    EXCELLENT...now you know you can trust your kit and your own decisions. Both are so important. Think we have now binge watched all your videos and are grateful to you for taking the time and effort to make and produce your videos for those amongst the female population who may wonder whether they can do it. We go 'out' on a regular basis, either training or for pleasure and are surprised the number of times we meet people whose first question is ''are you not frightened to be out alone (just the two of you), just the three/four of you {all female} on your own''. To be absolutely honest we faced all our fears years ago and now just go for the adrenaline trips. Face and overcome your fears and they dissipate with the experience you have gained. Once again, thank you for your efforts to bring the outside wild nature to single women...you are doing a great job. Stay well, stay safe Helen and Katarin Juska-Law and Terri with Robyn (Eastern UK Fenlands)

    This is the best wild camping video UA-cam has shown me this last week, and it has shown me a lot. The algorithym thinks that's all I want to fucking see right now, just because I wanted to upgrade my 30 year old Trangia and happened to look up a few videos on that! Anyway (vent over), this is the best video not because you were trying to teach me something but precisely becasue you weren't. I wanted to upgrade my cookset because I haven't camped in years and years, and I'm getting a hankering for it again. I've camped a lot over the years and for extended periods when travelling, so I have the knowledge and the kit, but if I went into the woods tonight in the rain and tried to set up camp it'd be a bit messy. I know I'd second guess the size of my tent or my tarp, I'd be asking myself "What am I doing? why am I here?. It is miserable setting up in the rain. Your face said that when you sat down and decided not to bother with a fire and just open a can instead. I was putting myself in your soggy shoes and thinking, if there's anything worse than setting up camp in the rain it's sitting in one drinking a cold can when it's cold, dark and wet outside. The different story your face told after you had made a fire and generated heat and light for yourself is what makes this video stand out for me. You're the first creator who has shown that honesty. Most I've seen daren't show anything less that complete competence. They would want us to believe that the only lessons to be learned from their mistakes are the ingenious ways they overcome them. The reality is that setting up camp normally comes at the end of a tiring day. Mistakes are made, components go missing, things break, the elements change. We've all had it all happen to us. And we go into auto mode and go through the motions as best we can and ultimately a point comes when you realise you're comfortable. It's before you cook, it's before you even brew a drink. It's the point when you realise you'll be fine from then on. You're set up. That's the moment this video reminded me of. It's a very self-satisfying moment and I'd forgotten it, frankly. I think it's the point in your day when all the aches, pains and misfortunes start disolving into anecdotes. It's what this video gave me that no amount of knot vs toggle advice or gas vs spirit burner video can give me. Thanks for that! ;¬)

    • @PocketRambles
      @PocketRambles 6 місяців тому

      This! Being honest about the fire not working is important to me... Sometimes for the purposes of editing you focus solely on what went well but when things go wrong is where the real learning and evolving happens. We don't show our vulnerabilities enough as a society, I think. So thank you for letting me know it resonated with you! 😊

    hey sister, ive recently bought a wood stove like yours. It is very sturdy and compact. only issue i had was like yourself, gettting the thing going. as a result i bought some softwood and hardwood online and a small axe. I cut down thw wood to size. using the hardwood as a base, bark in the middle to get it going, and softwood at the top, occasionally topping up the wood every few minutes or so. i dont have a spark device, so trustly old lighter does the trick with peat firelighters (1 segment works all the time for me).

    One your tinder bundle ignites you need to be much quicker adding very small kindling then quickly add some slightly larger twigs. You basically chucked a small log in your bundle when it had about 3 seconds burn time left. Feather sticks would be a nice thing to learn as you could make them in the woods. Several UA-camrs use cotton pads covered in Vaseline. Not only are these easy to light, they burn for a long time and 3 of them will even get damp wood burning. They are a great backup if you don't want them to be your main method. Liked the setup with the tarp, ideal for the conditions.

    Good job! Shame about the fire but those were challenging conditions. I tend to keep a little fatwood in my bag to increase the chances of starting a fire. Fine shavings ignited with the ferro rod. Works well for me - even in damp conditions. Enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing! 🙌
