This was great! I loved The Memory Police so much. The Disaster Tourist was super interesting and took a wild turn! Pink Slime sounds really great.

Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata is weird and really good. And if you want something really F’d up and dark, try her book Earthlings. Also one of my favs is Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarczuk.

I read the first of the Ice Planet Barbarians earlier this year. Crazy but entertaining . I have the second as a possibility.

Maybe you just need a break, and believe me, the algorithm isn't going to punish you if you start posting less videos. Make videos when you like, then the fun starts to come back, probably. I don't have short term channel goals, of course I'm tempted to say I'd like to hit 1000 subscribers by X date, but I have no idea why because I'm not going to monetize my channel when I this that goal anyway. It's just the idea that I can say; look how successful I'm on UA-cam.

I am a re-reader and think this a lot. But recently I’ve switched my thoughts to why not just get some e-reader that I have for books I really want to keep and then I could also borrow library books through it as well.

You are so right that there is not really a reason to buy books unless you want special editions or you want indie books that are not usually at the library. I have trouble not buying books because I love hunting for bargains, and it is just fun to go book shopping for me.

Hhmm, a different sort of topic. I feel that way on some of the books I purchase and some I'm planning to unhaul when I'm finished with them, some if I don't like them and they aren't part of my collections.

what about the free mini libraries if you want to own the books. I am trying so hard not to buy books because i feel the same what about them. I will only read them once then they just sit there.

I felt the same way when i was moving my bookshelves and had to add a new case, i was like whats the point lol. i tried to come up with a system to cut down but then i was like eh, book shopping makes me happy lol. my friends daughter came down a few weeks ago and was like "wow what a beautiful library!!" and i felt validated haha

I think everyone is different and if you don't want to have that is fine, lots of great books at the library if your library has the books you want to read.

I had a friend who stopped buying fiction because she never re-read the books, and went 100% library so she wasn't spending money needlessly.

I try to only add 10-20 new hardcovers to my shelves a year; i’m not great with decor so I like having bookshelves.

It sounds like you have an amazing library system, so good for you! If I had to rely on my library, I would need to change genres to Romance, Spy Thrillers, and Lit Fiction. I have to buy out of state library cards to get non-Stephen King horror its that bad. 😂 But yeah, I have a very healthy TBR but I am trying to buy only authors I know I love. I don't reread often but I loan them to family also.

I buy book for a few reasons reasons, Because I love them and it makes me happy, and life is too short not to enjoy the small things. But all my books shelves area part of the furniture in my home to there is also that decoration aspect. Also the libraries near me don't have a lot of variety and also don't have a lot of the books im interested in readying so there is also that, and I do prefer to read physical than ebook. You are not overthinking, you just need to find what feels right for you and what makes you happy :).

I re-read a little but I also look at my collection as my retirement entertainment ( if I'm lucky to make it to that age!) as well as acting as a curator for the future/Keeping titles out of the landfill. What I need to practice more is getting rid of books I did not like....

You’re not overthinking things! I’ve been an exclusive library reader since I started this channel and rarely do you see me post book haul videos. (It’s the rare 5 star book, non-fiction book because I enjoy annotating those for comprehension, or a book I REALLLYYYY want to read but can’t find on any of my subscriptions or library.) I have KU, Everand and Libby so I never want for something to read. I have one small and narrow fiction bookshelf with 4 levels at my house. My brain comes to the same conclusion: why own a book that I could easily access for free or part of my subscriptions? Not to get too deep, but it’s a very American thing to want to possess things 😂

This sounds like a good read touching on a subject that has not been discussed much before. When I was kid in the 80s and teen in the 90s, I knew Viet-Nam veterans through members of my family, and the war was almost treated as a national embarrassment where discussions on the subject just simply did not happen. The only exposure I had to learning about Viet-Nam was through flicks like First Blood, Platoon, and TV shows like Tour of Duty. I do not recall it being discussed heavily in history class either.
