Second year in a row we are back in Portugal for some epic riding, we had plans to be in North Spain but weather do what It wants so there we are two Tenere 700 having a blast. We started in the same spot that we finished TET in 2023, Serra de Estrela and done few other trails on the way back. This time Filip did a bit of filming as well. AJ KTM 950 Rally mothers day training mechanical issue
Can you explain how the tablet is mounted exactly? What ram mount are you using? Clearly, it is not attached to the handlebar. How is it attached to the dash? Is there base mount that you bolted to the dash itself first and then attached a ram mount?
It looks like you removed the Factory dash and gauges. Did you install a bracket or plate of some type to mount the Samsung tablet to? I have a 950 Adventure and I would like a similar setup, hence the questions. Thanks!
@@trailrunnermike My tablet is mounted to a Heavy Enduro Racing rally tower it was build for rally racing by my friend and he produced few of them for the team. I removed the roadbook holder bracket from the tower and made a plate for ram ez roll bracket specific to Samsung galaxy active tab 2. Plate itself has rubber mounts to help with vibration. Your other option would be to use “navigation plate” also made by Heavy Enduro Racing I had that plate fitted on my 990 and it would also work with the tablet. That plate simply replaces you plastic dash mount you can find it on unit-31 website in Race & Adventure parts section. Hopefully that clarifies it.
@ thank you very much for the detailed reply!
Glad you found yourself a 1190 project bike and look forward to seeing you putting it through its paces AJ.
So you’re going to make the 1190 your road bike. Make it pretty, try it off road, enjoy it,race it and then sell the tenere 🤣🤣👍
Well the whole point is not to go down this road but it is tempting, I know it's like a rocket ship on the road. Let's see what happens later on to be fair.
Some tricky trails there, AJ. Nicely done ✊🏻 Must put it on the list with youtube.com/@monkeybusiness9178
the only thing worse would be a 1300GS
it was absolutely epic providing you like to struggle on a big bike from time to time
Reliability sucks on the T7 AJ 😜.. no much spanering time with T7 , had to go back to 950 🤪congrats pal , good choice of bikes !
@@ADEngineeringUK in over two years I only done oil change on t7 😂 am sure 950 will give me something to do. 1190 should be reasonably good as well. Too much garage space is no good for anyone 😉

sand sucks, i ride DRZ 400 on TET, light bike makes it little easier, back down next summer on F900GS and little apprehensive on bigger bike, lol
@@obyone67 I am convinced we had too much gear in deep sand, weight was mostly at the back as we had camping gear for two weeks and that’s great for traction normally but really is a disadvantage in the sand 🤷🏼♂️
How long was the off the pavement trail and how long did it take to ride it? Thanks!
@@stefanhansen5882 Unfortunately I can’t give you the numbers as I don’t pay attention to that factor unless it’s very unbalanced. Most of north is very much off road and little of black top. Amazing trails I would like to retire there amazing
@@HeavyEnduroAdventures Do you have an estimate? 10 km? 30 km? 100 km? Or...? 1 hour? 2 hours? 4 hours? Or...?
@@stefanhansen5882 on average I would use a full tank of fuel every day so probably 100 miles a day give or take as some sections are enduro type hard so significantly slower
Hey, just rebuilding my 950, replace so many things already, but not the wiring loom, where did you get your new loom from? Cheers

awesome film, I did some of the GWT this summer but dont remember seeing most of these lanes, perhaps too technical for the TET?
@@shaunwightman-smith7660 some of them are on tet but this track was put together by our friend that is local to the area so every time we go down to Devon we can do something different.
Witch is the better choice? The older Adventure with some repair issue or a newer T700? Are you like T700 as KTM before?
@@rc_51_zxr it is a completely different bike that being said T7 is easier to ride off road as it has less power I own this bike for something like two years and didn’t have any problems. On the other hand 9x0 is a brilliant platform when everything is working then is just a grin machine. Is there anything that within my skill level I couldn’t do on either bike, not really I can ride the same trails on both but after all the reliability factor is quite important and because of that I don’t need to spend a lot of time fixing things. In a perfect world if they both new I would still take 9x0
Hello! Can i trouble you with some guidance about suspension mods? How much did it cost you and ehat exactly have you done? Thank's! PS i also ride a 990 and i wil change soon. But i will still keep my 990 as a reminder of me being young :))
Hi buddy Custom triple clamps and bottom of fork. 48mm suspension revalved and resprang 265mm travel etc. Tractive fully adjustable shock with +25mm Cost expect to pay £3k+ depending on what you want. That is all built by a tuner at T-tech suspension in UK. I hope that helps
@@HeavyEnduroAdventures Sir, thank's!!! ,
That looked like a LOT of fun! How long was the TET section you did in Portugal and what was your time and/or average speed? Thanks!
We started at Serra de Estrela and finished in Santiago do Cacem and returned through different trails. To be honest is hard to say distance wise as I don't ever pay attention to it, I always look at fuel and that was a full tank per day riding trails.
@@HeavyEnduroAdventures Do you dare to give an estimate about your average and maximum speed?
@@stefanhansen5882 I can tell you that sand was very slow 😅 on most trail is below 30mph for most part as you can’t really see around the corners and we do expect oncoming traffic but it was rear to see anyone.
@@HeavyEnduroAdventures Slow in sand for sure. 🤣I would have guessed it was rather slow. I'm asking since I'm trying to decide on a bike for a similar trip. I've tried the Ténéré, and it's a heavy bike. I'm considering an enduro bike 50-100 kg lighter than the T7. Yes, it will not go more than 100 mph, but it will not need to.
@@stefanhansen5882 we are used to heavier bikes as we both had 950 adventures so T7 with few upgrades made sense. Enduro bikes are good for the weight but I just don’t find them comfortable enough for long days but then again it depends what you are used to ride. If you want you can go fast on open sections, tet Portugal is pretty technical and some sections are hard on bigger bikes.
11:10 it’s me passing by 😂

Fair play for getting up there.💪 Been looking forward to this video to hear your comparisons, I'm fairly new to 'big bikes' and love my 950 but reliability is always hanging over me. Currently the T7 is the only contender as a worthy replacement. What are the sky blue hand guards are you using? A mate has a collection of old Yamaha ITs and a matching T7 rally, he wants some.🤣 We run a campsite up near Machynlleth, if you're up this way and want to camp hit me up.👍
They are Barkbusters but previous owner painted the to match the bike 😉 Send me a message on Instagram @ajkukwa am sure I will be going back up your neck of the woods there is plenty of great riding out there 👍🏻

Shoulda had my CRF250 😏.
Its going to be a number of years before I get to lighter bikes been there already and am not convinced
Great vid and really appreciate the 950 comparisons. You touched on exactly where I am these days. I've been on a 990 since 08 (no 950s available any where) riding similar trails to what you seem to like up in forests and mountains of Washington state. There is something fun about putting big bikes in small places and hearing you huff and puff while bulldogging that bike brought back fun and painful memories. :) The grin factor you mention on the LC8s are hard to beat and there is something very special about those bikes when they are snorting up a rocky hill or running balls out on fast gravel. The maintenance however does suck and at 15 years old, I'm not as confident out in the sesert or way up iin the mountains here in Utah. So, I've been looking at a replacement due to similar reasons you stated. I must say however, it is killing me. Every time I'm on BeDyG (Big Dumb Grin) the idea of letting her go is killing me. I'll definitely be watching your content more closely as you dial in your T7. It is certainly on my short list...especially as I push 60. Thanks for posting! As a side note and maybe a tip for light enduro riders moving to big bikes on single track: While in my 990 years ago, I got into a narrow gully similar to the one you show at the end of the vid at the bottom of a 500 meter hill when the width got too narrow to pass. My buddy and I then spent 2 hours pulling it back up hill. I usually would walk unfamiliar narrow downhill routes to be sure there were no stoppers . I always carry a stick as wide as my bike to test tight spots in the trail . I checked the route all the way to a clearing, and then rode down. Well, as I was riding through narrowest part (similar to 12:30 in your vid) the sand compressed, and my 2 inches of clearance left and right disappeared. With no physical means to turn the bike around, we had to pull it back up hill. It was a good lesson for someone who thought they had it all figured out. Getting a 500+_ lb bike out of a down hill stopper is not the same as your 200lb 2-stroke. Cheers!
Thanks buddy, there definitely some wise words in your comment. I do share the sentiment for 9x0 bikes they are awesome machines but the sands of time a talking their tool on them. I was puffing like a good one when I eventually got out this one is definitely memorable one 😂 I am in process of upgrading couple of things on T7 so riding should get a little better again.
There's nothing on a 990 that can't be rebuilt if needed! Keep it alive if you like it.
@@colinbowman8816 agreed is true that you can rebuild everything well most things.
Great content. What suspension front and rear do you have?
@@SB-Kiwi Front is modified 48mm KYB forks with 265mm of travel you can use motocross or enduro for for that with custom bottoms on fork and new billet triple clamps. Rear is fully adjustable Tractive shock. That also provides increased ride hight of 25mm. It is pretty sweet highly recommended 👌🏻

I currently ride a 2017 KTM 1090R and was actually considering buying a 2004 KTM 950 Adventure S, but after watching this and other videos, it seems these bikes are simply too complex for my level of mechanic skills to maintain it properly. Thank you for sharing this information.
