C2 Corvette
So 5 years after the first start up of the engine, the Vette is now finally assembled and on its wheels. This is where the 377 cu in stroked 350 (yes, virgin block) went. Engine is pulling exactly as I wanted with absolutely no hesitation from as low as 1500-1600 rpm.
A 4 wheel alignment and modifying a hood to be able to keep the Air Gap intake and 1/2" spacer are the 2 issues left before taking it out on the road for serious testing.

SBC 383 Street Engine
Переглядів 622 роки тому
This engine was built to go into a C3 Corvette with 4 speed factory manual transmission. The objective was good mid range torque with a fairly strong top end. The engine spec is very similar to my earlier 377 cu. in. build however for this one we used a seasoned 4.030" bore block paired with a 3.75" stroke crank, import heads, Air Gap intake and AED carb. As you may notice from fluctuating acce...

Once in a while you have to step outside your comfort zone! As I have been building quite many Chevy engines now as they are the most common foundation in marine engines and it has also been easy to build them as street engines as well this Mopar build was new grounds to me. I assembled this engine a while ago with my choice of pistons/compression and cam. Intake and import heads where already ...
383 SBC Marine Engine

This engine was brought in after one season of poor performance. The original builder was convinced it was good enough even though it struggled to get on plane and lacked the torque to reach top speed without hesitation so it needed some modifications for better drivability. The foundation is a 3.75" stroke 4.030" bore SBC with dished hypereutectic pistons which was upgraded with unmolested vir...
MerCruiser HP420

This engine did certainly look sad when it arrived to me! After a complete rebuild and some small upgrades it both looked and performed better than before. For those who don't know, the MerCruiser HP420 was a late 80's step in model in the MerCruiser High Performance program. Those engines were refined at different levels - the HP420 for example had a forged GM crank, GM-TRW small dome "HO" pis...
MerCruiser 502 Whipple - the final test!
Переглядів 6423 роки тому
Time for the truth! We were struggling a bit to keep cooling water at temp so we did a lot of the tuning with intercooler not hooked up. On the final run we hooked it up on a garden hose to keep control of IAT and that rewarded us with 791 Clb-ft at 3600 rpm and 681 CHp at 5100 rpm. Not too bad from a stock bottom end flat tappet engine with a small 2.3 liter Whipple :)

A Gen V MerCruiser 502 Mpi converted with a Whipple 2.3 liter twin screw, intercooler, refreshed heads, Ferrea valves, Lunati cam and steel roller rockers. ECM is MEFI-3 for stock reliability and functionality. So far steady state testing from 2500 rpm in 500 rpm intervals with different loads. Final acceleration pulls with peak torque and hp to come 🙂

A Gen V Mercruiser 502 MPI converted with a HP500 EFI Whipple kit, Lunati cam, heads redone with Ferrea 2.25"/1.88", Mefi 3 controller. Had some problems with a faulty wide band O2 sensor but after replacing it things started to sort out and the engine runs as good as I want before going to the dyno. Right now sitting and waiting for a slot at the dyno guy, hope to be there soon :)

Small hydroplane boat with a Volvo B20 (engine can be seen in the other videos). This was some years ago but still a fun project to build that engine that had to pull from start and up to top speed. Prop shaft was directly connected to the crank, no idling in neutral possible. Unfortunately the tach seems to flip out over 3500 rpm, probably due to the ignition system pulse width. It seems to sh...

No, only Vortec valve covers. This engine was a real odd ball as it was an early -85 production with split rear main seal. Never seen that before on a 4.3 😳

However I do remember some details: block bored to 92 mm, decked the block to zero piston height, H-profile rods, JE pistons, cylinder head was of course ported but I have no flow numbers, carbs are 2 x Weber 45 DCOE, cam was 296° duration in/ex with 12.0 mm lift. Oiling system was Auto Verdi dry sump and ignition was the electronic 123 Ignition.

I believe I used a XE268H. I think your heads will be the bottle neck as they flow just shy over 200 cfm at .400-.600" lift. Can be compensated with more cam of course but you'll sacrifice mid rpm torq. The heads I used flows a bit over 240 cfm at .500" where I ended up with 1.6 rockers. I also started out with a 650 carb but it showed a little too much vacuum at max rpm so the 750 was the final decision.

    • @7REDDRACO7
      @7REDDRACO7 5 років тому

thanks iwas thinking that was the case. the heads are trash really. yeah ineed to rebuild it right away it doesn't run like it deserves, going with a dart block ,long rod, some bare full cnc pro maxx 225cc (247cc) heads, XFI292HR cam, crosslink roller lifters, and with around 10.5to1 or 11 to 1 static with ported heads, chamber at 67 or 68cc actual, after some more unshrouding. fabricated intake. 750 cfm. imay add liquid epoxy on sidewalls of runners and raise the roof to reduce some cc and keep some. then its going in a little street package wide body pro tourer 1981 camaro and sold to someone hopefully. 40gal. fuel tank. custom 8 speed automatic transmission idesigned. after isell this, iwant to build my prototype supercar with my proprietary propulsion system idesigned. 1million watts. however car is sitting has been for 7 years, its a painted silver soda blasted roller with 355 th350 right now. thinking we can go straight to the 1M watts drive system and 8 speed. and get this thing started what do ya say? we'll be in business if we implement it. (oh, its a non recharge system) pm me.

On this B20 I used my normal V8 strategies such as tight quench and good dynamic compression and it turned out very good. This engine could have been very nice in a car with its good bottom end.
