Technically Rothbart never explained that Odette would did via someone pledging a vow to someone else so the ending confuses me. That only means he didn’t break her curse… To be honest it would have been a cooler plot if Odette said ‘Screw this!’ And chose to leave seeing how easy it was for her love to fall for a fake blonde in high heels 😂 Under the past of ‘Is beauty all that matters do you??’ ‘What else is there??’

Personally I've always thought of him as a blah villain - there's nothing unique or intimidating about him, he even LOOKS boring. He's nowhere near as intimidating as the villain from the ballet. Even the monster he turns into isn't as interesting as the giant owl he becomes in the original story. I recommend the book of Swan Lake by Margot Fonteyn with pictures by Trina Schart Hyman - THAT design for Rothbart is way more striking and menacing.

Rest in peace, Daniel von Bargen (Nix). We won't forget you. One time, he attempted suicide by a self-inflicted gunshot wound, after he lost a leg and three toes from his other leg. He was a Diabetic.

Something that strikes me with these old timey animations is that there's a lot more fumbling when characters fight, compared to most modern media. A lot of falling, missed strikes, so on. It makes the situation feel more intense. More of a "yeah, that'd probably happen if I was in that situation" feel. He's standing his ground and he's brave, but you can really relate to Derek's desperation here.

Daniel von Bargen, the greatest Evil Wizard before Evil Wizards were a thing. The acting, the voice, the smirking, the quotes, nix is the ultimate personification of a twisted wizard. Even being an underrated movie, Lord of Illusions has a special place in my heart. It represents an era of the cinema that is long forgotten, everything now is made to be a blockbuster. Unpopular Opinion, Daniel as Nix, wearing some simple make up, lame vfx has a greater terrifying presence than Vecna, Voldemort, Sarumann and Darth Sidious together. Great actor, may his soul rest in peace after the ordeals he has endured during his last years. My be gone, but never forgotten
