San Francisco Fog — Time Lapse
A rather long one as I was hoping the fog would lift as the morning wore on, but it didn't break up until early afternoon, then reverted back. This was recorded over the course of about seven or eight hours and is four clips spliced together as I had to change the camera's battery three times.
I'm still trying to figure out the best way to expose these. I think that in the morning to mid-day, highlight-weighted metering is the way to go. I might try center-weighted next.

    Tnis film was too purposefully murky for me. I don't know whether to call it fantasy or surrealism or allegory or what. I don't care much for movies if i don't understand the point they are trying to make. That being said, i think the many comments about the catcher and umpire playing without safety gear are overblown or beside the point. I grew up in the 50's and 60's. People played pickup ball without safety equipment all the time. This movie is set in a time frame when the dress and actions of this pickup baseball scene could easily have happened as portrayed.

      A lot of the comments about Redford's age, the distance between the pitcher and catcher, et al, ignore the fact that this is just a movie. Illusion. Someone could just have easily complained that "not all those things could have happened in the course of two hours!" I think there are a lot of themes explored in the film... the corrupt aspects of capitalism, lightness versus darkness/good versus evil/lightness versus heaviness, "be careful what you wish for"... It's one of the few films from which I've memorized a line: "I believe that we have two lives-the life we learn with and the one we live with after that." Well, that and "God, I love baseball!"

    This movie is so corny and ridiculous: 48-year old Robert Redford playing a 20-year old; the Babe Ruth character pointing toward the horizon (as if), etc No wonder Roger Ebert gave it a one-star review.

    At 1:13, Duvall, umpiring, is right behind the catcher as Hobbs makes the pitch. Seconds before, Duvall moved well off the catcher, which is where he is again immediately after the pitch. Oops.

    • @patrickpower3992
      @patrickpower3992 Місяць тому

      Yeah... continuity. I wonder if there was only one camera (I suspect not), and the long shot was taken before or after this scene had been in the can and no one thought to make sure both scenes jibed exactly. I often think that had I known being a continuity person was a career, I would have done that because I spot these kinds of errors all the time.

    Why so many comments about his age? It’s a movie, not real life., and it’s for a small portion at the start of the movie. You could say the same about RR and Streisand in The Way we Were being high school students. Back in the 70s and 80s people probably didn’t want to see “younger versions” cast in their starring roles.

    The whammer didn't have much of a temperament pertaining to his emotions as a hitter. That was too easy, awful looking swing on top of that. Great wardrobe for the scene however. Captures the era, when baseball was the true national pastime.
