Sabian Quiet Tone Cymbals Sound Levels
Sabian Quiet Tone Cymbals: amzn.to/3GVMcCF #ad

In this video we are demonstrating the sound and volume levels of an acoustic drum kit outfitted with Sabian Quiet Tone Cymbals along with drum heads. We compare with a traditional drum kit so that you can hear the difference in sound and volume.
We have a decibel meter set up in front of the kit to show sound pressure levels of the full kits and individual sounds around the kit.
We are using a Glyn Johns mic setup, with condenser mics roughly 46 inches above and to the side of the snare drum. We also included a snare mic, a kick drum mic and a room mic in the mix.
Volume levels of the mics are left the same for the first part that compares the two kits, and then we bring the mic levels up for the final part to demo each of the low volume drums and cymbals around the kit.

    They say the volume reduction is 80%… it seems 10% according to your db analyzer😅

    I love all your reviews. These videos deserve more views and subscribers.

    What kind of mic/recording system is needed for low volume solutions?

    Could you recommend which one is more suitable for drum set practice? between Vic firth single sided pad and Evans double sided drum pad.

    • @DrumSilent-ce8ob
      @DrumSilent-ce8ob 2 місяці тому

      I'd recommend a double sided pad if you're choosing between single or double sided, it's nice to have a couple different types of surfaces to switch between that give you different feedback and rebound with the sticks.

    youre supposed to remove the resonant head from the snare for the db one i believe. Very good video though amazing comparison!

      I’m not sure. The resonant heads provide the tones for each one

    Are the silentstroke heads a good match with the db one cymbals volume wise? Never come across a review with those 2 put together.

    • @DrumSilent-ce8ob
      @DrumSilent-ce8ob 3 місяці тому

      Yep I think they're a good match, pretty much any mesh drum head should match well with the quieter low volume cymbals like the dB One, L80 or Quiet Tone, etc.

    You are helping me decide I want zeros! I want to play quiet without losing tone and volume. I’m thinking zeros because I saw this video where this drummer put a vinyl patch on the head for volume. ua-cam.com/video/qxDz0IjSipc/v-deo.htmlsi=rD_KJFvBFgFbvsv4

    If i put the drums on the living room can i have decent jam session with a piano? I mean using normal heads will definitely be too loud for the piano.. Or, will they be too quiet?

    • @DrumSilent-ce8ob
      @DrumSilent-ce8ob 3 місяці тому

      Yep I think lv cymbals and mesh heads would be a good combo for playing with a piano in a small space like a living room. If the snare feels too quiet with a mesh head you could try stretching a bandana or some cloth over a normal head to muffle it.

    Huge difference. Important to note that the SLM dB readout is nonlinear. Therefore, a (e.g.) 10 dB SPL difference represents a 100X perceived difference. Thank you.

    how did you tune the snare here? mine just sounds horrible and raspy

    • @DrumSilent-ce8ob

      I tightened up the snare wires on the bottom quite a bit more than normal while I had the mesh head on the snare, otherwise it sounded pretty sloppy.

    So Remos are quieter. Which feels the most like regular acoustic drum heads?

    • @DrumSilent-ce8ob
      @DrumSilent-ce8ob 6 місяців тому

      Feel-wise they are both pretty similar to me, slightly bouncy depending on tension. The small patch in the middle of the dB One tom heads feels a little more like a traditional drum head if you center your strikes on it, but it's a small target.

    I wonder how a 14" Evans dB ONE tom head would sound as a low-volume snare head? I think the dB one Snare head sounds like trash

    • @DrumSilent-ce8ob
      @DrumSilent-ce8ob 8 місяців тому

      I agree, I think using the snare wires on the snare drum sounds better. I suppose the idea is that the dB One snare head is more quiet than the snare wires. I think any low volume head with snare wires active sounds a little better on the snare.
