Visiting Sandend Beach and Findlater Castle!
Переглядів 2110 місяців тому
We had a great walk along the beach at Sandend, and Monty had a dip in the Moray Firth. We then made the short journey along to Findlater Castle. It can be quite deceiving that there is even a castle within the cliff, but it is such a historic place to visit! #sandend #findlatercastle #visitscotland
Walk around The Bin Forest, Aberdeenshire!
Переглядів 2910 місяців тому
Monty and I had a great walk around The Bin Forest, near Huntly. We did the yellow walk named 'Gallon of Water Trail' The Bin features some magnificent grand firs. Some date back to the 1840s and are among the oldest in the country. The ‘Gallon of Water’ is a shallow pool at the top of Bin Hill. People used to believe its waters had healing powers - it was particularly well known as a cure for ...
Monty and I visited Dunnideer Castle!
Переглядів 12510 місяців тому
Today, Monty and I made the short journey over to the town on Insch. We climbed up the Hill of Dunnideer which on top, sits the now ruined Dunnideer Castle. Said to be built around the 13th century (depending on where you get the information from), it is now a ruined Tower House. It's possible to get some great views at the top, including of Bennachie, Tap o' Noth and Insch itself. #visitscotla...
Our first ever time up Tap o' Noth!
Переглядів 3910 місяців тому
Tap o' Noth is located a mile from the village of Rhynie, Aberdeenshire. Monty and I enjoyed going up there for the first ever time. The hill is a 563 metre climb and around a 5km walk from the car park to the top and back down. The weather was great and the views from the top were spectacular. It's definitely worth getting up there on a clear day! #taponoth #rhynie #Aberdeenshire #Scotland #Sc...
An explore around Leith Hall and a look at the Walled Garden in the rain!
Переглядів 1510 місяців тому
Today's adventure brought Monty and I to Leith Hall by Kennethmont, Aberdeenshire. Leith Hall was built in 1650 and has played a part in Scottish history since then. Generations of the Leith-Hay family have lived there until just after World War II. The family donated the house to the National Trust for Scotland along with all the contents within it. We had a walk to the Dule Tree (or Hanging T...
Climb up Knock Hill with Monty and me!
Переглядів 811 місяців тому
Monty dragged me up the 430 metres of Knock Hill, where it was much steeper than I had expected. The path is very uneven and narrow but the views were great (eventually!) The rain and clouds gathered as we reached the Trig Point where we both got soaked. We started to head down the hill but as we were doing that, the rain stopped and some of the clouds cleared up. This gave us views of the Nort...
Castle Hotel walk with Monty!
Переглядів 2811 місяців тому
One of the most popular walking routes in Huntly has re-opened. Monty and I went round it to have a look! The Castle Hotel has been around since the mid 18th century and has been used as a hotel since 1946 with 11 acres of ground. It was sold for around 1.25 million back in 2021 and is still undergoing major refurbishment inside and outside since. #Scotland #castlehotel #Scotlandhotel #huntly #...
A walk through Cullen and up to Bow Fiddle Rock!
Переглядів 7411 місяців тому
We took the drive up to Cullen to have a walk to it's harbour. Along the coast-line up to Bow Fiddle Rock by Portknockie then back along the Viaduct into Cullen. Cullen has a special place in my heart, having spend so many holidays there at all times of the year. I love going back and this was Monty's first walk to Bow Fiddle Rock. Bow Fiddle Rock is a natural sea arch and is named due to it lo...
Clashmach Hill walk with Monty!
Переглядів 2111 місяців тому
Monty and I climbed up Clashmach Hill where we got great views of Huntly. The rain came on yet again but we mostly stayed dry! The climb up the hill is 374 metres, with a walk from the car park it was almost 6km to the top and back down again. It took us just over 1 hour but it could be done much quicker or slower depending on the weather or just how much you want to explore! More information o...
Walk around (sort of) Battlehill in Huntly, Aberdeenshire!
Переглядів 53Рік тому
Monty and I visited The Battlehill, but the walk did not go as planned due to a mixture of the weather and fallen trees. It's a local walk to us, so luckily it wasn't a long drive home! We ended up turning around to get a hill top view over the town of Huntly instead! "Battlehill" is believed to have given it's name from a skirmish from around the fourteenth century between the Gordons and the ...
A walk around the abandoned outdoor swimming pool at Tarlair and quick visit to Banff!
Переглядів 299Рік тому
Today, Monty and I went for an adventure and walk around Tarlair Outdoor Swimming Pool near Macduff in Aberdeenshire. The swimming pool was operational from 1931 through to 1995 and is now undergoing major refurbishment to hopefully restore it to it's former glory. We had a great time and will definitely return to check on progress in the future! To donate to the refurbishment, please visit fri...

Thanks for sharing the walk around old "Huntly Lodge". I am reading the "Life of the last Duchess of Gordon" who lived there when she married the Duke and later for nearly three decades after his death in 1836. A charming lady. I'd like to visit there with my wife when it is open again.

That is interesting and there’s lots of history surrounding both Huntly Castle and the hotel itself. The hotel is still undergoing the refurb and no date for when it’ll re-open but hopefully you’ll be able to visit when it does!

I've just seen Tarlair swimming pool on abandoned engineering, and I searched the Internet to see if it was being restored, and found your excellent video. Monty is a star looked liked he had great fun investigating the area. Thanks for taking the trouble to film the pool.

Thank you so much! It’s a really interesting place and I’m glad that the pavilion is getting restored, hopefully the pool will open in future years. Monty is a great dog and I think he liked his trip to Tarlair 😃

Very nice video, well done :) Great to see the old photos too. If you'd kept walking over the corner of the golf course there's a lovely secluded little beach. Can't remember the name :(
