[Lure Modification] Rebel Jumpin' Minnow
I cut off the nubs, but my drive still isn’t fitting. It drops in, but the cams won’t turn. Do I just need to loosen the cams? Or is it something else?
I found that in order to get mine to drop in you have to tilt it in front first and then rock it back down towards you. It should drop into place. I remember it being tight at first, but now works like a charm. This works well on the early 2000s outbacks. I will say if you are using the late 90s Mirage Classic Hobie it will not fit easily.
dude, you just saved me from buying an older gen 1 Revolution thinking I could just drop my new GT drive in there without modifying it, and voiding my warranty on the drive, thank you!
Glad the video helped. It's a shame that the "guides" have to be cut off to fit older drive wells. Definitely would not do if under warranty. If you can get a set off of FB Market place its a good upgrade.
THE PROMO CODE FOR FREE SHIPPING DOESNT WORK ANYMORE?
you want your sps to sink. sinking models get better action, with up and down trajectories instead of just beelining, and the only difference is the internal weight, which you can mostly replicate with bigger hooks and splits. the bill size seems to have very little effect on how deeply these plugs dive. marginally billed plugs can get down 10-15 feet. those bills will be a sizable portion of the length of the plug. these plugs are designed to be subsurface swimmers, not getting that far down into the water column. you've really got them diving down deep if they're 3-5 feet. i use 1/0 mustads and 2/0 vmc. the 1/0 mustad is 5x and actually bigger and heavier than the 4x vmc one size up. really, put them on the scale and see it for yourself. the one size DOWN mustad weighs about a gram more. i want to say the standard sp hook is 3x and it will not stand up to big fish in current. test them in clear water and see what you like, and switch the plugs depending on how deep you need to get. color isn't super important but that said, i catch almost all of my fish on bone, white and yellow, because i fish first light because that's what works with my schedule. SP_ is not what i throw when i know there are big fish. it is my go to when there are not a lot of fish around, when they're not on topwater, and when i know where and how deep the structure is so i can work my plug over it in current. very rarely will i find local fish that are picky and haven't seen a ton of bait in their lifetimes who are hitting something over an SP. silversides, sandeels, juvenile herring, even peanut bunker, the sp is a very good presentation which also casts well and is dirt cheap. if i told a new fisherman to get three plugs this year it would be a topwater pencil or spook, an sp for the water column, and a bucktail or a soft plastic to get to the bottom.
Does a stik shad sink better ?
can you please share the links for the downrigger set up..Is this the 1071 or 1073dp?? also would the rail hold the 1050?? I need this set up. really nice. Thanks for sharing..
If you want to mark line for depth, just cut a slit in the top of a marker and just pull the line through. Thanks for the video
What kind of seat upgrade u did on your kayak? Looks like ascend seat, where did u buy it? Did u modify it to make it fit?
How do you paddle w it positioned right where your oar enters the water?
Great video! What was the name of the stream you paddled into and out of the lake on?
I am not entirely sure, but looking at were he gets put out, and he mentions it is about 30 feet and drops to 50, it looks like he paddled down northwest bay creek, and into northwest bay. He most likely launched out of the launch on 9N.
@@Beriothien007 Thanks so much! I am not familiar with that launch, is there a launch for the creek on 9N? I have a Old Town Topwater 120 Kayak fully loaded with downriggers, fish finder, etc. so it is a heavy boat and I look for easy access points to bodies of water. Thanks so much for you insight! It is greatly appreciated!
Yes
How did you remove the original stand that it came with? There is a bolt underneath but it has some type of plastic grommet super glued to it so I can't access it....
you arent rigging them correctly.
A real modification would be by using inline singles..
That sure is one way to do it! Thanks for watching.
i just got that scotty mount and just put it on my kayak. does the transducer ride under the water or skim on top? just wondering.
I always placed the transducer so that it is under the watcher. Mine was probably about 4" under when paddling along. Best of luck this season! If you haven't already, please subscribe.
Gomexus has better design
Definitely use your own hooks when you buy them near the canal they will even tell you that the hooks on them are to small and the fish will bend them ( know from experience ☹️)
Absolutely! Always switch out the hook/split rings on these, especially for the canal.
Too bad no close up
Agreed! Not my best camera work. Always learning.
Great info. Just upgraded an older Outback with the 180 mirage drive. I did not know I would need to cut the alignment pin. Spent a good hour feeling like I made a huge purchasing mistake. I feel better now. Thank you!
Glad this was helpful, thanks for watching!
Are inlets good shark fishing locations? (For blacktiph)
Hello Reagan, I have seen lots of Bonnets and Bulls during the summer. Off the beach there is a fair amount of Spinners chasing the large mullet and menhaden. As for Black Tips I cannot say, but would imagine you could get them out past the inlet opening. Thanks for watching and if you haven't already, please subscribe!
Fast sinking or regular sinking for canal?
The shads in this video are from our channel sponsor. They are a moderate sinking speed. I typically throw stick shads when I see breaking fish or when they are tight to the edge of the canal. Slowly retrieving it has it ride about 2-4ft down. If there are hungry stripers on bait of that size, they will come up for it. If you want to go with these visit below and use promo code "JACK" for free shipping: They are sold in groups of 3, but combined are still l less than 1 of the name brand lure: reelpowerhandles.com/products/3-stick-shad-shadd-swimbaits-in-2-sizes-5-colors-hooks-rings-not-included?_pos=1&_sid=dfc62fced&_ss=r&variant=27696945758285
What rod do you use and which do you prefer al gag or savage
Hello! Thanks for reaching out. You'll want to get something capable of pitching at least 6oz for jigging the canal. Needs to be able to handle a 4-5oz jig head and a 1.5oz gags whipit fish body. A great entry level rod are the tsunami trophy series. They have an 11ft rod rated for up to 10oz! Also it has the back bone for large fish and 50lb braid mainline. www.tackledirect.com/tsunami-tstiisc-1102xh-trophy-ii-surf-casting-rod.html
What’s the product number on the mount that attaches to the gear track? This is exactly what I’ve been looking for so I don’t need to drill the Downrigger into my kayak. Thank you for the help!
Headed to Murrells inlet in about 1 week. Can’t wait. Been many times but never on a kayak until this year. Hoping to locate some flat boys!
Best of luck! It is a great area. Really recommend trolling Mirrolure to your spot while drifting for flounder. Should be some decent Specks...etc around. Hit up Perry's Bait and Tackle near the public boat launch. They have great information of the inlet where to target...etc.
Thank You for the video on the Rebel ‘Jumpin Minnow’. One thing I must suggest is to be careful of the weight difference between original hooks and split rings and replacement hardware. Dramatic weight differences can and will affect action of lure. Also lure is put together from 2 pieces. Lots of action fighting fish, banging rocks etc. can cause slight separation starting at lures end usually allowing water to enter. This will cause the lure to sit in the water deeper and not have the crisp side to side action needed.
Hello Ronald, Absolutely! When I fish this now I do so with as single treble.
Any tips on casting ? this thing cast like a boot
Unfortunately, like most jointed plugs they don't have great range. They work well with the fish close in busting on the surface or when they don't show along structure. You can get a little more distance by alowing more leader distance from the tip of the rod and loading up the cast more. For me, if they are busting on the surface I go with a longer range lure like a popper or Yo Zyuri Hydro minnow works well or Large X Rap will sail far for you. This works well with big bait in close. If they aren't showing try prospecting with a minnow style plug or Canal Favorite, jigging an Al Gags Whippit Fish.
I have a Gomexus knob on the way for my Stradic FL 5000
Good video
Thank you for watching!
Hey boss how far down do you file that nub section on the GT Drive. ?
Hi Victor. I cut the nub down until it was flush with the rest of the spine (Took it clean off). Has worked well. It is important to note that this mod will work with early outbacks ( 03, 04, 05...etc), but not the other Hobie mirage models (Hobie Mirage Classic). Hope this helps!
Awesome. I have a 04 outback. Looking to buy the newer drive. Cheaper than buying even a used Hobie. Would you recommend the GT drive over the V2 drive? Appreciate your help!

Just curious what if you don't have a cut hook, is it fine or nah?
What’s the biggest striper ya caught on these knock offs? Curious about the integrity... great instructional video btw
They handle large fish. Just don't trust the rear joint. Only use the 1st two hook attachments. These are the same lures Cape Cod Charlie's used to carry. Cheeper but just as good action. So want to go there and paddle!
Its a beautiful area! Highly recommend it!
Great Video! Do you think I could work that trolling technique in my Jackson Big Tuna being it's not a peddle drive? I'll be down there next week on vacay and might want to try that out. thanks!
Hello Brian! Thank you for watching. Yes this set up would work perfectly from a paddle kayak. Just place your rod in a rod holder set horizontally and paddle away. I would recommend trolling the banks on your way from the launch to towards the mouth of the inlet. Once you troll up one trout there will usually be many more in that area. Best of luck!
@@aquabass2117 Great I will give it a shot next week and let you know how it goes! So that's off the launch and to the left right? thanks again!
Also, did you notice the fish jump on your video at the 47 sec mark? Looks like it could have even been a trout hitting top! I don't have a fish finder so I need all the help I can get.........
@@brianthompson5912 Sure thing! Best of luck! If you want drop me an email at: AquaBassOutdoors@gmail.com I can forward some more specific info on spots in the inlet.
@@brianthompson5912 You bet! There was tons of mullet pushing through the inlet then. Specks, Blues and reds were nailing them left and right. Lots of bait!
Nice video and some great tips. I am fortunate to call Murrells Inlet my home waters. Heading out in the morning.
Thanks Cliff! It is such a wonderful area. It was a blessing to get to visit this summer & hope to return to fish it again. Thanks for watching and please subscribe.
That factory handle is far better than that aftermarket you installed. Just my .02
The factory handle is solid, but I prefer the feel and free spin of the power knob. As with all accessories it's all personal preference.
*Used this reel for inshore and crankbaits, has held up like a champ>>>**allabout.wiki/rl4v** The Rover casts further than any round reel I have ever used. Has exceeded all expectations and the drag is phenomenal.*
These knobs are a piece of junk do not buy them. The bearings dont fit snug the whole assembly is wobbly as hell. Very unhappy with this
Hello Anthony, Sorry to hear that your knob malfunctioned. That should not happen. Have you contacted the company?
*I have had this unit for several years. Trolled with it and caught a couple of Spring Chinook salmon when I first got it>>>**nub.best/80el** I recently retired and have been fishing for Kokanee with a buddy. We have had very good success fishing at 50 & 60 ft with two of these downriggers.*
Awesome man! Glad to hear that this unit is working for you and that you are getting some nice fish!!!
What rod and reel combo do you use for magic swimmers at the canal?
Hello Ian. My first set up that I found works well on a budget is a Tsunami Trophy Series 10 footer (Rated up to 10 oz for jigging too). I paired this with a Penn Battle II 8000 with 50lb Power Pro. Best of luck this season!
@@aquabass2117 thanks very much

They are made by someone else I believe. If you reach out via the contact page at ReePowerHandles.com They could answer more directly.
