and it just blew my mind. Then i went back and listened to The Real Thing and Angeldust. It's like they are a different band on every record which is awesome if they are consistently great. I wish sometimes i was your age because to me that was the last golden age for good music. Most everything sucks now.

  • @divinegrinder
    @divinegrinder 13 років тому

    @SDMFAnthony01 I agree with you whole heartedly... That is one of the best live performances i've ever seen period, let alone for Faith no More. Im glad someone realizes I'm not attacking Jim Martin. My original post is a little harsh looking back but i was trying to make a point. FNM is one of my favorite bands and Jim Martin was a part of that. I just don't see the point of making a watered down version of the same song of the band you were in.

  • @SDMFAnthony01
    @SDMFAnthony01 13 років тому

    @divinegrinder i get you're point...i'm 42 and was about 21 when THE REAL THING came out, so that is their best album to me..at least my favorite, but ANGELDUST was very brilliant too, and KING FOR A DAY...was insane as well, but that performance in London at the Brixton Academy (YOU FAT BASTARDS) is an unparalleled performance in my humble opinion.

  • @instereovideos
    @instereovideos 13 років тому

    @divinegrinder Yeah, that's pretty much the consensus among fans that prefer FNM's later albums.

  • @divinegrinder
    @divinegrinder 13 років тому

    @instereovideos Mike Patton played just as big a role on the Real Thing as Jim Martin. Jim Martin was unwilling to be in the same band with a strong creative influence like Patton. Mike Patton clicked with everyone in the band besides Jim Martin and also wrote a lot on Angel Dust on the albums after it. If you watched the documentary on the making of A.D. you can see how stubborn and unwilling to progress Martin is. Give the later albums a chance. The Real Thing was great but they got better.

  • @instereovideos
    @instereovideos 13 років тому

    @divinegrinder Yeah, that's why Angel Dust wasn't as good as Real Thing... because Martin didn't have as much influence. It was just the last FNM album that didn't totally suck, because Patton wasn't free to do any stupid thing he wanted to do (like he did immediately after Martin was out). So, your friends who listen to "X-treme radio" told you that old FNM was "funk metal," and now you don't listen to it. Yeah sorry, but you're not an FNM fan. Go listen to your Korn and Incubus records.

  • @divinegrinder
    @divinegrinder 13 років тому

    @instereovideos Funny cause Jim Martin had almost nothing to do with the writing of Angel Dust and it is a classic album... and King for a Day is probably their best record in my opinion. I know Mike Patton came out of the woodwork with his weird ideas and ruined your funk metal fantasy but give me a break. This version of SYD sucks compared to the original no matter how you look at it and there was no point in recording it.
