Over the years, I trained many times under Saito Sensei; New Zealand, Australia and a long stint in Japan. He was a great teacher with a great sense of humour who was very generous with his knowledge. Iwama Ryu Aikido has practical application as a self defense tool but it gives the dedicated student so much more than that. RIP Saito Sensei.

There are some inaccuracies here. Especially concerning the weapons training and the relation to iaido or kendo. To uncover them, you must understand the origins of kendo and what is being practiced by people in Daito-ryu. Ono-ha itto ryu and Mugen Shinto Iaijutsu Both kendo and iaido can be considered standardized versions of older schools such as those. Yet we know little about Morihei Ueshiba having a document of any type of kenjutsu/iaijutsu/jojutsu training. The same goes for Saito, which is known to have practiced some kendo.
