Wow. Never knew this community was so BIG. Maternity, library, schools and many more. Seems like an affordable dream come true. What eating place did you say is non existent again? PMG or something???
"property care" is the key here. This is what began the decline... (my opinion)
@@KennyLauderdale I don’t think you fully understand the situation. Property care is a small part it. The video paints an idyllic picture but like an iceberg the largest part is underneath.
(22:22) wow... Tivoli had the arts. Dance, music, fashion shows. This means that the people were creating business. I wonder if those people packed up and moved to the US and England, etc. My father and uncles and aunties allllll left Jamaica from the 1960's - 1980's. They all go back to visit but nobody ever moved back. They came from the hills/country of Maidestone. They moved into Kingston. Then eventually moved to the US and Canada.
@@KennyLauderdale Many people who have lived overseas actually return to Jamaica to live. There is a term for them, “Returning Residents”. Sadly many who return to their communities are targeted by criminals. BTW most of Jamaica’s creative energies originate in inner city communities.
(9:38) the crackle had me thinking that I was having signal issues in my recording studio 😆
@@KennyLauderdale lol…reel to reel tape. Analogue artifacts.😂😂😂

Permission to Cry? This poem is not for females, Is not for wives or witches or For gals and their horny friends. This bawling poem is for boys Of all ages and their fathers. This poem is for strong men Weakened by expectations. This poem is for mi bredrin dem Who cannot adequately explain The feelings welling up inside.... This poem is for all men who Longed to be understood by Man, by woman & by society, Men crushed and hit for six. This poem is permission to cry. Bawl when you lose a loved one. Cry when you caan tek no more. Bawl when you lose yuh job. Cry when you get promoted. Bawl when yuh picney graduate. This poem is a hug for mi likkle Bredda...him nuh talk much but You can see the pain, the anguish Of clenched jaws squeezing back Tears that begs an escape route. This poem is for fathers who Tried their best, but their best was Never good enough and it hurts. This poem is for di man dem who Heard "your son is not your son" This poem is for the angry youths With no one to hear their feelings. Told bawling is not an option so The other option is dem pump Action, guns & ammo blazing. Omg where did all that vision went mighty God Mr seaga did a marvelous work in developing that community look how much amenities were created for the community. If Jamaica had stayed on that path we would’ve been so industrious, but a the same ppl dem mash up the community
I really enjoyed these videos. Would love to see some videos on public housing such as Hannah Town, Denham Town and Arnette Gardens
00:30 Urban Renewal is Negro Removal
Wow, everybody under HEAVY manners! But what happened? How did we get from that wonderful utopia back then to where we are now?
@@CurtisCT Sorry… Jamaica was never Utopia. Don’t be fooled by the video
@@TheRealJamaica I agree, but that Tivoli Gardens project looks remarkably similar to the various social housing projects built in countries like Sweden, Germany and Russia in the 50's and 60's. It was the exact same concept and produced the exact same results with smiling, well-behaved and well-looked after citizens featured in similar (propaganda) documentaries.
@@CurtisCT The US projects turned out differently. I strongly suspect that Tivoli Gardens was based on the projects
@@TheRealJamaica Maybe, but that still doesn't explain what happened and how it became so run-down. Was it a matter of neglect? Lack of funds? How did Tivoli devolve into a sovereign ghetto?
@@CurtisCT The bungalows are owner occupied and well maintained. The high rises are tenant occupied and are in very poor condition. The government is the landlord.

Wow! this is what was needed for all communities in Jamaica that surely would have given the great majority of people a chance. Instead a lot of them were forced to leave Jamaica to look for a new life abroad to find work. In so doing a lot of them experienced poor housing and general institutional racism for years. They would have been better off in a community like this documentary shows in their own country of Jamaica. Tivoli gardens back then was a thriving community and the vision for it was on point. Corruption today has prevented a lot of Jamaicans in poor communities from experiencing this kind of development. Even Britain could have learnt from such a vision back in those days, a third world country that achieved this. Wish I was brought up in such an environment that I could have thrived in that way. All benefitted from babies to pensioners. A true utopia society. I found the documentary extremely encouraging. I’ve never known a prime minister in my life time to have done this. These documentaries should be shown in schools to show parents and children how a thriving environment impacts their future.

Before being named Jamaica Information Service it was called API. I can't recall what those initials meant
Actually it was originally JIS then the PNP changed it to API (Agency for Public Information) and Seaga promptly changed it back to JIS in 1980 when he came to power.😂😂😂
Very great and informative program
Thanks 🙏
Ricardo "Bibi" Gardner is definitely my favorite Reggae Boyz player...I liked his flair and dribbling he was very flashy....but effective he played in the Premier League for years for Bolton Wanderers....very established footballer

Great story of my father. Well done with factual information. Dave was a really good friend to my father in life and after death.
Great to hear from Mr. McKinley’s daughter! John Messam my co-producer and I both went to Calabar, as you know your father is a legend there. It was an honour to make the film, it was shown on local TV in Jamaica for the launch of the London Olympics broadcast. Sadly John passed away a couple years ago. Thanks for the kind comments 🙏
Saw him make his debut @ Shef Wednesday in the Prem for BWFC, Watched him grow into the General... Awesome player ..\0/..
