Thank you gentleman, I am going to copy your machine. I have four wild cotton trees(plants) in my agricultural land. My wife is struggling with these cotton seeds. As Hindu religious people we make lamp wicks only with wild cotton by hand. Love and respect from India for a great idea of simplicity easy to build machine to extract seeds from cotton. Thank you once again. For your information, I am a manual machinist and welder by profession.
G'day Ravikanthyella, and thank you for your interest and very kind comments. The machine really is as simple as it appears, the lower roller is wooden as you can see so that the cotton clings to it and the top roller is steel and simply driven by the friction with the bottom roller. I made a little "tension adjuster" at both ends of the rollers to tighten the friction as required. I needed to make a little wiper blade to peel the cotton fibers from the wooden roller once it had been between both rollers, I made it from some 1mm thick poly-carbonate sheet, you may need to experiment with it a bit to get it just right but the whole little machine really doe's work consistently just as you have seen in the video. Let me know how yours turns out! Best wishes, Greg
Do you sell those? I’m looking to get a cotton gin. It’s hard to find one.
A marvelous clock
This is a wonderful video. Quality information and the most beautiful clock. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for your kind comments, best wishes from Australia.
Is my dream to have one They are so expensive
G'day persempre, thank you for your interest, this was fun to make, I designed it myself so I have no drawings but please feel free to use the ideas from my video. You never know what you can make until you try. Good luck with it, best wishes, G. May
Here is a shot in the dark chance you will see this…… do you make these gins for resale? Or do you sell the plans to make my own? I am growing Acadian Brown cotton and spend eternity hand picking out the seeds, would love to make one but I can quite sort out the way you constructed the brackets and how the screws might add pressure?
G'day teacat55, thanks for your interest in the gin. It doe's really work as simply as seen in the video. It was my first attempt at such a device and perhaps I simply got lucky. I have no drawings for the unit and it was a "one off" for my daughter who grows and spins cotton etc. The top steel roller is driven by contact with the larger wooden hand cranked roller below. The screws simply allow increasing pressure between the two rollers until the desired separation of fiber and seeds occurs. Please feel free to copy the design and I wish you well with your project. Cheers, GM
@@gregmay990 thank you for the swift reply and permission. May I ask a further question concerning the pipe fasteners, specifically the one with the steel roller? I see one screw on the top holding the pipe roller in place but can't see if the bottom hole has a screw going into the wood. If it does, how can the roller be cranked downward?
Very impressive. Cats are such thorough textile inspectors, aren’t they?
I Want to buy it
Lucky daugter! Stunning work 👏
Wonderfull. So tiny video... :/
Fine art - akin to a Steinway concert grand piano. I compliment your joinery skill, all seams and joints air-tight - without filler. Glass doors are not for beginners.
Magnificent ! I noticed that you also have an operational grasshopper mechanism in development.
Yes the grass hopper is probably my favorite escapement, the finished clock is here ua-cam.com/video/IlnHjgLaqh0/v-deo.html Another that might interest you is the medieval escapement here ua-cam.com/video/LyoH3juUSdo/v-deo.html Thanks for your interest, Greg
I was researching pinwheel escapements and found this. Sir, your craftsmanship is astounding.
Well thank you for your interest and kind comments, I have a little video of the finished clock here ua-cam.com/video/sleHpUP7ZeU/v-deo.html Best wishes, Greg
Are you selling this machine?
G'day Vincent, sorry but the machine is a "once only gift for my daughter" but thank you for your interest. Cheers, Greg
Do you sell these?
G'day, thanks for your interest but I have only made one as a gift for my excellent daughter.
Hey, Greg, you have a willing customer here! How about it?
G'day bweaverla, thanks for your interest but the cotton gin was a one only project specifically a gift for my daughter. Feel free to copy it, I would be flattered. Cheers, GM
@@gregmay990 Thank you. You made a beautiful instrument.
More than that actually with a bale of cotton about a month.
So cool! I bought a couple pounds of cotton w/seed a couple of years ago I want to try to grow my own where I live but think it won't be hot enough in my growing zone without a greenhouse (which has yet to be built to be left up over winters) This time I will lovingly separate by hand and then if I can successfully grow a whack of it - I may think about this type of device Thank you for sharing your amazing ingenuity !!!
Tell the cameraman that it's his job to hold the camera steady when making videos. He ruined it.
Thanks for your interest, I'm glad you enjoyed my little machine and look forward to seeing some of your creations posted? Best wishes, GM
I can see workers in my head sitting at stations doing this all day as a job say around 1900. What a handy little unit
Workers you slaves
Helped me for my science fest .Thanks!
G'day Raghava, thanks for your nice feed back and all the best from Australia. Cheers, GM

Wow I’m impressed on how this works. Does anybody might actually know what the pieces are used for this? I’m doing a world history project with my group and we wanted to recreate a cotton gin for our presentation.
G'day sr9te, the bottom roller is hard wood and the little top roller is steel. There is sufficient friction between the two to drive the top roller and that's all there is to it. Thanks for your interest and best wishes to you and your group from Australia.
@@gregmay990 Thanks so much and good luck to you as well whatever you doing out there as well!
Why not pinch seeds in this machine
G'day Aksay, the rollers are too close together for the seeds to pinch.
where can I buy one
Can you make me one ? Pretty Please with a cherry on the top It's absolutely beautiful, you did a fantastic job as it's better looking than the really expensive ones you can buy
G'day ginnie jo, many thanks for your interest and kind comments, the project was a "once only" and was a labour of love for our daughter taking about 3 months of my time part time. You are welcome to copy the design although it is essentially typical of that type of carder, enjoy the journey. Best wishes, GM
What is on the wooden roller to make the cotton fibers stick to it?

Salom Raxmatullaeva va qiziqishingiz uchun rahmat. Men qizim uchun faqat bitta paxta tozalash mashinasini sovg'a qilganman. Iltimos, mening dizaynimni nusxa ko'chiring. Umid qilamanki, 2024 yil baxtli bo'lsin.
And what is the cost of this
G'day Pratibha Mishra thank you for your interest in the cotton gin. I designed and built it as a gift to my daughter some time ago and didn't make drawings as it was a "one off" project. Please feel free to copy any of the design, it is relatively simple and easy to make. The rollers rely on friction between them to operate and a little scrapper against the back of the bottom or driven roller helped to remove the fibers from the roller. Best wishes to you and your project.
How can I get this
Very neat.
Incredible workmanship! Wow it is gorgeous!
This channel should be larger sheesh amazing 😮
How to purchase this cotton gin plz share address and phone no... Plz
Beautiful clock. Did you make it? Admirable skill... This shou.d be taught to children in schools. What wonderful videos one finds on the internet.
Thanks for your kind comments, yes I designed and built the little clock. The concept dates back to probably the 1100s.
Thanks. Now I know what a cotton does.
Beautiful, great work.
Thanks James for your kind comments, it was indeed a labour of love and I named it after my maternal grandmother.
time runing?
Cool clock and great craftsmanship, nice work!
Would you mind telling what you used for the drums? Did you buy them premade? Are they solid wood all the way from one side to the next? How did you get them so perfectly round? Thanks for the video.
I made the drums rather like barrels with a disk at either end then 6mm thick strips around the circumference like staves of a barrel. The wire hooked outside is called carding mat and I purchased it from a supplier in Europe whose name I no longer have. I hope that is of help to you.
I was wondering the same thing
Great crafted. What a gift-all the time invested-that is love. Congratulations! I hope it works great.
It works really well and thank you for your kind comments.
Beautiful
G'day from Australia and thank you for your kind words regarding the cotton gin. For me these projects are great fun to design and then construct in my tiny work shop and they usually have a useful purpose as well so everybody has a little win. Best wishes for the future. gmay112
Enjoyed your beautiful clock. Cool winding handle. I have read verge/foliot were not accurate, curious to know if you tested it's accuracy? Seems like if you are within 15 minutes a day, that's about the best you can ask for. Of course the pendulum was a more reliable timekeeper. But I enjoy the look and sound of the verge/foliot. It's also easier to understand the movement, compared to more complex movements.
G'day Michael, thanks for your kind comments re the clock. As the concept is quite rudimentary so is the accuracy, though entirely adequate for life in medieval times. The clock was a delight to design and build and it quietly clanks away day and night here in our hallway, I can hear it now as I write this reply. Cheers, gmay
You could add a hopper on top to dump the cotton into, instead of feeding it in 1 boll at a time.
Do you have plans available?
G'day Howard, thanks for your interest. I made it as a "one off" for our daughter so no plans but please feel free to copy what you wish from watching the video.
Great great great machine How can I get my hands one of these?
Please feel free to copy the design, I have only ever made the one. Cheers,
Okay then Thought you were looking to sell that piece
Amazing craftsmanship!
Thank you kind sir,
So simple why did it take so long to invent?
Thanks Steven for your kind comments, I suspect that the solution to most of the problems in life are simple if we can just see past the cotton wool.
What a wonderful gift! I'd love that!
Muito show 😃
