DCS World: Translational Lift, Take Off, And Landing Tutorial
0:19 Translational Lift
4:24 Basic Takeoff
12:54 Basic Landing
This video is a tutorial of Effective Translational Lift (EFT), basic take-offs, and basic landings.
Understanding and mastering the entrance and exit of translational lift is most important during take-offs and landings.
If you can master this, take offs and landings will be a breeze with helicopters in DCS World.

DCS World: Helicopter Tutorial Introduction
Переглядів 5 тис.6 років тому
Want to fly a helicopter in DCS World? I've made these tutorial videos for beginners new to helicopters and/or DCS World to help you learn the basics. I'm hoping these videos will help you get into piloting helicopters in DCS World. If you have any questions, ask away in the comments.
There is always some translational lift going on at a hover (wind, drift in hover point)... ETL is where that translational flow results in the aircraft completely outrunning recirculation of airflow through the rotor system and thus gains significant efficiency. Not unusual to be barely able to hover/become light on skids with full gas and load... a running takeoff gets enough translation through the rotor system to have some excess thrust to allow a climb.
Thank you, very helpful.
In this game, do you fly from the right seat or left? I'm confused because they have a passenger animated with hands and feet on the controls, yet there is no animation for the PIC. Kinda weird.
👌thx for video
4 years on and this is still gold, cheers mate!
Pretty sure this video just solved every issue I've ever had with flying, more so landing, a helicopter in DCS. I'm not sure if you have names for that method of landing, but I'm calling it VSI stepping and strip alignment, and it is spectacular. Thanks for this!
Your landing section may have just unlocked the key I've been missing. Some of this seemed absolutely magical to me, but it's something I'm surely going to be practicing in the near-future!
Flight sim 2020
few the uh1 in the 80`s , been awhile and boy can i crash in DCS trying to land.
Great video... but where are the "later videos"? 🙂
So sad that you did not make the second part. Very nice video
Best one yet, thanks man.
Its called ground effect, you are either in it or not. You can be in ground effect, but there is no in-ground effect. Helicopters don't go in-ground. Ground effect is, in simple terms, compressed air between the rotor blades and the ground creating a cushion of air that basically increases to efficiency of the flight surfaces of the heli
As others have mentioned, this is the most concise and clear explanation of these basics. I hope the maker is OK, as he hasn't posted anything in a while. I would love to see more content. There aren't many channels that I know of that specialize in helicopters in DCS.
Thanks my friend ...I'm new to DCS & have been struggling with the Huey ...I've yet to constantly achieve the elusive hoover ...it is a hit & miss. After watching how smooth YOU are ...I'm wondering if I have my settings wrong. I have good equipment (Virpil collective & throttle & a X-56 HOTAS & pedals) I use no assists ...do you? Do you have a video covering the basic setup for the Huey? ...I subscribed.
good video wish you had kept at it your videos are very well done
Great tutorial video! I wonder this technique would apply to any other helicopters other than the KA50s.
Very very well explained 👏🏻
I can' t stress enough how awesome and helpful this video is! Thanks so much for making this! It' s exactly what I was looking for in all the other videos I watched before that didn' t really feel helpful at all in the end.
Of course translational lift is not called that because you transition to it, then it would be called transitional lift. It is called that because you have translational movement, which is the correct term for forward movement or movement where the center of gravity changes location as opposed to rotation. Otherwise great lesson!
Best Takeoff and Landing video for the Huey I have seen yet. 👍👍👍
Stunning, WHAT a brilliant tutorial. Thanks a lot!!
best tutorial!
Thank you for your tutorial. i was trying to hook the cargo in the helicopter operations mission but couldnt get in a hover. this tutoria lhelped me.
Great video. I almost felt like I should be paying to watch this!
This tutorial should be part of the module when people are buying the UH-1H! Thanks a lot Sir! I've got this one in my pack. A must have. AWESOME! Greetings from France ^_^
Great video. Please do more helo tutorials.
AWESOME TUTORIAL!
Thanks a lot for this great job
Excellent tutorial 👌🏻
Close the doors before start the engine.
This is insane! It's almost like watching a professional tutorial / license class. Thank you so much. Liked & subscribed.
Loved your tutorial. It has been really useful. It's actually more skill demanding to operate the right way than going hard pushing the aircraft limits. Thank you for your nice video.
Thank you . This was an excellent tutorial. The best I have seen online. Love flying helicopters. Landings are challenging.....:)
👍
Best tutorial i find to learn take-offs, and basic landings.
This helped me so much in this game. Awesome video man.
Back in 1989I learned to co-pilot a Huey in-flight incase the pilot was or co-pilot was taken out. I never learned to take off or land, but was pretty sure that would be easier than learning how to emergency jumping into the seat of a wounded pilot. With only 20 hours of flight time - I did what I was taught to do very well. Your video was so helpful for me and my memory of my Huey. Thank you so much.
Did they program in settling with power?
how can I get rid of the red box in the upper left
RCTRL + Enter
Thank you. This helps.
T helicopter always starts spinning around when I try to take off I put some rudder in but it doesn’t seem to work. What am I doing wrong?
You have to put in a lot of counter rudder
Whoa, how do you add and remove the virtual controls indicator?
Lol in squad everything with helicopters has to be very quick and most likely always a j hook landing so as a squad helo pilot I’m always anticipating a rocket to whizz by
Great tutorial!! Best I've seen so far helped a ton thank you!!
Perfect tutorial thanks buddy
Love it! Thank you very much for this video!
Excellent video, thank you so much! Liked and subscribed in a heartbeat. :))
They huey made me punch my puppy in the head
I had an old Saitek 290 that I removed the self centering spring on. It made a HUGE difference for emulating a cyclic. I plan to add a rubber stick shift cover that I’ll trim to fit in place of the spring to protect it from dust and add a bit of stiffness. . I’m going to lube the ball and socket first though with a plastic safe lubricant. It’s an experiment and an in home adventure.
