We explore historic places and see what we can learn from the past.
Greenville Presbyterian Church in Donalds, South Carolina
Today we're at Greenville Presbyterian Church in Donalds, S.C. and it's actually in Greenwood Country and not Greenville County. This is a gorgeous church that church members have maintained and modernized. And we're here for the cemetery which has a lot of revolutionary war veterans buried there, including 5 of my ancestors.

Today we explore Badwell cemetery in McCormick county South Carolina. It, along with the Spring house, are the only remains of Badwell plantation. Badwell plantation was started bu Rev. I'm German Scottish Irish and was raised Presbyterian so this was barking straight up my tree. A nice history lesson indeed. Cheers!
Thank you for sharing this wonderful video. I love all of our veterans and our war heroes.
Hi Tom! I was looking on UA-cam to find an old video of Donalds with my grandfather in it but instead found this great video. This is my family church and I have always loved the history about it. Andrew is my 5th great grandfather and James is my 4th great grandfather. James is the one I joined the DAR under and the rest of my Seawright family is out there as will. We have a Seawright reunion every year in the summer at the church if you two would like to join I can get you more info on it. We also have a Seawright book that has a lot of information in it and there is also a good book that was written about the church with some of the history and stories in it.
Tom, very interesting video. I’d like to meet you sometime. Would you be willing to meet at Greenville Presbyterian Church someday?
Video on the Battle of Long cane?
So the Belfast area was actually called London borough at the time
Hi. My name is Pat Reeves Morgan. My mama, Nell Seawright Reeves, wrote The Saga of the Seawrights. I really enjoyed your video! I remember the story of the ones who froze fleeing the English from her book. Very cool! Thank you!
Thanks for posting this. James Wardlaw mentioned that his uncle and local revolutionary war leader, Samuel Moore, was buried in this cemetery beside his mother, Margaret Moore Wardlaw in an unmarked grave. I descend from Samuel's brother, Eliab B. Moore, who took over leadership of the regiment after Samuel was killed by Bill Cunningham in 1782. It's very interesting to me to see this place and hear the history.
The bosses channel,lol
Fascinating and extremely interesting. My aunt once told me of relatives we have in pennsylvania . They were settled there in the late 17th century. I don't have a name but they could either be Egan or maybe Foster. They emigrated from the north west of Ireland maybe under some land deal as they were given land. God bless and thanks.
We guys I want to thank you for sharing some of our history. Really enjoy spending some time with you.
I'm just learning of the channel. Please don't stop doing videos. I'll promise as you keep doing this it will grow.
Tom, you should come down and look through the cemeteries in Edgefield, where I am from. 3 really old and still "active" ones (if you will).
I'm from McCormick , now live in Savannah Lakes about 2 minutes from Badwell Cemetery. My mom and dad have many stories about this cemetery. They use to go there with their friends when they were teenagers and when the original gate was still there. There's a ghost story that a troll now haunts and watches over the cemetery at night.
Very Very interesting reat video PLEASE do more like these
Modoc Baptist church. I’ve been trying to track my family’s history in the area and access the area of their homestead, however I’m not familiar with area. There’s a creek named after the family name, so I know the general area. I’ve traveled there a while back, but didn’t have much luck finding anything except the cemetery at the church. Would love to ask you guys some questions.
Keep waiting for you guys to do more of these, where you live there is lots of history that would interest many folks..
We are frustrated with Colorado. They’re trying to ruin it. It sure looks pretty there.
Must have been just before innoculations against Smallpox caught on. I only had one because I was visiting another country.
Lives. Written. In stone. Stone lasts a long time. People. Only. A fleeting glimpse Some. Sad. Some. Eventful. And. Some. Make their mark in history. Most important Be nice. And be. Honest.
Very interesting.
Thanks again very well done
Thank you too!
Great again, I find this very interesting, some of my relatives owned what could be called a plantation in Saluda which was sold off piece by piece over the years...If you come across a Adams it very could be my kin....Abbyville Ga was named after one of my grandmothers it seems. My family moved from Saluda to North Augusta during the depression and then on to Atlanta where my father and our family was raised.
Great video, I love local and regional history its what made us who we are keep up the good work....If you ever get through Saluda look up the old Adams house its pretty cool and the Adams I think still own the local grocery store, at least they did 20 or so years ago
It's funny you should mention them, I've got a friend that I used to work with from Saluda that's an Adams. I'll have to ask him about it.
Love love what you both are doing. Tom you and I are cousins. Andrew Seawright is my 7th Great Grandfather and his brother Samuel Wilson Seawright is my 6th Great Grandfather. Also Lieut France Johnson, son-in-law to Andrew is buried here. His wife Margaret Seawright Johnson Miller is my 6th Great Grandmother. I understand she has a marker here. My husband Tommy and I will be visiting the Greenville Presbyterian Church Cemetery this Saturday 24th. I am so excited. We live in Texas where the Seawrights and Stevenson’s settled. I would love to meet with you if possible. I agree that I am here because of God and each and everyone of my grandparents good or bad. I have a long list of Cemeteries we will be visiting on our trip this weekend. Starting in Hartwell, Ga. then onto South and North Carolina and finishing up in Booneville, Tenn on owe way home. Would love for you and Regina visit some of these cemeteries. Keep up y’all’s wonderful adventures. Wish I could join y’all in your treasure hunt.
I believe 2:00 on Saturday will work. If we stay on schedule and God willing Tommy and I will be there with bells on.
I've found that Virginia and Pennsylvania ancestors were very prevalent in the upstate area, particularly migrating after the Revolution. The upper triangle was newly added to the state with ceded Cherokee land. Land bounty pay for revolutionary war service is how many of my ancestors ended up in the south. Thanks for the good work!
So nicely done...
I'll start making a list of places for you two, as Florida is a bit far for field trips these days! Lol Thank you both for the video. From Long Cane Creek to here...genealogy is quite something! Thank you to Tom for recommending this channel, I'm enjoying it already
Thank you for sharing! I live in Greenville, happened to be in Abbeville today, took the time to make the short trip from there to Badwell Cemetery. You filled in some missing details, thanks again.
We're glad you enjoyed it!
ua-cam.com/video/ouxtoczvYZQ/v-deo.html heres the video talking about longcane creek early settlement.the post office was named indian hill or that was the name before troy was introduced 😉
Thinking of new places ive heard that troy sc was originally on the creek bank of longcane below the old longcane church were there was an old grist mill and a postal/General store there what i heard growing up down there
That would make sense, and I've seen the old mill. It's still there or was last time I went there but that's been a few years back! That probably is where Troy started but our next video will shed a little light on where the town is now.
My favorite new channel thank yal
