Are Eastman Guitars BETTER Than Epiphone?
Eastman is a China-based instrument manufacturer, and Epiphone is the import brand for Gibson featuring mostly Chinese-made guitars. Eastman is certainly well less known, and they also command a slightly higher price than most Epiphones. Is it worth it? Hear my opinions in this video, and hopefully they help you decide. Personally, I think the Eastman sounds better, but that could be mainly due to the P90 pickups (in humbucker size.) I do think that the Eastman plays a bit better, but it is marginal and the Epiphone could certainly do well with a good setup. I believe that both of these guitars present an accurate reflection of value at their respective price points. Let me know what you think, and thanks for watching! Subscribe for more.

I've been tracking the progress (a fancy way of saying "waiting patiently until it comes out while scouring the internet for any news) of the Epiphone DG-335 since the fall (at least, maybe summer) of 2023. From Agnesi and Guekian's Instagrams, to live footage of the Foo Fighters. I was ecstatic to find out, on March 3rd, that it was slated for March 5th release, and I put my order in as soon a...

I took advantage of a rare opportunity to own TWO nearly identical Gibson Flying V electric guitars, one from 2004 and one from 2011. Both featuring ebony fretboards on a classic white finish, as well as 496R and 500T pickups. I can only keep one, drop a comment guessing which one it is! Looking for a Flying V on a budget? Gibson SG Special 2018 Overview

Signal chain for this video: Gibson 2018 SG Special - Vox AC15C1 - Sennheiser e609 To view the Gibson spec sheet for this guitar: legacy.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/2018/USA/SG-Special-2018.aspx Hello there! Welcome to Pineapple Guitar. New to creating on UA-cam, I hope to add to the already fruitful community of online guitar players and bring some more insight on a lot of the things ...
Intonation is a bit weird on these, my brother got the Bullet version many years ago but never touched it, after I rescued it with new strings and a bit of neck work it was 90% solid. Good first guitar and definitely unique, plus a huge cult forum following for mods, but they have their issues
Nice playing, man! Myself, I like the Eastman better. I have a Peavey JF-1 (Also a semi-hollow body) and it's not leaving me any time soon. I don't know about actual Gibsons, but I know it'd slap Epiphones around any day. I never really had any interest in a semi-hollow body guitar, but someone made me an offer I couldn't refuse and since it was a new style to me, I figured why not? I'm really I took a chance on it.
About 18 months ago I bought an Eastman T64/v (ES-330/Casino inspired with varnish finish and Bigsby B7) for around 2k Euros (approx. 2,140 USD) as a backup for my Collings IC-30 LC (current price over here 8.6k Euros / approx. 9,220 USD)... I sold the Collings within 6 weeks and got a second Eastman... I had a look at the just released new Gibson ES-330 (around 3.6k Euros) last week and left the shop laughing - it is absolutely terrible... Eastman and Tokai eat Gibson for lunch.
Not fair at all. Compare the Epiphone to a Sire maybe.
eastman used to be incredibly cool.............. then they stopped using nitro finishes..............
They use true tone now, which is very thin and will wear similar to nitro. I have a few vintage varnish models, which the finish leaves nitro for dead.
Of course, Eastman is better than Gibson too
not a fair comparison , Eastmans are far superior than any epi and most Gibsons!
Nice breakdown dude
I've owned several 335s; Epiphone, Tokai, Heritage, Gibson and now an Eastman and I must say that the Eastman is far and away the best of them all. Excellent fit and finish, appointments, playability and even just to look at. If you can get over the Eastman label I would put it over the Gibson. It's a stunning, totally handmade guitar. As an entry level, the Epiphone is a good place to start though.
Good stuff. Excellent playing. Please keep up the good work.
P.S. Remember, asking price, and purchase price are 2 different things. I see stuff listed on Reverb all the time for new retail list, give, or take a few bucks, but people are just trying to minimize their losses after fees. A lot of people that just don't know how stuff in this world work.
Hang in there Bro Knows. I am a UA-cam addict, and you have the right stuff. Believe me. People know the difference between a sales pitch, and a review. At least I do. SUBSCRIBED. Keep up the good work.👍
I own an Eastman T486B. Short version: There is no comparison unless you compare and instruct Gibson's Murphty Lab Custom Shop to build you an identical ES guitar for thousands of dollars more.
No comparison. I have a few Epiphones but bought them with the intention of modding pick-ups, wiring and hardware so I can customise them to my liking - so many excellent boutique pick-up makers out there (Monty's, Bare Knuckles, Lollars etc. etc) and Gotoh hardware strikes me as a premium option. I can get a well made Epi Les Paul / Casino 'perfect for me' and still be well inside the cost of a Gibson LP Standard or the US made Casino. That said after finally having the chance to try some Eastmans last yearI will definitely be buying the SB59.v and a Juliet . . . easily as good as any of the Gibson Custom Shops I have tried.
Thanks for the review. I've been curious about Eastman guitars.
In my personal opinion there is no comparison. Eastman Guitars are simply amazing. My shop sold Eastman for years. The only other Guitar that you could consider better made were the Taylor acoustics.
hello, best wishes for your videos, and keep posting. My experience with the 'varnish' and 'relic' finished Eastman Les Pauls is that they are ''on-par'' with a gibson custom shop. It's strange therefore to me, to see them compared to Epiphones. Have a great day.
just wanted to point out that the bullet and sonic are different; the neck radius and the pickup size (?) is different, i know that modding bullets is a tad harder because the pickups are weird and the neck radius on the bullets is 11-12 inch vs the sonics being 9.5
I love this guitar. I owned a Custom Shop Tele that was very similar and while I don't have both of them to compare any longer, I'd say this one is damn sure close enough to me for a few thousand dollars less. My only gripe is with my particular set of Tex-Mex pickups--they are ridiculously noisy to the point of being unusable and I'm finally replacing them.
Johnny Winter played a Mustang a lot in his earlier years and not a a learner guitar. He filled concert halls and fields with this guitar. Grunge did make them popular again.
I grabbed a Mustang and a DuoSonic a few years ago and threw some Lollars in them. One set was vintage Mustang inspired, the others were a hotter more modern take on them. They are pretty sweet.
Enjoyed your video (subscribed). I own that exact same blue one made in 2017 in Indonesia, 12" radius fretboard, contours (arm & tummy cuts), and Humbuckers/3 way switch. I actually like the stock pickups/switching/tuning keys (*just tighten them up everywhere).
I bought the Bullet mustang (in that exact blue colour) about 7 years ago and it got me back into playing after a 10 year break. - something about the neck, I dunno. Never played the Sonic version but I would guess very similar. Excellent value for money.
Would love to see how dialed in you can get with this platform. $199 is hard to pass up
Literally 95% of the video is talking... Everyone can search for the information you’re talking about. We want to HEAR the guitars!
@@sovka8394 thanks for the feedback! I watch a lot of channels that talk about the guitar industry and I quite enjoy it as that’s how I learned a lot of what I know. Some people may find the info interesting but would not have known to search out the information for themselves. I noticed there are already a lot of videos on youtube giving sound examples for these guitars. Usually those videos have “review” or “demo” in the title if anyone would like to search for them. I chose the title for this video because it’s an accurate description of the video and what I wanted to put out there. I’m sure I will do more demos and reviews in the future, perhaps on this guitar and potentially when I do some modifications to it.
@@BroKnowsGuitar I still think the majority just wants to hear the guitar sound. That’s how I found your video, I searched for the Squier Sonic Mustang HH. I’m glad you’re taking it as a feedback. Keep making videos.
@@sovka8394shut up your missing the point of the video
@sovka8394 Hi! So usually when people want to watch a demo video, they search for a demo video, not an informational. Hopefully this helps!!!😇
You don't speak for everyone. This is exactly the type of guitar videos I'm looking for. I'm tired of watching someone stroke their ego with blues licks, and I just want to listen to someone talk about the gear. If I'm in the mood to watch videos, I don't really want to listen to music.
Классно!А как на акустичесской?! Слабо?!
Awesome 🥰
I wanchu.
❤ Beautiful Plus one of my favorite songs ❤
Easy... trade it in on a Gibson.
Maybe Epiphone sells dry fretboards, so you really have a choice, some like almond oil, some want walnut oil, some do not want it to smell. And if the factory puts on oil, it will take YEARS before you smell walnut. Wood it be that simple?
People complain about the appearance of pau ferro but after conditioning this looks like it could pass as rosewood
People always complain. When they buy a '52 Strat, they complain they like a '52 Tele better. People are beeeeeep!
SOUND!
How’s that neck ? I had the Epiphone 339 and had to return it because I couldn’t work with the “D” shaped neck profile.
It’s chunky! Measurements I’ve seen online mostly average out to about .90 first fret and 1.00 twelfth fret. They say it’s an elliptical C shape. Definitely feels 50’s thick. Lots of shoulder, comfortable if you’re into thick necks. Thanks for watching!
that was sick
Very nice!
Dude this is sick. I've always wanted one, but I cannot play them comfortably to save my life hahaha. This is Damion from the Guitar Artistry Program, btw. I appreciate the conversation! I'm subbed!
@@damionandy hey! Thanks man! Returned the sub!
Truth
Lol. Or tabs
From that far away it's like what's the point of even going you can't really see anything except for on the big screen and then you might as well watch it online and save money.
@@rogerrude313 well that’s just like, your opinion, man.
Spot on RE: the Tex-Mex pickups. Great for old skool TWANG, but they’re also really hot, too; hot enough for a solid overdrive tone to play convincing late ‘60s/early ‘70s blues-based rock. I use this with a Roland JC120 and don’t bother w/any external effects.
@@SGBassplayer very nice! I used this guitar as my main in a Texas Country group and also with my alternative/Brit-rock band, which speaks to the versatility of the Tex-Mex!
I prefer vintage depending on year, but I don't like the creme coloring so based on that I'd go with the 2011. So which one did you keep?
I kept the 2004 😎
Was that before or after he revolutionized the hvac industry with his plastic fan you add ice cubes t!! Sams been busy!!!) Lmfao!!
@@gregoryzischke1843 what in the world
My man- great video. Thanks for being honest, ur right. I assumed it was gonna be 1600. Honestly 13's not bad. I grabbed the AJ custim and the white custom, both exceeded expectations. Also right about the feel. It's not the Finnish, its the construction/woods used. Epis get close but like you said..not quite there. Glad I found ur channel, good luck-
Thanks Andrew!
Do u know your audio is recorded off speed and you sound like the chipmunks? 😂😂😂😂
That's to speed up the long and boring unboxing process. Demo and thoughts are shown after that portion.
The gibsons I was buying in the 07 timeframe started coming with white case interiors, which I thought looked really sharp at the time. Around the szme time (maybe a year earlier) the satin dust covers disappeared, which I honestly always thought were a pain in the butt. An extra step to fiddle with when you closed the case to make sure it wasn't outside the lid where it might pick up moisture or grime.
I agree it is a little bit of a hassle, but there's something about it that adds some cool factor but I'm not sure why! I still think the white interiors look great, but they show dirt and I'm not sure how to clean them without introducing chemicals that could be harmful to the nitro finish. Otherwise they're my favorite Gibson cases!
@pineappleguitar6781 I wouldn't use anything stronger than warm soapy water and then it completely air out. Naptha (lighter fluid) is OK on lacquer but might not be great for the case lining.
I have a 97 white one and so tempted to get a second one with the stock pickups. My first one has Suhr aldrich PUs in it. Just fantastic. I’m not sure if it’s overkill this would take me to 5 electrics because can’t get myself to sell my LP or SG.
The formula for the right amount of guitars is always the amount you have plus one!
Can I ask how much you paid for your 97 and what you think of it , sort of condition it was in and did it come with the 496r 500t set ? Just bought and awaiting delivery of a white 97 ,,,
have you got rid of one of them yet i'm in the market for a cream V
I have, but keep a watch on Reverb, they come available every once in a while!
I just impulse bought one of these a couple days ago. Had been shopping for a new Vintera 2 in blonde that I ended up getting. And then this popped up into my Reverb feed the next day. Had never seen a purple Tele before (especially with nitro finish). I learned how rare it was being a special run and exclusive color. Had to buy it.
@@blues3531 great score! Nothing wrong with two teles 😎
