Thank you for this. I'm making a peter b head sculpt and I want it to be accurate as possible so this tutorial will help me achieve that even more.
Thanks man am happy to help.
at 5:46 you ctrl+shift clicked the node to preview it, which I'm assuming is with the Node Wrangler addon enabled. Whenever I try to do that nothing happens. Is there something I'm missing that allows me to use that node-wrangler feature within Octane's shader editor?
You have to install the addon for that. Here is the updated link. When activating the addon you have to disable the default blender node wranggler an activate the Octane node wrangler. If you are going to use eevee or cycles, do the oposite. github.com/AiSatan/node_wrangler_octane/releases/tag/1.5.0
@@EgoMotionCG Oh wow, I didn't know there was a separate node wrangler for octane. That's awesome, thank you so much for the link and info!
@@ryanansen NP mate
Thank you so much this is very cool!!! Just a quick question, I noticed that I couldn't use the sky texture (specifically the sun disc) for eevee, what render engine did you use? Thank you again :))
Thanks man! i was using cycles. Use the sunlight for eevee, it should work like this.
thank you
No problem ;)

COOL STUFF! :)

so if I have my characters/cars on separate layers, they have to cast shadows and be affected by the other object in the scene. is it best to have the characters/cars with their own shadow catcher plane or just cast the shadows on the existing background?
yeah!, insted of holdout, cast shadows.
nice tutorial. i have always put off learnng this, but that was very helpful thanks
Thanks man!
If you do it like this you loose the reflections and the rest of interaction between the objects , you can see in your final render there is not reflection on the sides of the phones
Works on Blender4.1

beautiful way to explain this, I thank you for this my friend. Really good explanation.

Hey bro mey I know how u did that wall texture that’s looks greate
Hi man, it is actually very simple. On Quixel Bridge (megascans) there is PBR material called "Old Decorative Wallpaper" I improved it mixing it with some old wall material. I hope it helps

haha yeah, I spent a whole day on that side alone. I used the Blenderkit addon.
@@EgoMotionCG damn
I've been trying to solve this issue in a thousand possible ways for a long time and this tutorial simply won over everything! Thank you!
Am happy to help mate :) There is also a way to do this en blender, using the denoiser node with noising data, albedo and normals pass on the compositing tab. But it's still good to know how to do it in davinci in case you need it.
the edges are not clean in my instance. there are white dots going around. any solutions?
To address the white dots (if it is in your final render) it sounds like you are using cycles and you're not using the either the denoiser and/or not letting it render enough samples. Denoising is situation dependent and can make renders worse, especially animations. Also check to see if your noise threshold in the render (not viewport) tab under the render settings is set to a lower level or off entirely because once that limit is hit it will stop rendering on that tile and move on. The limit is great for speeding up renders if you don't want to fight with samples settings and are satisfied with the output at a particular threshold. Another small tip for using cycles is while rendering in dark/ enclosed places it will generate a lot more "fireflies" or white specs that don't resolve out. Rendering through transparent windows or light coming into an enclosed place through a transparent window will produce large amounts of fireflies as well. If you want more information blender guru does a good explanation of cycles rendering optimization on his videos, especially the kitchen video. Best of luck.
Dude, write up a script or something for yourself to follow. I'm not a beginner at Blender, but your instructions are extremely annoying to follow when you keep saying "um", "ah", and pausing for long moments between words.
Mate, these instructions are beginner level, and they are very simple steps to follow, unless you have just opened the program. Which part is it that you could not follow?
@@EgoMotionCG "Which part is it that you could not follow?" That's not what I said. Yes, the steps are easy. Listening to your instructions however is very annoying because you just don't speak fluidly. You keep uming and ahing and pausing for long moments between words while you decide what to say. If you write yourself a script to follow before you make the video, rather than just winging it, you will be much easier to listen to.
@@RanDom-y8r5i jesus bro chill out, this is a great tutorial
@@svmmxns I am chill, and yes the tutorial is good, but he would be way easier to listen to if he just spoke more clearly.
I can't express how grateful I am for this tutorial, I've been struggling with volumetrics with Octane since I started using it and NEVER managed to make them look good at all, this is so far the best tutorial on the topic, perfectly explained, no crazy movement on the screen, good pace, didn't even felt the 20 mins, thanks a lot!! and keep making tutorials, I'm gonna be watching them all, if I can suggest one, maybe with AOVs, render passes and compositing, now I am trying to deep dive a bit more on the topic and a tut would be awesome, thanks a lot again!!
Thanks man! I am glad to have been of help. I'm preparing new content, I've just been busy with personal projects and clients. And of course! I'm planning a tutorial on AOVs, stay tuned.
For people who are wondering where the holdout buttons are, go to top right corner, [Filter]. Within, you will find that you may turn on the holdout function among the [Restriction Toggles].
Is it possible to add aov passes to the output renderlayer and render out correctly?
No the is a Plugin named "Universal Multi Importer" to do multi improting. (Your's not found any more)
does it work with animation?
Yep
I just want to render one obj. Not the whole scene. This work too?
Yeah, maybe, just put yout object on one collection and tun off all the other collections.
how do you display the material corresponding to each obj?
Sometimes you have to find out for yourself haha, applying the textures to see which one matches
ua-cam.com/video/GdfyTXHBsyE/v-deo.html
if you want to use gradient after texture , add a baking node before displacement node, it will work
Holy fuck what a good advice, thanks!
without any sarcastic mood, can i ask you the benefits you find in using octane versus cycles, because i try it and it seems very buggy and slower inm the overall expiernce to me. thanks for the tut!
I thought I had answered you haha I use octane because its algorithm is much more advanced than cycles, which gives me a much more realistic look, and ironically also allows me to stylize much more. Also, Octane has much better color management than Cycles, you can work in Aces CG. In Cycles, you have the awful Filmic, AGX and now Khronos PBR, all 3 of these mess up the color information. And another very important thing for me are the render passes, Cycles has very few and the worst of all is that they have neither denoiser nor antialiasing. This you have to place it later in compositing. There are also other attributes of Octane like the Universal camera that has many more settings than the Cycles camera, or the texture displacement. All these factors make the rendering probably slower, but the quality will always be superior to Cycles.
@@EgoMotionCG thanx mate!
😍😍😍😘
Got the product from GumRoad but it didn't show a download link on the "view content" page.
Do you remember your light bounce settings on this? I feel like I may be overdoing it and wasting render time.
Just use 3 or 2 in on all of them, It is the minimum I recommend
Are all those assets created by you or did you solely composite the scene?
all this assets can be found in Blenderkit addon, i just remade the materials, a few of them with new textures from scratch.
a pretty good tutorial , thanks for the tips
Thanks! Am happy to help :)

@@TCG-Monk This is one of the options, on the right side of the screen you should see the e-mail address to be entered and a button that says "get".
so, it would triplicate the render times since we'd be doing layering, right?
The render time will increase but not necessarily triple, each layer will have its own render time. It could be even more or even less.
The main reason to do this is to get more control over the different elements in your image when you composite them together. You are also able to make tweaks in blender to one item without having to render the whole image, if you're doing longer animations this can save a huge amount of render time, you can even use different render settings per layer to speed things up.
on your phone passes, you don't want to hide the ground as it contributes to the shading of the phone as evidenced by your brighter phones in your final composite. Is there a way to include the ground in the calculations of the phone pass but not render? (in Maya it's a simple as turning primary visibility off) Good tutorial by the way. thank you
Thanks man! You can do that by clicking the object (in this case, the floor) and going to the object properties tab, scroll down to the visibility section and check off the camera ray visibility. The object will remain visible in diffuse, glossy and shadow visibility, but wont be visible to the camera.
@@EgoMotionCG that does make sense, but in your case, if you had different layers, blender doesn't seem to obey them. If you turn off camera ray, how do you keep that for only the one layer you are on and not affect them all?
@@davorcelar3306 Well, there is always a way to find a way, with holdout, with camera ray or even with shadow catcher. You can duplicate the collection of the floor: have one in a layer where it is visible to the camera and another where the camera ray is disabled. I haven't tried it haha maybe my theory doesn't work, but I know it can be done somehow with the options available.
There is no starting point 🤷
What do you mean?
@@EgoMotionCG I mean you should start to plain.😕 Because beginner not understand some points.
@@gtasanandreas1164 This is not for beginners...
What if I had a displacement texture thats higher than 8192x8192 is it possible to override the Level of detail and go higher with a custom resolution input?
That's a very good question, as far as I understand that is not possible in the Blender version of Octane. It may be possible in the Cinema 4D version of Octane.
keep it up big guy
Thanks man!
it doesnt work for me. I run octane server but it doesnt work it just shows an error. I am using blender 4.1 but it uses blender 4.0

its blender version 4.0.2 any chance to get that for 4.1? or 4.2 alpha versions?
I don't think so bro, unless you have Octane licence and access to the forum, there are the previous versions.

hmm, but is it that diferent than to use a displacement map in default cycles? yes its cool, but not sure if worth the time learning octane...
Yes, mate, it's totally worth it. In Cycles, to use displacement you have to subdivide the model, in Octane you don't have to. On the other hand, Octane is an unbiased render engine, unlike cycles, which guarantees more realistic renders. It also has many more settings to configure, which gives more control if you want to have a more stylized result.
@@EgoMotionCG any videos/ tutorials in mind i should watch to dive into it correctly? if its just like an other compositor system i think i could learn it relativly fast... r there any big downsides? like its not avaiabl for 4.1 i think...
@@bUildYT The tutorials from Lino Grandi (Otoy and Octane artist) are the best. ua-cam.com/video/8y7blB0e784/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/Mr_ZW3heXcU/v-deo.html You can also subscribe to my channel (if you are not already subscribed), here I will be sharing what I know about Octane, I've been learning it for a year now. OctaneRender for Blender, operating on four NVIDIA Quadro P4000 GPUs. ua-cam.com/video/7wfJ9GnKpx8/v-deo.html
If you want the best render engine for blender, that'd be renderman.
In fact, that's how I expected it to be. But renderman is much more complicated than Octane when setting up materials and rendering, and its UI is much better organized in Maya than in Blender. Also, the lack of renderman content in Blender makes it practically useless to use
@@EgoMotionCG yeah but it's still the best IMO for the highest quality renders from my experience and it's the same in maya and blender and houdini, you'd have to make your own shaders.
