Weight?
That’s a good question. I’ve never weighed it. A lot more than stock….
1800 bucks for an old 1.9 tdi is crazy
Thanks for watching. It’s a TD not a TDI, it was fully rebuilt with receipts. 1.9 AAZ is very rare in USA. It was actually only $1400 but I had to pay $400 for freight to get it delivered and across the border.
How did the install go?
Install was the easiest part. Bolted right up. Power steering and cooling were the hard parts. Thanks for watching.
Your fuel gauge reads empty.
That means it’s at least 1/2 full. I’ve had it for 20 years. It’s never worked. It only reads when you get to 1/4 tank for some reason and I’ve never fixed it. Good eye tho.
Hey buddy it's Vansfrench 😀😀, I just realized I hadn't seen your UA-cam channel, I went ahead and subbed 👊👊👊
Thanks for watching!
Nice 😊😊
Thanks for watching!
What year of motor
I actually don’t know. I bought it off Craigslist and it was just advertised as “VW AAZ”
I got one exactly the same in a ban fine last summer Everything there, just gotta rebuild the motor , Brakes, etc
That’s awesome! As long as all the RS bits are there, motors and brakes are easy.
Привет из Казахстана!Исузу Axiom 3.5L, не знал ,что 3.2 это совершенно другой двигатель! Хотя они внешне выглядят очень похожи! Спасибо за видео!
Thanks for watching!
The 3.5 is supposed to be a much better motor and not suffer from the oiling issues that the 3.2 has.
2002 года выпуска,проехала 280600 miles, гидрокомпенсаторы постукивает, небольшой расход масла,а так за 6 лет езды ни разу не подвела! Хорошая машина!
whats the smog pump delete for and how do i do it on mine?
randomly came across your instagram, is this the second aas engine you put in your samurai?
It is! I’m still sitting on the first one with low compression. I have rings for it, suppose I’ll get to it some day. I need to put a new video up. It was overheating with the larger samurai radiator. Just did electric PS so I could fit the Acme radiator. I’ve actually been daily driving it. Sorta like driving a tractor. Thanks for watching!
Good morning Chris, are you on Plane Isuzu?
No, I’ve looked at it a bunch over the years but have never made a post or signed up for an account. I’m not in any of the Facebook groups either.
Nice one man. With that list of work done by you and time tested $8500 is a great price. GLWTS!
Thanks, I’d love for it to find a good home.
Nice job Chris!
Thanks!
Bonjour, on fait comment pour avoir une comme celle la
I’ll sell you one in Washington state USA!😊 Thanks for watching!
Привет. Я имею Opel Monterey
The most re-badged vehicle ever! 😂 I also have a trooper that’s the same. My favorite nameplate is the Holden “jackaroo” thanks for watching!
acme adapter is not avaible do they have FB page or where i can buy adapter thanks
Www.acmeadapters.com The website works great, I just ordered the radiator kit. Jeff is VERY helpful.
how do youchange the transmission ratios so your doing more speed for less rpm with the diesle
35” tires and 4:10 gear in the diffs should be perfect. It’s off road only so I’m good with the 5.29’s.
@@Chris_by_four how do you get the speedo to read correct
@@robertfoster7807you don’t! I generally use a speedometer app if it’s critical but rarely am I speeding on 35’s.
Izuzu trooper, trooper II there not bad, parts are probably getting hard to find. IDK but I'd say lot of them got the crush when prices went up on junk back in 2005-15ish. Sad to a lot good "antiques"went down that last road.
Yeah. A lot of cars got scrapped in that era. Funny tho, for me that was the “hay days” of Pick-n-Pull, $100 long blocks back then! Thanks for watching!!
Did you use stock fuel system if not what modifications were made
You have to turn the breather line into a fuel return line. It’s larger and keeps up with the flow better. Other than that, just the injection pump and a diesel style fuel filter under the hood. Thanks for watching!
Those trucks are amazing, my father has one, 1988, 2 door... what a lovely truck, he has it since 2001, the odometer went twice 999,999 and then stops at 420,000 or something like that, obviusly we had to made the engine like 3 times, the last one was this year and unfortinately it's the last repair, probably the next time the cranck couldn´t handle another balance, also we have to bought a new cylinder head, but runs like a kitten... great video by the way, greetings from Colombia.
Wow! That’s crazy! I’ve got one that’s about to hit 300k. Thanks for watching!!
Cool job, Chris. Little Beast.
Man so clean!
Embracing the offroad spirit means conquering the most challenging terrains while celebrating the thrill of the trail.
Looking great from your first video, well done! My son just bought an 89 RS 2 door that's been off the road for several years, going tomorrow to drag it back home, pretty rare trucks to find.
Wow! Lucky kid! I certainly couldn’t pass it up or let it get crushed when I found it. Surely the rarest car I’ll ever own. Thanks for watching! Let me know if you have any questions, this is the 5th first gen trooper I’ve built.
I have a silver trooper mod 93 totally original !!! ua-cam.com/video/3VzsIAmWgcQ/v-deo.htmlsi=NFw4G0d4CXPmy7jk
Is this Everett mass? I absolutely love this little monster!
Everett WA! Thanks for watching!
hello, what clutch do you use? clutch disc
Samurai clutch and disc, Centerforce stage 3. The stock samurai clutch slips with the 1.9T, too much torque
What a real shame, a nice rust free example of a trooper, I always wanted one of these
Yeah, clean examples are getting hard to find. Thanks for watching!
Took her sweet time firing off but she runs
So happy to see It live another day!
Thanks for watching! I’m pretty stoked!!
Love the round lights Chris!
Once it gets through state patrol I wanna try some modern LED, halos. Maybe even with the color change option.
Why wasn't there a grille?😅
LOL!!!

Will that altenator bracket work on the alh
I do not know, you’d have to ask Acme Adapters.
Nice progress. Ohh to have a shop! I've got an 88 4 door out front of my apartment on the street. Head with Jerry's cam in the living room, gas tank and rad in the laundry room, and the block is sitting 5 miles away ready for pickup when I can afford final payment. It's been a 3 year epoch but I'll figure it out somehow. Thanks for your video
Thanks for watching! You know if those cams are still available?
Nice one. Looking at the two Troopers side by each at the end of the video I wondered what size tire is on the donor? I think you said the RS has 31/10.5/15 right?
The donor car had a nice set of 31’s. Unfortunately one of them got a hole in the sidewall during the wreck and the tread pattern is discontinued. I’ve looked a bunch for one used one. Didn’t want to put mismatched tires on the RS so I splurged on the BFG’s. Still looking for that elusive 4th tire tho….Thanks for watching!
The flywheel that you use is the oem sj413 engine or not ?
The flywheel came with the kit and has been machined. Not sure what one they used but assuming it’s a stock flywheel as the clutch bolts right up.
@@Chris_by_four yes but the clutch that you are using is the suzuki one
Yes, that’s what I said. Clutch is stock. Flywheel came with the kit from Acme and has been machined to bolt up the the VW crankshaft.
What radiator did you use?
Trail tough aluminum radiator. It’s inadequate. I will be switching to VW cross flow kit from Acme. Need to relocate PS gear box 1st so it will fit.
I almost shit my pants when the dog barked.
LOL, sorry about that she likes to make an appearance.
I. Love the attached list… i need to get that going on all my projects
Lists are one of my favorite parts of a project. Thanks for watching!
Always a good time coming to your garage!!
Thanks for this video,I thought I bought the incorrect lifters hehe.
Thanks for watching!!
I found one in ban bad motor 100 % all there
You should rescue it!!!
Hey Chris! Great new project! The RS is certainly unique. Let me know if you need some hard to find parts. I have an Isuzu stash as well. Cheers! -Curtis
Will do!! I’d REALLY like to find a Calmini tri-Y header and a single 15” snowflake for my spare. Dream find would be a passenger RS seat to swap fabric to my driver.
Hello, I’m in need of an AC condenser. You happen to be hoarding one?
I have a black 89 RS as well! It’s such a fun and capable 4x4. So glad to see you saved it from certain death. Cheers!
Thanks for watching! I’m pretty excited to get it going. I’m making some progress so stay tuned for updates. Would love to see a walk around of yours.
Hows the diesel going? Im thinking about doing the same
It needs a bigger radiator which requires moving the power steering box to the outside of the frame rail and an FJ80 box…..I’ve mostly been wrenching on my Trooper RS. Honestly, if I did it over I’d do an Aerio 2.3 swap. Once I get the turbo diesel to not overheat I’ll still have to solve gearing issues if it ever wants to see the highway again. If you do the swap have your checkbook ready and do all the math and homework 1st is my advice.
@@Chris_by_four thanks for the headsup. I don't know what an aerio is, we never got them in England.
@@victormeldru The Aerio might be called a “Liana” in Europe. A Suzuki sedan from early 2000’s. Trail Tough in Oregon USA has the swap info on their website.
@@Chris_by_four I'll have a look. Thank you
Is the diff OK running the bigger engine?
So far, I’m running a 4:1 gear set and 5.29’s in the axles so ratios are ultra low and not too high stress.
I love your shop and love for these trucks!! I need to text ya back. Cheers!!
Progress is slow but steady!
I saw the video about the donor car and how it came to be a donor. It's great that you're going to be able to put some many parts from it into the RS. Those parts can now live a little more sporty life.
Thanks for watching! When I saw the RS in the junkyard my immediate thought was “I have everything to make this drive again”. Someone is coming to buy the seats today. I won’t let much go to the crusher.
