Welcome to Gaming Alchemy! This is a channel focused on everything board games, especially board games with miniatures and very thematic themes, but I do love all board games so we will take about all kinds. You will see top 10 lists, board game reviews, miniature painting showcases that I have painted over the years to name a few. I tend to gravitate towards the dungeon crawler, exploration and adventuring type of board games but love seeing euro mechanics in thematic board gaming as well. Board games are incredibly fun and I want to share and spread that love of the hobby with others. Thanks for watching!

Nice work - So love this game but havent played in years; probably pull it back out once the new egyptian stuff arrives :)
Yeah I'm excited for Egyptian expansion too, it looks like a lot of fun!
what's ethnos gotta to do with anything?
I mention it in my #10-6 video, and I put it on the thumbnail of this video just so I wouldn't spoil everything 😅
Nice list, good job. I always have a hard time getting someone geeky enough to play with. Firefly is the number one I want to play again. Also Silent Death, Panzer Blitz, Blood Royal and War of the Ring.
I've heard good things about Firefly, and War of the Ring is amazing, it us very tough to get to the table at times but when it does it is some of the best experiences in board gaming I've had. Thanks for watching!
Very helpful, thanks for the overview!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching
Neeeeeeeeeeerrrrd
And proud of it!
I have a copy of FFG Fury of Dracula. It’s in good shape. My son an I only played it once or twice.
How did you like it? Worth holding onto?
I appreciate the review after you completed the campaign. Thanks man
No problem, thanks for watching
Man, i miss old school ffg.. nice list. I would have added warhammer quest card game. Ps try dragon down game, i have a hunch that you might love it
Thanks, I'll check those ones out!
Why the brushed white? also is this method a time saver?
Yes, it's a time saver for sure, basically I prime my mini's in black, then dry brush them white, and then use Citadel contrast paints and Arny Painter speed paints that fill in the color and shading in one step. And these mini's are the result, it probably takes around an hour per mini, maybe only 1/2 per mini for some depending on how many different colors you have to use.
Yo kai watch reference
Thanks for watching, means a lot
Clean
Thanks for watching!
Excellent review! How does it compare to The Fall of Avalon though? Is it for someone who owns the first?
Hey, thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it. I haven't actually played the first one, this was my first experience with the Tainted Grail universe as I backed it on Gamefound when it was being crowdfunded. From the research I did, it sounds like they fixed a few things from the first game that people complained about, but it sounded like the first Tainted Grail was really good and well received also. I kinda want to play through that one now too. You don't need to have played the first one to understand what's going on in this one, they are completely standalone games. Hope that helps!
@@GamingAlchemyBoardGames Thank you for your input! I own the first one with all available campaigns and have loved it since day one. My main concern is whether KOR would enhance the original experience or if it’s essentially the same game with a fresh coat of paint and a different timeline/story.
Great review! What next game will you play ? :)
Thanks for watching! I'm currently playing through Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood of Venice, I'm about half way through it
@GamingAlchemyBoardGames nice :) really looking forward for next review.
When I first was getting into board games a good few years back Fantasy Flight had a number of excellent titles. Often money pits with there expansions though. I still look LOTR LCG. I had Gears of War for years too before eventually selling on. It was a great game and was one of the first I got so was a great intro to what modern games were about.
I used to own the LOTR LCG as well, it was a great game, but very difficult, I found it hard to find people to play it with me as well
Solid list! I own or have owned all of them at some point. I do have slight regrets about getting rid of the ones I did, but there are always hard casualties in the war for shelf space😢
Thanks for watching! Yes, so many games, so little shelf space
Great job, very thorough review
Thanks for watching
Really great review, this game looks like it would be a lot of fun
Thanks for checking out the review
Great review! Thanks!
Thank you, it was fun to make
Nice list. I actually own six of them. They’re great games.
That's awesome
I came here to invite him over.... I am at 7 IIRC
Nice list ! I think your not an eurogamer 🙂
I know it would appear that way for sure after watching this video, but I do still love euro games as well, I just tend to desire to play more thematic games and a lot of euros can be fairly dry as far as theme goes
If you end up looking for a copy, you 100% should care about which edition of Fury of Dracula. Go for 3rd or 4th. The updated mechanics turned a good game into a great one.
Thanks for the tip!
Fun list! Whereabouts in Canada are you Kevin?
Thanks! I am in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
One of my worst boardgaming regrets is not getting everything for Battlelore 2nd edition when it went on clearance. I hate that FFG has almost completely abandoned the Terrinoth games. And only allowing Unbreakable Bonds for Runebound to be in production for just a few months should've been an actual crime.
I completely agree, the used prices on unbreakable bonds are ridiculous. Luckily I have a friend that bought it right when it came out and we've been enjoying it ever since. I think Fantasy Flight could make a ton of money just re-printing a lot of these beloved games, but now that they're owned by Asmodee I doubt that will ever happen unfortunately
Chaos in the Old World is one that I would like to try one day. You have many games on this list that I would also like to play. I do own some of them - finding willing players is a challenge.
Finding the right people to play these with can definitely be a challenge sometimes for sure
I’m fortunate to have half of those games (Nos 7, 5, 4, 2 and 1) and I’ve also played 9 and 6. FFG and GW did some great board games in the past…
I agree, I love that era of board games
Lucky enough to have gotten Gears of war and the print on demand expansion back when it first came out. Definitely fun. A little bit of a chore to setup though.
I hear it's a very challenging game as well, glad you get to enjoy it!
These are all great games. Only have three of them and would love to try the rest of the titles on your list. If you like Warhammer Quest you should look at League of Dungeoners the second printing just wrapped up delivery and I think he has plans to make it available at retail. Would guess another crowdfunded run will happen soon too. It's very old school feeling but with modern polish. Great for solo.
Yeah League of Dungeoneers does look pretty good, I was close to backing that one the last time it was on crowdfunding but never did
Got 9 of the 10 games. Great list :-) Maybe Battlestar Galactica (also from FFG) is something you would like.
That's cool, our taste in games is probably pretty similar then. I have played Battlestar Galactica many years ago but it's been so long I don't remember much, but I should play that one again as well. Thanks for the comment!
Your taste definitely leans toward expensive hard to find games! (I subscribed). As for in-print stuff, I love Shadows of Brimstone, and I cover painting it on my channel every so often.
I actually recently just bought Forbidden fortress and the temple of shadows expansion and am currently in the process of painting them as well. I did a few playthroughs before I started painting them and I absolutely love the game! Now it's making me want to get more expansions for it, which is a huge money pit, haha!
Runewars Board Game is my favourite fantasy battle game. I prefer it to TI4 because: 1) plays great at 2-4p 2) more combats 3) more interesting combat system 4) almost minimal negotiations (they double the length of TI4, negotiating over EVERYTHING!) I dont mind the Hero phase, it can be done quickly, and with the revised rules, the Heroes can be commanders for armies and be involved in the "main" game too. Great list BTW. FFG made some amazing board games, and still do (eg unfathomable)... but lot less sadly. Regards, Salman
Yeah I'm not the biggest fan of negotiation in games, so I think that's another reason why I would really enjoy Runewars, that being said, I would also love to try Twilight Imperium sometime too. Haven't had a chance to play that one either yet, but want to at least once in my life. Thanks for the comment!
Old Fantasy flight games=Best games ever created!!!
Exactly!
Ugh. There were two maybe three different games on this list. 1. Fury of Dracula 2. Minis on a map fighting. (Queen's Gambit might be a little different) It's your list. Good pictures and video. I agree with your take on luck.
Yeah I know these games aren't everyone's cup of tea, but I really like these dudes on a map, 4x style games with lots of theme. I don't know if I'd need to own them all, but I do want to try them all at least once. Thanks for watching!
Playing Rune wars tomorrow, it's never the same strategy to win, and there is always a "holy Sh*t" moment. Like when your opponent now has a dragon allied.
Sweet, I am jealous that you get to play Runewars tomorrow, good luck!
Hope you get to play them. Not a single game on there I would want to play
Thanks for watching!
Interesting list, lots of cool looking games and oldschool art which I love.
Yes, I agree, love that 2000's era board game art
Fury of Dracula is out of print? I don't think you're missing much. Letters from Whitechapel was more exciting.
Thanks, I'll have to check that one out as well!
I own literally everything for for Battlelore 2nd Edition, and I JUST found Runewars Revised new in box at a game store that's going out of business. I absolutely loved the final wave of Terrinoth games (BL2E, Runewars, Descent 2E, etc) and one day I'm going to make someone on ebay very happy when I break down and buy Runebound 3E.
Yeah I love the world of Terrinoth they created. It's too bad they don't really utilize it at all anymore, I played a lot of Descent back in the day, so many good memories! I still play Runbound 3rd edition and it is great, especially with the unbreakable bonds expansion which added co-op play.
I had Fury of Dracula 4th Edition, but didn't open it because of the lockdown and when I finally did I see if was misprinted and I missed the window for them to ship me the stickers and fixed deck of cards. Really hoping they come out with a 5th edition or something soon. I was close to buying Forbidden Stars but the guy stopped responding, so I used the money on something else. sucks because I really wanna play it
That's too bad about Fury of Dracula, that would be very disappointing for sure. I might have to break down and buy Forbidden Stars some day as well.
I passed on a chance to pick up the queen's gambit in 2013. It still haunts me.
Haha! I bet it does. I feel your pain and loss.
I love your video. For me, the golden age of board games was from 2005 to 2018 because the artwork and design were so appealing. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but there seems to be a healthy balance of design, theme, strategy, and luck in these games that makes them enjoyable and relaxing to play. This contrasts with modern board games, which often feature cartoonish or computer-generated artwork and a billion things to keep track of. This is highly opinionated of course, but I’m glad to see others valuing these older OOP games.
Yeah I completely agree with you, there's just something about them that I gravitate towards, glad you liked the video!
FYI Queens Gamit was remade into Star Wars Risk which is oop but easy to pick up, and pretty fun!
Yeah that's right, I have played Star Wars Risk actually and I really enjoyed it, much better than I thought it would be! It's been a while since I've played it, but ever since then I've always wanted to try the game that it was based on. Thanks for the comment!
Not quite the same but pretty good imo. Love QG though.
Interesting that they're mostly FFG. I'm only a fan of their card games, having played most of these games. The only games I've kept in my collection are "chaos in the old world" and "Space hulk".
Thanks for the reply, yeah Fantasy Flight was in their old school prime when I started in the board game hobby around 10-12 years ago, so maybe I'm just being a bit too nostalgic, haha!
They made a lot of licensed games and licenses are only temporary.
You never have to apologize for loving to play Ameritrash games. Euros are no better or worse. They're just a different breed of game. Glad we have both kinds to play.
Yes I agree, thanks for that! I enjoy all types of board games and I don't think we should ever divide over preferences, let's just all enjoy games together!
