Testing Success of Firing Pots Vertically
Переглядів 7453 роки тому
I needed to know if I could find a pot standing up on its end and get a result that would work. I suspected that not having the feet of the post resting on the kiln shelf would allow the pot to warp. Let's see what happens.
Glaze Tile Display Board
Переглядів 8893 роки тому
Time to update the board I use to display my glaze sample tiles. I make tiles when I experiment with new glaze combinations, not just when I buy a new color, so I always have new glazes to put up. Here's my quick update to my board. Maybe it will help you think about how you might organize your glaze samples.

Hand-built Relief Pot
Переглядів 1,1 тис.4 роки тому
I've had this idea in my head for a while and finally found time to do it. It is technically a bonsai pot or at least a pot with drainage and wire holes, but I don't know if there is a tree in the world that would want to be in a pot like this. Music clip from www.bensound.com/

Build a One-of-a-Kind Bonsai Pot - The Drape Method
This is a very informative video. I have had a difficult time figuring out the leather analogy because different leathers move differently. Seeing the scratches and how the slab should stand on its side were especially helpful. Thanks for taking the time to share.
Very helpful. I was wondering what leather hard meant just this morning. Thanks
Hi, this clay looks really nice to work with, what is it called? Thanks
Thank you so much.. it's really helpful for beginners like me
What are proper dimensions of bonsai pots. Is there a book on dimensions and how to make. Thank You…. 😊😊😊
Amazing, this is exactly what I was looking for
Older video, but still…wow!
I thought they were fighting
Who else came here for studio-art
Thank you.
This was incredible thank you
…… awesome video, thanks for sharing
Extremely informative and well put together to explain leather hardness and ranges around it.
Iam amazed with your work, do you have online classes?
Do you have an uodated video?
how thick is the clay?
1/4 inch thick for small pots and 3/8 inch thick for larger pots.
Great video - just wish the camera angle was closer and a little higher. It is challenging to see what you are doing.
hola amigo, vaya maceta mas guapa, quisiera intentar hacer yo una,que pintura me recomendarias al final? muchas gracias y saludos
if you were to press a slab of clay onto a mold, would you blotter the mold or the clay?
Awesome video, Thanks for sharing! What kind of clay do you use?
Awesome video, Thanks for sharing! What type of clay do you use?
Glad I found this!
Your instruction would be better than so called music.
🤦🏼♂️
Thank you!
What type of clay do you use?
Beautiful work, how long do you let the slabs sit before you start to put things together?
It would be more helpful if you would have had the variables consistent. Using hours first of all and explaining your location to identify possible humidity. Then not covering again with plastic prior to the last demonstration. You needed to use the clay you were holding out for amount of water as your example.
I live in japan, and Your pot hits a really high standard , thank you for this vid
cool!
Whats the thickness of slab.
Which clay did you use?
How thick are the plates?
How do I calculate that?
Do we need to bake it?
hope to be asking you some questions after bloom i believe. I rescued a gumpo and it seemed to have survived.
You can loose the so called music
LoL you make it easy ...but it is not easy =/ could you please put it to download?
Beautiful tree, We need more bonsai pot building video's!!!
Great job, my friend, Very nice bonsai pot. I use to make it too, but using cement and sand.
Thanks for this video! What gauge and type of wire you are using in your video? I appreciate the way you led us through several steps and ideas for balance and support. Time lapse was great too
This is steel "stovepipe" wire, probably 18 gauge. You can do the same process with aluminum wires as well, which is much easier to move and bend.
@@aaronstratten9594 Thank you 😊
Hi Aaron, thank you so much for sharing your process! The details make all the difference. I'm going to try this out the next couple of days.
I make a product for a living from hand and one thing I've learned over the years is even if you hate it, someone out there will. So stop wasting time hating on it and go make better one.... I think the pot looks great haha
It was really helpful. Where can I get the wood sticks you used in this video to have even slab? Thanks in advance.
I found those at my local home improvement store (Lowes) and I'm sure you could find similar anywhere you can buy lumber or millwork.
Re: drain hole placement - doesn't that create a pooling area in the center bottom of the pot? Root-rot is always one of my biggest problems with pots.
The drain holes are spaced across the flat bottom of this pot. If you are building your own, place them where it seems best for your needs. (and try a soil mix that drains better)
beautiful work, could I please know what solution is in the jar to join the pieces? could I also know if the wooden boards used are on the market? I guess they must have special characteristics. Thank you
The soft material used to join pieces together is called slip - just the same clay thinned with water to a paint-like consistency. I bought the boards at my local home improvement store where they had different thicknesses to choose from.
Why cover up that beautiful root base..
Very impressive.. so if you don't mind what would something like that cost Retail and private collector?
Isn't that the wrong time of the year for collecting bonsai trees.. are boxwood somehow different??
What kinda clay are you using for Strong durable pots that will not break during Winter I'm using 266 and 112 dark Brown and speckled?
I use both of those and others on occasion. As long as you fire these to cone 5 they should be vitrified and be very durable through all seasons.
