Jobs at the Gregg - Curator of a museum
I have two (one with samison, the other holding a bird cage) my dad was a usn sailor, pick them up in japan during the post war occupation...grew up with the girls being around, after he past way, they're still with me.
❤I want that doll
Where to get the doll
ebay
She's dressed more like a hangyoku or maiko actually, not every Japanese entertainer is a geisha lol
I confess it drives me nuts to see every female Japanese doll identified as a “geisha”, so thanks for posting a friendly comment.
I love how beautiful her kimono looks
I love Japanese doll
Namaste Althone from Pittsburgh. Hope you and your family are well
Cheers from New Orleans. Lovely....
How did they make the Kanzashi accessories so small? She is so pretty.
Bless Joseph Duo
I'm so happy to see this happen. I tried 3ds and pano views when I worked at the Gregg back in the early-mid 2000s. Sadly, the technology and resource loads made embedding into that day's websites (pre-UA-cam) overly burdensome to overcome. Excellent work!!!
Thank you, John! Please excuse our delayed response. If you're interested, the rest of these scans can be found on our website here: gregg.arts.ncsu.edu/collections/3d-models-and-scans/
Great Interview...I am applying at museum jobs now. I am now open to temp museum jobs. Thanks!
Best of luck!
My parents also have one, given by a japanese professor who is also his besties (my family is not a japanese). This was happened on 1985. Many many years later, me and my mom realized that the doll is a japanese geisha after we read memoirs of a geisha, written by arthur golden. Before, we always think that's how japanese people who are rich dressed in the past 😅
Fun With Flags . . . felt like I was watching Sheldon and Amy record "Fun With Drawers". LOL
Love the saucy wink at the end! Knickers always solicit a smile or laugh.
Music was annoying
Thanks for the feedback! We are working on new and improved content beginning in the new year.
Awesome thanks
We donated to a museum my husband's great grandmother's complete wedding outfit. It included the no crotch drawers you showed in the first example.
I'm trying to get an understanding of late 1800s combinations from a beginner's POV. It's(the photo) my favorite out of all these.
Well presented funny how she found it hard to keep a straight face at the end! 👍
That was fun! Thank you!😃🎈
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching.
Very interesting, as I enjoy history. But the jazz music was distracting
Thanks for watching and providing helpful feedback! We are working on new and improved content to share in the new year.
That was fascinating! I wonder why they were originally called 'drawers?'
They went into the bottom drawer. Unmentionables went there. Sorry, forgot to say, drawers is short for "under drawers". I asked my grandmother this same question, she was born in 1900. My other grandmother told me the same thing and she was born in 1892. Gotta go with experience on this one.
They were called "Drawers" because they were "Drawn up" (pulled up) onto the body.
Jazz is not as popular as it used to be.
I enjoyed the history. I did NOT like the music. I think the narrative would be fine without background clashing music.
The.music didn't fit in with the times. It's distracting to watch you read, too. Interesting subject!
I agree! Always hard to hear through music!
The background music was an odd counterpoint to the subject of this video -- very incongruent. Please dispense with distracting audio choices; they absolutely RUIN the content.
Thank you so much for your feedback and for taking the time to watch. We are working on new and improved content to share in the new year.
Everything was so beautifully made in the Victorian/Edwardian times!
Loved it, thanks for sharing.
Awesome Job Mr . Gray !!!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾💯
This was such a wonderful experience. My first visit to the Gregg museum and Andre’s art was a great introduction. The subject matter has a dark history but his expression and creativity allows you to digest his vision with a kind of comfort and optimism that we can and hopefully will see all people as human and equal with respect. His delivery was soft, kind, respectful, thoughtful and very palatable considering the pain that often comes with the real history so many people keep fighting to keep hidden.
Cool!
Nice work on this video!!!
Wonderful! I learned so much. So well done!
I love for u video
this guy should change his name
What a magnificent gown! How fortunate to have it in your collection!
Not the Daniel Johnston I wanted to hear from.
