Hi Mike. There is a lot of bullshit talked about mic amps in general and many great records were made using live boards. External mic amps have had a resurgence with the advent of digital recording and the slow demise of the large mixing console. Our board is a CADAC J series designed for live use and the mic amps are very clean, electronic balanced affairs. The sound and the way it behaves with the attached microphone (and the relationship between the two is important) is really determined by a couple of factors. Transformer balancing and discrete components. Transformers do colour the sound and IMHO discrete electronics (individual transistors/resistors) sound better than ICs. It’s subtle and by far the most important factors are the quality of the sound source and microphone choice and positioning - see parts #1 and #2 of this series.

Many thanks. I had the amps set quite dark for the tour as it suited the new material and very happy with the sound. It was recorded very loud as you can probably tell from the feedback and why I can't possibly move to modelling/emulation. I need to feel it :)

Hi again! As I mentioned in the previous comment I have replied twice to this! Anyway, it is very comfortable when seated: the 'gutaway' helps a lot. The only issue is due to the design the neck is displaced to the left quite a bit making a full barre F chord more challenging to play cleanly. You can see the detail in part two of the article which again can be found in the description below.

It was loud when I recorded this as I wanted to demonstrate how I use it live and how naturally it feeds back. Yes, it is a 12" radius and the full specification of the guitar can be found in part of the article I wrote on this (see the link in the description below).
