Welcome to our channel! We started making skin care products after trying every lotion on the market on our child with horrible cracks and painful eczema. Every lotion we tried burned, didn't work and made both of us feel terrible! I made it my mission to create the perfect lotion, soap and skincare to help relieve the itch and heal their skin once and for all. Once I perfected the recipe, I decided to share it with the world! Very well explained. Thanks
Thank you!! I hope it works out for you 🥰
I use A LOT of vanilla extract!! LOVE THIS!!!🤩
Thank you so much for the comment! I hope you love the recipe!!
❤
I made this last night. Now it is curing. Lye part makes me nervous. Can't wait until I can try it out.
I can't wait to hear about it!! I hope it works well for you. 🥰 Lye can be so intimidating! How did it feel when you did it? Once you get your first few batches of soap out of the way, it will feel like second nature. 😊 Thank you for watching and your comment. ☺️
OK. This is weird. I clicked on your link to join, and when I try to pay, the only states it will let me enter are states in Canada!
It is a Canadian link so that may be the reason! This is also a pretty old video and I do not have a current subscription to WW anymore. I apologize for the inconvenience but thank you so much for watching and your comment. 🥰
I rendered dry tallow and it smells... Could I redo it with water to take some of the smell!
I would definitely redo it if you are noticing a smell. It can take a few renders to get it odorless. I personally think that the dry rendering leaves a scent behind but there are people who swear by it! Thank you for your comment 🥰
Can l ask how long do the essential oil scent last for?
Hello! Thank you for your comment! I would say they last 4-6 months but you could prolong it if you pack them airtight after they have had a chance to cure. If you are wanting a stronger scent, I would infuse the tallow as well 🥰 Here is a link to my coffee soap where I infused it. ua-cam.com/video/4iJSABbwUVk/v-deo.htmlsi=cdwxYjw2ky3eySt9 Here is a link to how to infuse tallow ua-cam.com/video/8TFB3oG9RAo/v-deo.htmlsi=5cpGWMsyGIknAD7x Thanks for watching!
Great video did the coffee scent come through. Why is the top of the soap have white on top
Thank you for the comment! It is very lightly scented, but scented nonetheless. Coffee essential oil would be lovely if you are looking to boost the fragrance 😊 the top turned white due to soda ash. It happens sometimes 🤷 but it is harmless 😊 this post explains it well and different strategies to manage it if you don't like it. angelapalmer.com/why-does-my-soap-have-white-film-on-top/
Looking forward to making your soap recipe! Great tutorial!
Thank you so much! I hope it turns out awesome!! Let me know how it goes ☺️ Thank you for the comment 😊
Hi Nikki, you are truly inspiring. I would like to know your opinion on this: I have a bundle of sheep fat that I’m considering rendering for cooking as well as for tallow soap making and for tallow cream, would sheep tallow behave similar to beef tallow or is there other things I should consider?
Thank you so much for the kind comment 😊 I have not personally tried sheep tallow, however it is on my list to try! I can't see why it would be any different in skin care! If you plan to use it in soap making, make sure you run it through a soap calculator as you want to make sure the lye ratio is safe for skin. 😊 www.soapcalc.net/info/helptext.asp Thank you again for the comment!
Thanks for your prompt answer. I will definitely use the soap calculator for the soap and give it a go. As for your tallow skin cream, is it by any chance greasy and would it melt in high temperatures?
@@thebest41or2 I do not find it to be greasy at all but it does depend on the oil you mix it with and the quality of your tallow. If you are finding it to be a concern, you could try adding a small amount of arrowroot powder (I am talking 1/8 of a teaspoon to start) and scaling up from there. :)
Great tutorial. Does your skin feel dry afterwards? ❤❤
Thank you so much!! 🥰 I don't find it dries out my skin (my skin feels way less dry now that I've stopped all soaps from the store) however, if you are new to handmade soaps, it takes a bit for your skin to adjust to making its own oils again lol This can make you feel a bit squeaky at first. Of course if you are sensitive to an ingredient, use a different formula omitting it. 😊 Thanks again!!
My ex husband won’t use anything except my handmade soap, because he says that’s the only soap that doesn’t dry him out. 🤷🏻♀️
How about lemon of orange zest tallow infusion?
Thank you for the comment! I have thought about that and it is on my to do list to try. My only concern would be potential burning or stinging. If you do try it, let me know, and I'll do some experiments as well. 🥰
OMG😮😮 this is definitely for me. I suffer eczema and djinn allergy since for ever nothing seems to work. It like you described: agony, discomfort and frustration. I will definitely make this. Thanks Nickie for the inspiration. My only concern is maybe is it greasy? How about using sweet almond oil instead of olive oil, or maybe combining the two since both are great for skin?!! What do you think?
Hello! Thank you for the kind comment 🥰 I am sorry to hear about the eczema. It is so terrible to go through. Sweet almond oil would be lovely I'm sure!! You may need to play around with some different oils to find what works best for your skin! Also, I'm not sure if you've ever heard of wet wrapping but it has saved us many an itchy night. Here is an article on how to do it. On hands and feet I use thin wet socks (like they suggest in the article) and thick dry socks over top. Of course make sure you talk to a doctor about it but we really love it!! nationaleczema.org/eczema/treatment/wet-wrap-therapy/ Thanks again for your comment and I hope it works well ☺️
This was so wonderful! Thanks so very much for sharing.❤
I am so glad you enjoyed it!! I hope it works out well for you 🥰 Thank you for the comment 😊
Awsome
Thanks Cody 😊
May I ask what the zinc oxide does in the solution? I have used arrowroot. Do you think I could possibly substitute that? I want to try this, but I don’t have any zinc oxide.😢
Hello! Thank you for the comment 😊 the zinc oxide (non nano) is used to neutralize the odor. You could leave it out but it wouldn't be effective in stopping the smell. It would be more like a lotion. The Arrowroot would help it to be less greasy overall though 😀 If you are wanting to make your own products long term, it may be worth it to buy the zinc. amzn.to/4fY00uz Thank you so much!!
@ ohhhhh! 💡 Thank you so much!!!
I hope it works for you 😊
I'm really new to soap making. I've made only 2 batches. The 1st one turned out really well but leaves my hands very dry. A friend used it too and it made her hands rough. Will the coconut oil in soaps make skin dry feeling and rough. Other than that, it felt wonderful. I'm also just learning how to use a soap calculator.
I'm happy to hear it went well overall! I would definitely experiment with different recipes or ingredients as you could be sensitive to some of them (always ensure you are using a soap calculator.) Learning the soap calculator would be very helpful!! Thank you for your comment 😊
It CAN, but most people will increase the superfat to counter that.
so if you lower the pH to 6, would it still bubble or would it turn like salt like base? also, would you need to add preservative?
If my soap mold is 18oz, how many oz of oil do I need (33.33% lye)
Hello! Thank you for the comment! This would be the perfect question for a soap calculator 😊 soapcalc.net/info/helptext.asp I hope your soap turns out well 🥰
@@calmactivemom you r wonderful i love u thanks so much
Will this work on psoriasis??
Hello! I would always recommend talking to a physician before any new product use 😊 Each individual case is different 🙂 Thank you for your comment!
The root cause of eczema or psoriasis is food related, mostly dairy but topicals can help relieve symptoms but not get rid of it.
@@PrimalPathWellness Also allergy to wheat.
@@MM-op6ys yes! that also
@@PrimalPathWellness 😀
Is it greasy
Hello! Thank you for the comment! I have never experienced it being greasy. It always soaks right in to my skin 🥰
I have very sensitive skin, so this video is truly helpful. Thank you

Thank you so much! I hope you have a happy New Year! I appreciate the support. 🥰
The only essential oil is tallow!
Totally agree!!
Do I need to have bowls and an immersion blender that I use only for soap making?
While it can be a pain to clean them, once they are clean, they are good as new! I always soak my utensils and bowls in hot soapy water after I have wiped them down with a paper towel. (I would suggest keeping your gloves on the whole time as it can still burn you until it is cured.) Any of the lye tools go straight into my dishwasher in a part that is not easy to disturb and won't be touched. I hope this helps! Thank you for the comment 😊
This is not natural because of lye , is there any way to make soap with out lye ?
Thank you for your comment! I totally understand the hesitancy of using lye. It can be intimidating! Unfortunately, you need it to saponify the oils. If you didn't, you would have a lump of oils (which would be nourishing!) but wouldn't be a soap bar. I hope this helps!
No true soap is made without sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide (both forms of lye).
I'm a scratch cook, baker and candy maker. I will definitely make this dry soup mix. I make my own dry Italian/ Ranch mix but never thought to make one for soups. I don't buy canned soup ( except tomato soup) but this allows for a nice bowl of soup when you want one. I do save all my meat pan drippings mixed with a half cup of water and freeze it so I won't need to add bouillon. Thank you. :o)
Italian and ranch mix sound so good! I've never thought to save meat pan drippings but that is also a good tip! Thank you for the comment 😊
@@calmactivemom I'll be 72 this month I know all the old school tricks. Wasting is a sin is what I was taught since a kid. I like saving money, too. :o)
Do you make your own laundry soap and if so do you use this soap? And are you on a septic system??
We are on a septic system. I do not currently make my own, but I have been considering it! I will work on it and test it. 😊
Thankyou
Thank you for your comment! 🥰 I hope you love the soup 😊

Why put a jar in a jar put a snack bag
Hey! Thanks for the comment. I used jars as I try to limit waste as much as I can and I haven't found reusable bags that don't start to smell after a while. You are free to use a baggie as I mentioned in the video. 😊
Silk is not old school.
I totally get that!! Unfortunately we are unable to have dairy so silk was the best alternative. Thank you for your comment!
I was very impressed with your safety precautions. I have watched some people soaping with no gloves, bare arms and no goggles. I am also a soap maker of only a few years.

Ohhh by goodness, a video that actually has a step by step detailed recipe, and that MAKES the soap in real time! Thank you so much! I've had a ridiculous fear of using lye to make soap, but yet I used it for a clogged drain 🤷 Anyway, thanks again. This is one of the best detailed videos I've seen ❤️
That is so funny! Our mind can play tricks on us sometimes. 🤣 I am so glad to hear you feel confident in it now!! Thank you for your kind words. 🥰 Let me know how your soap making goes!!
there is nothing healthy about nutritional yeast. It’s just another form of MSG.
Thank you for your comment! As with any ingredient, sourcing the highest quality you can is always important. If an ingredient doesn't agree with you or you don't want to use it, substitute with whatever ingredient (in this case a bouillon) that you enjoy. Thank you for watching!
Doesn't using this as a shampoo kill your hair? The natural ph of our shin and hair is 5.5-6. The ph of lye soap is around 10. The superfat helps but it doesn't solve the issue. You should try making a shampoo bar. It's much better for your hair. Just food for thought
Hello! Thank you for the comment! So far I have had zero issues using this as a shampoo bar. I will sometimes finish with a apple cider vinegar rinse but I have been looking into making a shampoo bar! Have you made them before? Thank you for your comment. 😊
@calmactivemom i have made them. I learned from a UA-camr. I think it's honeybee. I can't remember now. They are so so so easy to make. I'm actually working on a really crazy formula I came up with that is totally different than anything out there. It is not a soap bar or a shampoo bar but something like a hybrid. The process is really cool. I will be doing an experiment later this week. Wish me luck🫰🫰🫰
@@axolotllifeaquatics4492those are great if you can use SCI, but not everyone can. I can’t use any coconut or derived products.
Have you tried pumpkin rice? How about peanut butter and jelly rice? My absolute favorite is cranberry rice! Followed by bbq pork and green bean rice!
Wow, those sound so incredibly unique!! Do you make your own premixes or mix peanut butter and jelly into cooked rice? I am very intrigued!!
@ I eat mostly rice since I got sick a few years ago, and I wanted to not be bored. For the pumpkin,I used pumpkin pie filling, raisins and maple syrup. For pb&j, add them in the middle of cooking. For the cranberry, add a can of cranberry sauce at the start. For the last, brown your pork(ground or chunked and add to rice while cooking. Add greenbeans in the last 5 minutes. People don’t realize how versatile is.
Do you know of another oil I could use besides olive oil? I’m allergic to olive oil.
I'm so sorry to hear that! Allergies are so tricky! I have had good success with sunflower oil (if seed oils are ok?) Just make sure to run it through a soap calculator first! soapcalc.net/calc/soapcalcwp.asp Thank you for watching! 🥰
20+ years ago an acquaintance showed me how she rendered tallow & gave me a disc of it like the one you’re holding. I used half of it in my 1st batch of soap, and saved the other half in my freezer all these years. Can I still use it? Thanks!
Hello! Thank you for your comment :) I have read that fully rendered tallow that has been sealed correctly and in a deep freezer, should last forever. I have not tried this out and I'm not sure I would trust 20 year old anything lol 😆 Your best bet may be to try and render a new batch. Hope this helps!
Thank you! I’ve always thought it must be a waste buying the premixed boxed rice with all the extra unnecessary ingredients. Can’t wait to try some of these, and to check out some of your other videos!
Obviously I am biased, but the smokey BBQ rice is one of the best rices I've ever made lol I am very curious to hear your thoughts if you do try some! Thank you so much for watching and for the lovely comment 🥰
Hi! Thank you so much for this! Curious how long do you do the first rendering? And the second and third… so you use less salt but also less water the second and third rounds? Thank you! 🙏🏼
