ROBERT FRIPP ZEN AND THE ART OF GUITAR PLAYING .
Great "Real-life" story, I can almost see Randy and Jimi playing like in a Movie. This is the stuff you just can't learn in " Music Academy"...get out there and play in the street if you have to..and go to school...if you get the opportunity don't let it slip away.
And by the way. who are you to say Martin under-reported his role in JethroTull? I think the raw evidence of Martin's own opinion has to be respected. In a way you are calling Martin a liar, and insulting by saying he is not as good as you thought he was. I was hopeful about Martin. I listened to his solos and bought his records, but they all fail in some regard to have that something special that a really great artist has. Martin is the supreme technician, and yet somehow when places near Ian somehow people think he is not enough. The illogic behind Martins image is ridiculous. What an amazing talent and amazing life - why do you feel the need to dissect it though Ian Anderson's music?
I was at Martins first gig for Tull and if you scroll thru the channels videos you will see many references to the superb guitar playing of Mr Barre .
@@classicrockalbumreviews19 So, you are biased by sentiment then compared to most people. It's cool to have been a part of music history, congratulations. I am saying nothing about Martin's playing other than he is the best. Martin's playing is like any of the best guitarists, like Jeff Beck or Eric Clapton ... but he has much more creativity, style and inventiveness ... well maybe not more than Beck, but he's played in as many or more historic albums as far as I am concerned. I always liked Martin's unassuming style and ability to play to fit into any music and add something unique. I'm just saying that he did fit perfectly into Jethro Tull and maybe the biggest shame is that he is wasted in this garbage band and would be brilliantly employed in Tull. I have no idea why the two are not playing together any more. It's shame but I also like Florian's playing a lot, and same with Joe Parrish-James. I don't know what Martin would have sounded like on recent albums and I don't like comparisons or competitions - I just know I can trust Ian to make great music still, and that is nothing against Martin.
@ no not sentimentality. I’ve seen Martin play with Tull many times and he has always been one of my favourite guitarists . I think his playing on A Passion Play is among the finest playing of all time .
WTF ... I can understand whining .... I've done so myself on occasion, but with Tull what is the point? There is no point - he does what he does and youo accept it or not. I think most people don't even understand what they are doing or saying and they just want to pretend they are important not try to add anything to the conversation. If you don't like Ian's voice, don't subject yourself to his singing. On records Ian uses his voice very carefully in creative and artistic ways and you can't really fault that. Of course Jethro Tull is Jethro Tull, there is a continuous style and production and originality - and it comes from and follows Ian Anderson. Not Martin Barre. It just doesn't. It happened. I know I agree with you, but maybe it hit me differently over time. I was a teenager when i first heard Tull on the radio - so to me that was the band, Ian, Martin, Glenn and Clive. I did not follow the members of the band, so I even had this feeling in reverse when I found out it was not Martin Barre on This Was. Then I realizd there was Barriemore Barlow and John Evan. As newer albums came out there were others, and when I started going to concerts even more others. The idea of Jethro Tull was a marketing illusion, and a fantasy illusion in my head. Tull is a band if you accept it as a band. It seems obvious to me. They are an organization that performs music. What are you raiving about Bud?
jethro tull were good especially live the rest of that stuff is unlistenable and i grew up in that era there was so much great bands at that time there was no time to listen to this weird stuff none stood the test of time even jt
If you have a first pressing. It states Peter playing bass brum.
virtual reality shows say to led zeppelin , take a chance on me

I know the Hornsey road tavern, I was there too, went with my older brother, no longer with us, sadly, he’d never been to a concert, so it was an eye opener, god bless you Kevin , miss you every day

@@jamesblanshard9468 there’s a review of Blows against the Empire on the channel buddy .
Robin is the greatest electric guitarist I've ever seen and heard.....
I agree i was there on the 11th was slightly dissapointing not a memorable performance but enjoyed the crack with my mates
Man, the tone that you're getting in this video is exactly like what Jason Newsted had on .....and Justice for All! 😎 I have the same one and it has traveled the world with me. In fact, I'm considering taking it on a European/African tour that I have coming up. People think that these are kids basses, but they sound and play incredibly good.
The story of Van Halen's technique starts with another Californian by the name of Terry Kilgore that took lessons from Harvey Mandel. Eddie got lessons like everybody else and developed a technique. The story of VanHalen is a messed up one with him always saying he learned by listening to Clapton only.
seen Robin at el Rey theatre, few feet away sippin whiskey and coke, '87, '88 time frame, again at HOB's Dallas, when Bridge of Sigh's hit the airwaves I was 15, it floored me... to this day his tone and feel playing guitar is a treasure...
Robin is still a great player
Randy California - Champion and Legend RIP
Great to listen to this! A chap in the local record shop had turned me on to Spirit, and lent me copies of Dark Star magazine. When he mentioned that Spirit were playing in London, it was a no brainer that a bunch of us would be going along. I could nt believe that we would actually get to see this legendary band. And it was an amazing performance. I always thought the record release of the show sounded like a completely different gig. Now I know why! Can't wait to listen to the sound desk mix. Off to do that next. All best.
I've heard the isolated Bass and Drum stems from TSRTS and the playing from John Paul Jones and John Bonham is out of this world. As a rhythm section John Paul Jones and John Bonham could stand against anyone.
Aye, the laddie could play a bit.
A fantastic album! Super happy to see them team up!
May see "77" Pontiac Silverdome or last tour over Europe 1980 being filmed under the table without any of us knowing about it?
JPJ was the best musician in the band.
Your Time is Gonna Come.
EVEN THOUGH A LONG PLAYER. LIKE TTHICK AS A BRICK. ITS A CLASSIC TULL ALBUM. LISTEN TO THAT ALBUM ALL THE TIME. GREAT SECTIONS. ON THAT LP. GREAT GUITAR RIFFS. THE HARE THAT LOST ITS SPECETALES. IS FUNNY. ESPECIALLY THE FILM CLIP. BUT ITS REALLY MUSOS MUSOS ALBUM. UNLESS . YOU LIKE THERE MUSIC. YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOUR MISSING. AND THE WISE MEN DONT KNOW. HOW IT FEELS. TO BE THICK AS A BRICK. CHEERS
The music critics, even at Rolling Stone, had NO influence with us rock fans in the USA in the 70s. I can’t remember even READING an album review at the time, let alone taking a critic’s opinion to heart. Maybe America being relatively illiterate, was a good thing in this case. Too bad Ian was affected by them, and didn’t trust the US fan reaction to APP.
It’s only about money, the retainer plus percentage of sales/distribution.
Awesome video have a wonderful day ❤😊
I LUV JPJ!!!
He was an athlete on the drums.
GREAT STUFF.!!! JAMES EAGLE.
Wonderful album! Not really a fan of “How Many Times” or “Later” but the rest is great!
When and where??!! I'm thrilled!❤🤘😁
All of his work was epically great, but Heavy Horses gets my vote as the best rock drumming album of all time; I'd put it up against any great rock drumming album anyone can name (I'm looking at you Aja). Despite it's technical mastery, he never sounds mechanical and keeps his drumming sounding organic and alive. He's not only my favorite drummer, but he's my favorite musician. Period.
Great insight and thoughts.....This is always an album I go back to whenever in doubt of what to listen to when I have 40 minutes of time.
Passion Play..!!!!.best album , and Barry is just fantastic..
The MC5 is the best of rock n roll! Lust, energi and Music
Percussionist extraordinaire!
Are there any videos or recordings where Jonesy is playing a regular 6-string electric guitar?
Unfortunately no
I hate the music press with a fervent heart. These crap-bucket critics just have a big mouth and an inflated narcisstic ego. They love to exercise power, but understand absolutely nothing about music. I blame them for ruining 70's prog rock and pushing some of the greatest bands in history to play boring junk pop music instead.
Music critics are former failed musiscians and they are generaly haters ...
How can you be a choir master at the age of 14? Crazy confidence and talented.
The intro to "Your Time Is Gonna Come" was my introduction to John's musical talent, way back, when I was school. It still remains one of my favourite intro's to a Zep track.
I would love to see it 👍
I saw this tour in 1972. Absolutely the best concert imaginable. You had to be there.
Grand Funk Railroad and Randy California Libelous BALD HEAD DADDY DRUMMER I met them in HOUSTON TEXAS when I was 16 Years Old !(^* I owned a 1947 1947 Indian Chief Motorcycle . In those days Cops didn't giva damn if a 17 years old kid rode from Benton Arkansas to Houston Texas to see Johnny Winters & Bandey Calafornia's Daddy Balded Head the Sam as my Daddy who was still in Prison since 1949, He got out in 1978 and tried to ride my Indian Chief and Fell Off, LOL I had to get Parts from Sam The Indian guy in California, Whitter? Concard boluvard. I was 5foot and tall weight 12ve years old.
Absolutely fantastic have a wonderful day ❤😊
Absolutely love the first two songs on this one
Great review. 👍 Imagine discovering Franks music 12 years ago... that's what happened to me. It has been like unwrapping the best Christmas present every day since. Then, the release of the DVD/Blu-ray Live At The Agora a few years later. Ha! My list today (18 June 2024) 1. Mahogany Rush IV 2. World Anthem 3. Strange Universe 4. Juggernaut 5. Child Of The Novelty
