UK Tropical Garden - November Tour - Patio Plants in Focus
Rather than provide a full garden November tour I have decided to focus mainly on the less hardy plants. I have bought these plants closer to the house, while I decide on overwintering tactics.

The Dancing Pixies type of saxifrage flowers from late summer until November.

Preventing flooding and improving drainage in my UK Tropical garden
Переглядів 202Місяць тому
After all the recent rainfall in my Milton keynes garden, my patio would normally be flooded. I appear to have finally found a partial fix to this by routing the water into a moat around my tropical style raised bed.

How to coppice and pollard to create new growth
Переглядів 192Місяць тому
In this video I am pruning some trees to encourage new growth. Coppicing is a pruning technique that cuts trees and shrubs to ground level, causing new shoots to grow rapidly from the base. Pollarding is when trees are cut to the main stem or trunk, ultimately controlling the height of the main stem itself.

Nice collection of plants. Thanks for sharing.
Love this plant it’s in my book for purchase next year. 🌴🌴

Thanks! 😊
Просто слов нема !!!!! Шикарное садь !!!! ❤
@@ЗокирРахимов-о3ж thanks very much for watching
Beautiful garden. I grow cannas. All colors , different varieties. I grow all of mine in 15 large containers. I pull them out of their containers because they would not survive our cold winters. And dry store them in wood shavings in boxes in my garage.
I am going to be doing a mix this year of bringing in and leaving out. The ones I left out, did all come back last year, but it was a mild winter.
BEAUTIFUL BELLO HERMOSO
Thanks so much
Defo getting some of this!
@TheCornishCottageGarden-bs5lf Amazing stuff boss!
Beautiful flowers 💐

Beautiful! October and stil tropical 😉🌴
thanks, much appreciated
First time watching your channel. Garden looking great. Really wanted to buy Salvia Amistad but found it too big for my small front garden so went for a very similar one called Rockin’ Deep Purple which is a smaller shrub plant but full of blooms well worth a look.
@tonycastro9997 thanks i will be sure to check that out. I have a few Salvia varieties which I am currently propagating :-)
Great video!
Its a right bananarama round at GrowTropicalMK HQ 🤘

I definitely need to do this. I love bamboo so much and I actually did not think it would grow so well in New York, but of course it has.
@@newyorktropicalgarden9364 haha bamboo will always find a way!
@@GrowTropicalMK you are so correct. I would have a whole bamboo forest with paths if I could.
Me too! Unfortunately, I think the better the looking ones run more !
@@GrowTropicalMK fully agree!
Great video. I definitely need to do this with several of my plants.
@@newyorktropicalgarden9364 My idea is to create some smaller trees with bigger trunks. Then I can do some underplanting
@@GrowTropicalMK I think that is perfect
That's great. I will try that.
@@newyorktropicalgarden9364 easy easy!
Your yard is beautiful Andrew. Lots of cool plants. Are dahlias hardy in ground for you? I'm looking forward to your overwintering video for ensete. I wanna get one again soon.
Thanks its a labour of love !Dhalia are hardy to a point, but -8c stopped all mine coming back. In the past, they have grown fine in the ground or in pots. This year the slugs have decimated them for me.
Your garden is still very colourful in October and well maintained :) I prune + move my Salvias in my greenhouse. They still dont make it 😢
@S_M20000 Thanks ! The hotlips, blue marvel and carrodonna come back each year for me from the ground or pots left outside. Not sure about the amistad though
@@GrowTropicalMK - ok thanks for letting me know :) I like Amistad's colour. Its definitely going on my next year's wishlist :)
Loved your tour Andrew. Really amazing plants! And they look so happy in your garden 🌺🍀 congratulations!
@@TheBlueMoonGarden thanks for your kind words!
looks great! the monkey puzzle looks ace, i really want one! hopefully its a fairly mild winter. the garden looks like its filling in nicely
@richardfrais_backyard_projects Thanks ! I will be putting the monkey puzzles up for sale soon :-) special discounts for tropical gardening enthusiasts lol I do want them to go to a good home.
@@GrowTropicalMK ooooh thats interesting 🤔😎 i may be in the market for one, lol its the eventual size and placement im trying to work out haha 😅
@richardfrais_backyard_projects Very big, haha! They are very spiky also, when you hit your head on it you sure do know about it!

Beautiful garden. Very inspiring for my own
Its absolutely stunning, but the lost gardens of Helligan in cornwall is my favourite. Unfortunately I only had rubbish footage, but I am sure there are some other youtube videos on it.
@@GrowTropicalMK Thank you. I will look
I love MK! I had the same and possible worse with the recent rains🥵
Nice patio! What kind of lawn grass do you have? Thanks.
@Palmguy24 hiya and thanks. Although I am no expert i believe it is nothing special, just bog standard uk grass. Apart from in the shaded areas I have over seeded with shade grass seed. One thing I do know about grass is to never use speedy seed, yes it establishes fast, but you have to cut twice as often!
You should absolutely create a pond with a short stream !
It makes sense as it is solid clay, I don't even think I would need a lining. Only in the heat of the summer would it completely dry up. Thanks for watching
Oh God, I've got this problem too (in the exact same place 😕) Plus the gutter next to my roof needs a good cleaning. I brace myself every time it rains hard 😢
I also dug deep under the raised bed and put plenty of gravel. I will keep monitoring the situation, but looks to be an improvement so far. Thanks for watching
Thanks for sharing :) I'll do the same tomorrow if/when it stops raining 😅. Doesn't the stagnant water attract mosquitoes?
The water will clear from that gulley after a few days of non rain as it does gradually seep into the ground. I'm not sure if it would go stagnant in a pond, though. Thanks for the insight! I will be researching this before I embark on a pond project 😊
You have made the perfect little stream 😊
Haha my own little moat around my tropical island 😊
I tried this a few weeks ago and found they root so easily !
Crazy rooters ! Thanks for watching
2:02 is the money shot boss😊
Love that boss! 😊
Yes bosssss! Nice vid, taking some scary cuts right there, although the end result should be sweet as. Nice to see it raining in MK finally!
It is painful to do, knowing that it is going to take 1-2 years to look great again. It did rain, but for only 5 minutes ! Hopefully, there will be a downpour tonight.
Nice boss, next time youre down this way you wanna document one of the great gardens of Cornwall
@TheCornishCottageGarden-bs5lf hell yeah. It was such a pity that all my helligan footage was bad. I definitely want to go there again.
