Thank you for a concise video I found the information most helpful
I’m sorry for your loss. Thank you for making this video… I’m in a very similar situation as I just lost my mom at the end of July (2024) and two days later we discovered that Dad has stage 3A lung cancer. He’d been completely suppressing the pain and symptoms while taking care of Mom, who had advanced dementia. Your advice to remember to take one step at a time, brush your teeth, get dressed, etc., basic self care, was invaluable and came at exactly the moment I needed to hear it. Thank you for sharing your journey and for helping me with mine.
You’re very welcome. I’m sorry for your loss and sending you very big hugs. Remember to also take it easy on yourself and relax your expectations. Things will be foggy for at least 6 months to a year. And if you forget things, it’s totally normal. ♥️♥️❤️🩹
Very nice clear and helpful vid, thank you :)
Thank you so much! ☺️
OMG. I am mesmerized by your quilt behind you! Did you quilt it?
My husband designed and made the top. We had it custom quilted by a friend. It’s a great quilt.
@@itsjusttimber so lovely!
May I ask where to get the beautiful brass weighted drop spindle? Thanks for your wonderful video.
I got mine here, but it looks like they may be out of stock: woolery.com/ist-crafts-turkish-spindle-zebrawood.html
@@itsjusttimber Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for making this user friendly. I’ve watched other videos, and they are great, but yours makes it clear and practical. 🙏
You're welcome! I always try to remember what it was like to be a beginner and think about the areas where I was most frustrated.
This is super helpful. Barebones, with good info about why people like the spindle type. No fluff (beyond what's inherent in spinning, haha).
Thank you so much!!
Absolutely perfect video for me. I had never really got a handle on how to use my hand carders well. You got me sorted in one video.
Thank you so much! I remember how much I struggled when I first began, and the information (in simple format) was really hard to track down. I created the video that I needed back then! I'm so glad it helped.
Ugh! This was the drop spindle video I was looking for!!! Some lady dominated the search results for this and she just never got to the point soon enough. This video was perfect. Clear, concise, and *to the point.* If you wanna learn all about the history and misogyny that other lady's got you covered. If you just wanna know how it works and how to do it *this is it.*
Thank you. I try my best to boil it down to simple terms, and try not to get too wordy (although I fail sometimes because I LOVE fiber arts).
@@itsjusttimber good job overall, the only thing I think I missed was carding, but I'm sure that'll be another good vid.
@@quoudten Sorry for the late response. I do have a video on carding, and I can't remember if I put up before or after this vid. Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/-AGR0Vg8cKY/v-deo.htmlsi=AWl88fBVBUTAoEx1
Great introduction to these spindles!! I believe Incould pick one up and start successfully right away. Thanks!
Thank you!! I really hope you try it! Let me know how it goes.
Im so sorry for your loss. I hope you will continue your channel, the content is useful for fibre artists. 🙏 God bless you.
Thank you. I will, indeed, keep the channel going. More good things coming.
More exciting with every passing day! 👍
You got that right! And we’re SO ready to go back to work.
Oh gosh. I just discovered you and I was really touched by this video - I had a very similar year recently. Lost my Mum, 9 months later I lost my stepfather then 2 days later lost my best friend - also lost 2 pets in that time. When grief piles up like that it changes you. It's been a while since you made this video, I hope you're doing OK! Good days and bad days, huh? Reminders everywhere. It doesn't go away... but thankfully it does get a bit easier (sorry, cliche, but true). Wishing you all the best, good friends, great walks, and moments of peace. And dayummm those boots are fine!
Thank you. ♥️ Things have settled quite a bit. I still think of them daily, but it’s more with fondness than pain. It has helped to move back to my hometown, where my hubby and I are opening a sewing shop. Thank you for your kind words, and you’re right! They are fine boots! 😊
Could you give us the links to buy these items. I'd love to add a few to my sewing room. Thank you!
Let me see what I can do for you. I will gather them up.
@@itsjusttimber Thanks! i'd be interested in the rotary cutter.
So, for the rotary cutter, the rulers, cutting mats, and the clips, you can go to quiltersselect.com . From there, you can browse the individual products, and they can show you where to buy them in person, or online. (No, I am not sponsored by them.)
Okay, I have a link in another comment below for some of the Quilters Select items. For the Guggenheim Tailor's Shears, you can buy them direct here: www.guggenhein.com For the other items, some can be found on Brewersewing.com , handicraft.com , or at your local quilt shop. The glass pattern weights are here: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H5CYW16/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Unfortunately, the stiletto/seam ripper was a piece that was custom made for me by my sister. I can check and see if she is still making them.
@@itsjusttimber Thanks so much for taking the time to do this. Much appreciated.
You look good in anything & everything😊
aw shucks! Just had some fun with this.
Yay! I'm aleady excited❤🤗
Finally! We're getting somewhere.

Yeehaw! Got'er done! And worth dancin' & singin about! Mighty fine lookin' jacket! Thanks again for bringing smiles, laughter, & memories back to me😂😊🤗
Rock on! 🤘
When we are new to being praised for our creations we must as you say, take a step back and put the shoe on the other foot. Yes, sir, your chore jacket is to be admired, as well as your skill in creating a thing of beauty. I am telling you this so it must be true. I would not waste my energy on faux flattery. 🙂
Well said! I have to remember not to believe everything I think. Those voices of doubt were put there by someone else and they aren’t mine. 🥰
Wow! Nice duds! First blush looks like corduroy. Love the coffee beans/cups in pockets. Has a nice fit. Geez. I'm getting in the mood to sew for my grandson❣️ Thanks👍
Thank you! These are flannel, and super comfy.
Fine job! When I was in my 20's I loved sewing western shirts so much with all the double stitching & colored pearl snaps to match. They were so comfortable and cost so little compared to store-bought. One day I decided to see how fast I could make one. Didn't know I could move that fast 🤣 I was shocked when it was done in 4 hours🤯🤠 I still have that old portable Montgomery ("Monkey") Wards mail order cataloge machine I bought in 1965. I salivate watching you sew on your fancy machine!😊
Thank you so much! I actually learned on a 1968 Singer (mom’s machine) and my dad had an old Monkey Ward’s machine (‘76). The hubby and I have several vintage machines, as well as the newer ones. Each has its purpose. 😁
@itsjusttimber Thanks so much! Always glad to hear other folks stories! I just had your channel pop up a couple nights ago, enjoyed it & subscribed forthwith! Looking forward to many more. ❤🧵🪡
Thank you for sharing yours! I enjoy hearing what memories or accomplishments these vids bring up for people. Makes it more real, and not just a face on a screen or words from a username. 🥰😁
Looks great...is this your pattern? I would love to make one from he Lindsay Clan tartan. 🎉
It’s one that I modified from a basic block, tailored for fit and details. If you’re looking for a pattern, there are a lot of similar ones out there that are really inexpensive.
Love the jacket! How did you keep the fabric from fraying while you cut it?
I just minimized how much I handled each piece. Normally, a twill holds together really well and the steam ironing before cutting helps set it. If it’s a particularly loose weave, you can use fray check or an iron on stabilizer tape at the edges, but it wasn’t necessary for this project.
I can do the weaving, but I have a psychological block about the pattern / sewing etc ! How difficult is it ? Bit fed up of weaving rectangles 😀
It’s not bad doing the sewing, but I’ve also been doing it for years. What I would say is, practice on cheap fabric like muslin or thrift store sheets before cutting into your handwoven fabric. You can do it!!
I just got the guilt trip of a lifetime! I'm going to watch this repeatedly and share it with my 90 year old neighbor who has stopped weaving. My livingroom centerpiece (a/k/a loom) has been calling my name. It's silent accusatory voice is now deafening! Your vid is another silent voice/nudge for me to get at it and quit procrastinating❣️ Thank you so much for your inspiration & sharing the beauty of your artistic and creative talents. Very impressive to say the least.👍
Thank you so much! That’s very high praise. Just remember, have fun. It’s only fabric! Make mistakes. Enjoy the process. ♥️
Great advice! Yes, that's the best position. Wow, you have a LOT going on - I hope things smooth out soon, beginning with the sale of the house. May you remain calm and strong during all of the stress.
Things will even out. Just gotta keep plugging along. 😁
So excited for you. This is going to be great.
Had to repost here!! Going to start doing some updates from the shop. 😁
Thank you. Who is the manufacturer of your medium (weighted) turkish spindle?
Sorry it took me so long. I am pretty sure this is the spindle: woolery.com/ist-crafts-turkish-spindle-zebrawood.html
Thank you! @@itsjusttimber
Sincere condolences. Might I suggest the podcast All There Is with Anderson Cooper. Helpful for me in many ways.
Thank you for the recommendation. I will check it out.
Best wishes and safe travels, and good luck with everything in your future!
This is my absolute **favourite** tutorial video on this topic! Very well done - THANK you for this! 😊
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Your teaching is so good I have found it easy to follow and understand. Glad I found you.
You are so welcome!
Great info!
Thank you!
Thank you for this. My mom has late stage dementia, so I feel as though I've already lost my sounding board and cheerleader. It's been a tough thing to come to terms with. I appreciate you sharing these musings very much. ❤
You are so welcome. And you are seen. ♥️
Great. Now, how do you use a yarn that needs 7 ends per inch if you have an 8 dent reed?
You wouldn't. It's not really feasible. You could change reeds, or you could round up to 8 or drop to 6 ends per inch.
@@itsjusttimberok. So in reality, which reed would you choose to use that last yarn in a twill? Would YOU round up & weave it ‘’tighter” with the 8 or go down to the 6 and weave it looser,? (I am beginning to appreciate the use of a samplet loom)
also LOVE the way you describe yourself>>> ain't we all --I mean the open minded people??/ what part of the states do you live in?? me TX not so great for wool projects, lol
Thank you!! I’m up in Oregon.
I love your waistcoat ❤
Thank you!! There are several different colors/styles. This is my fave.
Thank you so much for this video! What if you wanted to use two different yarns in one project how would you figure out what set to use?
Sorry for the delayed response. I’ve been thinking on how to couch my reply, because it’s a little complicated. I may actually do a video on it.
I’m so sorry for your losses. I tuned in to this because I lost my husband of 33 years 2 months ago. He was my best friend and we did everything together outside of our jobs. Your video spoke to me and what I needed to hear at the moment. Thank you for sharing your experience with me.
Thank you for that. It’s important to remember that, even though it feels like it sometimes, you are not alone. There are parts we have to do by ourselves, but we can also lean on others.
I wanna do this. Also I didn't know u had a husband. I assumed you were single lol.
Making jeans isn't terribly difficult, but getting the right fit can be a challenge. And yup, married. Going on 9 years. 13 years together. ❤
Thanks for this! I've been doing it wrong. I have not been dividing.
You're so welcome! I'm glad it helped.
Cute idea for the pockets.
Thank you! Love them.
Great explanation - thank you! =)
Thank you so much!
As a newbie at spinning, I appreciate how you teach. Where is the least expensive place to buy roving?
Thank you so much! Where to buy roving is really kind of subjective. It depends on what you're looking for. The Woolery may be a good place to start.
Looks great.
Thanks!
thank you!!
You’re so welcome!! Truly my pleasure.
You can also make a centre-pull ball on a top-whorl spindle, if you're careful how you wind the wool (and don't do it too tightly).
You can! I’m not quite that patient, though… 🤣
That is a huge fleece! Great instructional video thanks for the info.
It was pretty huge, but I also stretched it a bit. And, you’re so welcome. I love helping people learn these things!
I love your work, I am a spinner Mem and knitting men. I live in Argentina.
Thank you so much! Glad you’re here, and welcome!
Watching some of the older Scottish videos on wool prep they didn't have the expensive tools we think we have to have today to make great wool yarn. My most expensive tool YTD in my wool prep is a 12x12 carding cloth stapled to a cutting board. But it's not saying I'm not saving for a drum carded.
Absolutely!! Use what you have at hand. Expensive tools are nice and fun, but they are absolutely not necessary. ♥️
Beautiful tutorial! Thank you for sharing <3 In italy we use "il fuso" that is a similar tool. I love the design of the turkish one tho! I will try one of theese!
Thank you so much! I haven’t heard of “il fuso.” I will definitely be checking it out!
Finally, a clear explanation. Thank you.
You’re absolutely welcome!
