Great moments and memories. .uss Mars AFS1 1974-1976.uss Lockwood 1064 1976-1978
West pac 80, Team Spirit AO51 Ashtabula...best time a 17yr old from Detroit could ever imagine...ready to retire and move there...anyone else with me?
I TOO WAS ONBOARD THE USS MIDWAY, and lived with my girlfriend for 3+ years (...so desperately wanted to get married, ...BUT didn't [In retrospect I wondered ""IF" she ever really did...]); I learned so much Tagalog (NOT TAG-LISH...) that some people thought that I was a local. We lived in Barrio Barretto. GOD HOW I MISSED THIS PALCE. I often dreamed about returning to see the changes, ..especially afterthe Pinatubo eruption.
It sounds like my Story bud
Thank you for the memories, MS3 Burns here, 77-81 …USS Kansas City AOR3. great times , I do miss them
The
Alin ang nauna subic ba o olongapo
Thank you so much po at nakita ko rin ang lugar na dati ay naging memorable ko sa buhay ko
To this day they still use the Red and Yellow jeepnies
Oh the memories 😊
I was a Cubi for 4 + years, lived off base with the family who owned KONGS, HOTELS,RESTAURANTS,MOTORCYCLE SHOPS, WONDERFUL FRIENDS, STILL MISS THEM
Was back after 32 years Walk along magsaysay so much different but bring back some good memories
Not the way I remember it back in the early 70s!! But a very good place to visit!! We all loved it !!
thank you I was born there Olongapo last time when I was 14 years old and last time in 1972 my dad was marien and my mom filino
Hi, I'm originally from Olongapo and comes from a family of military men- from my dad, to brothers, cousins and nephews! When was this video taken? Did any of you remember D' Cave I think it was called? My dad owned it at one point, lol! It was a long time ago! The 70's maybe? I definitely remember Subic base, my school St. Columban and of course Magsaysay drive!
Thanks for Posting!!!
84 WesPac on the Kitty Hawk CV-63. What a blast it was! Luckily all my pictures survived a house fire in the 90's.
went there four times, '71-'91...can't say I miss it...
In and out of Subic Bay 72 and 73 actually saw Bob Hope’s second to last Vietnam USO show is next stop was Guam and then he was doing no more shows I remember it being absolute insanity in that city young sailor $10 in your pocket gotcha drunk may be a good time with the young lady and some barbecue stick on the way back across the bridge to the Naval base
My parents wouldn't let me outside by myself when I was little. Told monkey would take me. 🤣
Navy brat. Lived there in late 60s early 70s
none of this was there when i was stationed there
I was there in the late 1980s ....it was just great..
MEDICARE IS A DEAD STICK RIP OFF PROGRAM TO BEGIN WITH EVEN IN CONUS ANYWAY , AN EMPTY DECEPTIVE SHAM SCAM ANYWAY. THE VA HEALTHCARE SYSTEM BEATS MEDICARE .... PERIOD !!! Tricare works better than medicare as an Alternative to the VAHC System
Tricare is the worst. Every claim I have submitted always gets DENIED or Incomplete after 90 DAYS of " Inprocess." If I performed like Tricare I never would have lasted in USAF. THE WORST.
Maraming salamat
Mahal ko ang OLONGAPO
philippines is a beautiful country but the philippinese people don't like their environment clean and orderly, they litter everywhere, urinate in public places and they couldn't seem to build their infrastructures appealing to the eyes.
100 like. Thank you for sharing this wonderful video. I enjoy the driving tour. Nice scenery around. New friend here.
Left RP in 76', when my dad got sent to Guam. Dad was stationed at NSD. I remember vividly the sh*t river and the girls and little kids in the Banca boats, though at 6 yo did not really understand it. Remember the stories told of being in the go-go clubs front and center stage, at that age. A bunch of NAVY guys were escorted out, when they tried moving me, because I WAS in one of their spots. When your filipino Uncle is president of the Olangapo Bar Association possibly had something to do with that. Used to live in a complex behind Pauline's, in my dad's earlier tours, then lived in Binictican on his later ones. Oh, the stories my dad would share...
why hospitals in philippines are generally smelly? they have no quality care because they are a nation of corrupt people.
BALUUUUUT ANYONE?
Mitch. Retired sailor stationed there in the 80's. Loved it. Wanna go back. I like what you are doing.
Was there three times from 73-76 onboard USS Tripoli. What a party place it was. Some of the best times of my life.
I really enjoyed this video. Was there 1963 till 1965 US Navy
An amazing cultral mixture of talent ,hospitality, beauty and faith ! USS White Plains (AFS-4) '76-'80
1980 on board The USS Brewton was my first time. I made three West-Pacs and my memory fails me some but I do miss P.I. I will never make it back but if I did I might never leave. Wish I had been able to see Baguio..
Thanks shipmate for these videos. Just discovered your channel a couple of days ago. I was in the Navy from 85 through 89. On USS Midway and towers. Went to subic so many times. I am 100% disabled I have a mechanical heart valve. Obviously I don't want Tricare. Which hospital either in Clark or Subic has the best cardiac unit. I'm trying to decide where to move. Also, if you could pick any insurance to use in the Philippines which would it be? I definitely don't think Tricare is a good idea. I'm engaged to a Filipina for 10 years now and I am planning to move sometime this year. Thanks again for the video. 😎
With those Spaghetti wires still in existence, you can't really say a city is improving. Those Spaghetti wires are painful for the eyes to see. It so rampant even in major well known urban area!
Pacific Cross and Phil Health is the way to go. You can get both and still pay a heck of a lot less than the US.
The Philippines is NOT a 3rd world country. The Philippines is one of the fastest growing economic countries in Asia.
I ❤️ Olongapo
How can I qualify for tricare I'm not 100% ?
Same Old Jeepneys still there
1984, Sam's Pizza, watching the show there and hearing them sing the ballad of Subic Bay. Good times!
Please watch video: The Grace Gospel, Do You Know What It Is? Use the KJV
Thanks for the memories any photo of the White rock?
I find myself too often/"addictively" watching these vidoes of the POST BASE Olongapo and (I) am glad to see it so cleaned-up now. I kept wondering "if" WE servicemen are blamed for the rampant poverty of the area. I consider myself NOT to be one of those (There was a dignity these people has that defied logic and I had such respect for them it goes beyond the words of our limited languages). Those of us who learned some Tagalog (mostly "TAGLISH") were often treated differently than the average American serviceman. I was stationed onboard the USS MIDWAY, and I visited Subic Bay MORE THAN JUST REGULARLY; MOSTLY BARRIO BARETTO. so... many times that I was home there more than at home in Philadelphia PA. I would be given liberty or leave repeatedly and I would zip home to my girlfriend in the Barrio, ..we planned on getting married but...; Memories abound! GOD (!!!) HOW I MISS THIS PLACE AND WISH THINGS TURNED-OUT DIFFERENTLY WITH MY "NEGRITA" OLE GIRLFRIEND.
the coloured coded jeepney and it's people are truly the gems
Man that brings back memories. Especially Shit River Bridge and Mag SaySay.
