This makes autumn the best season to hike

Autumn can be the best season to hike. There are no bugs, cooler temps, and magnificent color. There is something special that takes place in early October. I try and make it a point every year not to miss it before it's gone. Thanks for watching. Happy miles! -Cascadia

This narrated video documents our 9-day backpacking journey as we circumnavigated Mt Rainier following the classic Wonderland Trail. Many years ago Raptor and I summited Mt Rainier, so it's always been a special place to us. I used to think Mt Rainier was all about summiting the majestic mountain. Then, this year when we hiked the Wonderland Trail my attitude towards the park completely changed...

This was a 3-day backpacking trip in Mount Rainier National Park of the 36-mile Northern Loop Route. It's also known by some as the "mini" Wonderland Trail. While nothing compares to the Wonderland, it does provide a sampling of the Wonderland since nearly half the route is actually on the Wonderland Trail. Is this the most beautiful lake in Washington? I came away from this 2-day backpacking trip in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness thinking that this might just be the most beautiful lakes that I've seen in Washington. This was a 2-day backpacking trip to Spectacle Lake in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. I first came across this lake when I sectioned hiked the PCT a few years ago. I knew then I wanted to come back to spend more than just a couple hours exploring this area . Rainforest, alpine lakes, mountains, and glaciers. This was a 2-day backpacking trip of the High Divide - Seven Lakes Basin Loop. To experience its stunning wild beauty through sunrise and sunset, reminded me why I love to backpack. This was the second time I did this loop. The first trip was about eight years ago and the rain and clouds obscured the views. This time, I got lucky with exception...

Breathtaking.
I've watched alot of hiking journeys on YT; this trail is the most beautiful i have ever seen! Thanks for sharing
My pleasure. It is truly a special place! Cheers!
So beautiful. Thank you for sharing. What month was this? 🙏
Thank you. I did this hike in early August. Late July/early Aug would be the best time IMHO.
When I won the permit lottery last year, I watched your full WT video. Loved it. Really amped up my anticipation. Did the trail in 8.5 days back in August. Now looking to do the Northern Loop this year after watching your NL trip. Thanks for posting your adventures. Hope to meet you on trail someday. ~Sherwood
Thanks, I really appreciate the comment. I hope you had a great time on the Wonderland and hope you have a great trip on the Northern Loop! ~Cascadia
Pretty kind of Perfect Your Setup and the making of this video as well 👌 Thank you for sharing!
Thank you very much! Cheers!
@22:50 is a living Bierstadt painting
So true!
Nice gear! I'm interested in cold soaking. Do you have any recipes or favorites?
Thanks. Favorite would be what I cold soak for breakfast (oats, almonds, pumpkin seeds, dehydrated milk, and freeze dried strawberries and blueberries). I'd eat that every day not on a hike! For dinner, it's usually use some combination of cous cous, dehydrated beans and vegetables. What ever recipe you try, be sure to try it before the hike. Not fun having to eat something at the end of the day that isn't tasty ☹️. Cheers!
why include footage of pitched tents, burners and you guys chewing. I don't think most people care to see it
Thanks for "taking us with you" Brings back memories of hikes we took when we were young. Now 87 and can only do short day hikes. So great to see the Enchantments again!
87 and still hiking! That's incredible. I hope I can replicate that. I’m glad you enjoyed the video and it brought back some memories for you. Cheers!
Really enjoyed your RNP videos. I went last August and it was fogged in and light snow. Nothing like your scenes. I’m returning this summer to explore again
I hope you have a great trip this summer. Cheers!
One of the best backpacking videos I've ever seen. Just excellent from start to finish. Beautiful photography, perfect editing, subdued music. And what a fantastic hike this was! Just stunning. Thanks so much for posting. I'll be watching this again. The Wonderland Trail is on my bucket list.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. The Wonderland Trail is one of a kind!
Best gear video I've seen in my 10 years. Simple and has all pertinent information. Thank you so much!
That’s awesome to hear, thanks!
The sky with the crescent moon was a beautiful shot.
Thanks, the night sky was pretty spectacular on that trip. Cheers!
@@cascadiahiking Do you have any recommendations for the best places to camp on this route? Thank you in advance. Your video is absolutely gorgeous and I'm now watching it for the 3rd time. 😄
Thanks. I'd recommend Cispus Basin right after Cispus Pass on the 1st night. There are limited spots there but that basin is stunning and you have the Cispus River for water. The last night, I'd recommend Goat Lake. There are quite a few camps there. The other area is Snowgrass Flats. I think Snowgrass is off limits generally but there are some established camps in that area. Best to check rules in that area. Hope that helps. It's been a few years since I've been to the Goat Rocks, I'm due for a visit. Love that area. Cheers!
@ thank you so much! I appreciate the advice!
One of the most incredible trails on the planet by far
It has many aspects from its glacial features to its diverse landscapes that make it a special loop indeed.
Always love your videos Cascadia. Finally got out to the PNW for the 1st time this summer & now that winters here binging hiking footage to lessen the cold.
I hope you had a great trip to the PNW, I'm sure it was incredible! ~Cascadia
Maybe I missed it but do you need a permit for this?
Yes, if camping within the National Park. For my itinerary, 2 camps (Three Lakes and Indian Bar) were in the Park. My 1st night camp was outside the park so that one was just a walk-up, self-issue permit. Hope that helps!
What's that food bag?
I've been using Hyperlight Mountain Gear Pods, 9L, to carry my food in my pack. The clam shell makes it easy to find items and it better fits the shape of my pack.
@cascadiahiking I like the clam shell design. Thanks! And I love your videos!
Thanks!
Always excited when you post a new video. Each and every one is beautifully done, not to mention so inspiring that my wishlist has only grown since I started following you. I was even more excited when I saw this pop up because I mapped out this same route last week, as I'm looking ahead to 2025/2026. If you did this again, would you go clockwise or counterclockwise?
I'm glad you liked it. 100% I’d do it the same, clockwise. The end of day 3 and all day 4 was such a reward. Hope you have a great trip. Cheers!
Just came across your video. Your videography is incredible! Love your gear setup which is mostly identical to mine. I hope to do more solo trips like this ,so good to see your example of the unique experience it is. Happy trails!
Thanks for the kind words. Yeah that setup works really well. Glad you enjoyed the video. Happy Trails! ~Cascadia
If I could have only one LOVE button (inside of a LIKE), I would use it for you!! Thank you for sharing your hike!! I love the added quotes too!! My favorite part is at 22:36 when you just stopped and took it all in.
Thank you for the kind words. Yes, that view just blew me away with how beautiful it was. ~All the best! -Cascadia
Absolutely gorgeous hike...thank you for sharing your adventures...I appreciate your sensitivity to mother nature and your kindness towards people less fortunate..gratitude indeed! ❤😊
I'm glad you enjoyed the video, and thanks for your kind words.
Cascadia…you never fail to amaze with your beautifully filmed hikes…simply awe inspiring scenery and relaxing dialogue…thankyou for the inspiration to get out and enjoy nature 👍🏻👏🏻
Wow, thank you very much for the feedback! All the best, ~Cascadia
Looked like a wonderful trip, keep them coming....I really enjoy the way you shoot your videos, clear, clean, not gimmicky and soft music and voice over.
I’m glad you appreciate the style. Cheers!
Started my day out with this video. Absolutely beautiful. And perfect theme music to go with it. Just a tip for your water filtration system to keep debris out if you are ever in a situation where it could be an issue. REI sells a reusable GSI coffee filter for $5.50. It’s super light weight and you can put it over the mouth of your water bottle as you fill it. Catches any fir needles or dead bugs that might wash into it. Especially if you are filtering from a lake.
Thanks for the feedback and the suggestion. That would have helped me at Three Lakes where the lake was the only water source. I'll check that out, thanks!
@ you are welcome.

Very beautiful, Alaska is even more beautiful!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video. Cheers!
Love your videos Cascadia, I'm always left with wonder and excitement to go further and higher outdoors. The contributions you make for wilderness documention will forever have a special place in my heart, cheers mate 🌲💚✨
I’m always inspired by the beauty of the wilderness too. ~All the best, Cascadia
This film was such a treat. Me and some friends are hiking the wonderland loop this coming year, now I'm more excited than ever! Thanks for sharing this beautiful montage, cheers 🌲💚✨
You are going to love it! Enjoy. Cheers!

You're welcome, glad you enjoyed it.
Beautiful landscapes! Thanks
Thanks for watching, the Olympic Mountains are truly spectacular.
So beautiful! Thank you for sharing
It's been a couple years since I last visited the Goat Rocks. Already missing that special place. Thanks.
Beautiful!
The Enchantments are truly magical in the autumn.
The Enchantments - definitely worth seeking out. ❤🤩. It's on my list for this year.
Beautiful video! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching! Cheers, ~Cascadia
Too bad the trail burned last summer. So sad
This really bums me out too. This was my favorite early season trail.
Gorgeous. Thank you
Thanks for watching. The Wonderland Trail is pretty special trail. Cheers!
Beautiful!
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
What an incredible adventure! I've been day dreaming of doing this for years. Thanks to all the details and effort you put into it, I'm finally ready to make it happen. I truly appreciate the final push of inspiration!
I’m so glad it inspired you! It’s a truly remarkable trail.
I love finding you've posted a new video when I turn on my computer......!!! Thanks a million....!!!
Always a visual treat when it comes to your treks…brilliant 👏🏻👏🏻
Good work and thanks for posting! I’m coming out at the end of June and wonder if you could tell me a little bit more about doing this as a day hike? Signing up for the shuttle, etc.
Thanks. For the shuttle, you can just google Enchantments shuttle. There are two outfits providing shuttle service at set times. Doing it at the end of June means you'll likely have snow still on the route. Check satellite images as you get closer. If there is snow, consider an ice axe and microspikes. Usually the snow melts out by the end of July and those snow travel items are no longer needed. If you are reasonably fit doing it in a day is very doable.
Stunning 👏
Glad you liked it. The Enchantments are just incredible!
I expect you had to steel yourself to knock out an 18 mile day. Such a steep ascent at the start too! Great work as always with the visuals and the audio. For us older chaps, I pictured Budd Abbott and Lou Costello arguing as to whether Nada Lake was a river or not.
Nice catch on the lake😂😂😂
Stunning visuals! Thanks for sharing these amazing views! 👍24
Thanks for watching, the Enchantments are truly magical.
Nature is the Art of God. So true
That quote is so applicable to the Enchantments in Autumn.
🎉
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
That little waterfall before the climb to Marmot is lowkey iconic. Nice vid!
It really is a beautiful spot. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Beautiful thanks for sharing
