Where are you located at?
No more music please, thanks for the video and it's good information. But there shouldn't be music during a talking video or really ever.
Hello, I am a player who does not use finger grips, but at my pro shop they told me that they do not recommend them because the bridge between the fingers breaks and damages the ball. Is this true?
Why are you adding music into a talking video?
Hi there
Just slugged 3 balls today. Definitely better fitment. I was a size down with an oval slug added. Improved feel and faster release. Less squeezing.
Thank for the insight I think imma do vacu grips on my new equipment
The JoPo's are superior to Vice, Ultimate, and Turbo. I had problems with all 3 and switched to JoPo and never looked back.
I have felt the most secure fit with the Turbo Quad mesh fingertip inserts. They are the only ones that feel like my fingers aren't going to slip out of them. I get cold hands a lot which makes my fingers shrink. That said, I am still one who shoves my fingers almost beyond the first knuckle into them. Unfortunately, the pro shop I am getting new balls drilled at soon says that they only use Vise. I've had Vise grips nearly a decade ago, and they became hard and slippery. What would you recommend in the Vise line that might work similarly since they don't have any of the ones with bumps inside?
In layman terms
how does this tranlate as haveing thum pitch. . under palm, away from palm, little left or little right...looks like straight in with no pitch...
Yeah I grew up without thumb slugs. They didn't have them and so I never needed them. When the thumb swelled, i would just use baby powder and when too loose i would use a rosin bag for more grip. But I'm trying to be optomistic with the modern bowling world and am thinking about trying some jo po thumb inserts. We will see.
Do you recommend a tool to take out the Jo Po system? Mine seems to be very hard to take out at times.
Sorry guys, but I’m totally confused.
My new ball has turbo grips and they have a more pronounced ledge on them than my other balls and it’s hanging up on my fingers. Is there something I can do to fix it?
Do you still use finger tip drilling, or smi-finger tip.?
So which size works best 1/ 64th or 1/32nd for the first bit?
It depends on what you’re trying to accomplish. If you are doing vacu grips and use 31/32 size grips. Then you want the hole size up top to be 1 1/32. If you are using 7/8 grip size. Then I’ve found that a 15/16 bit works best up top. Hope this helps you with your question.
very hard to do this episode and not get into "thats what she said" jokes, lmao🤣
Ive only been at a pro shop that can duplicate a ball once. Ive moved between 8 states in different parts of the country and struggle to find a competent pro shop. A consistent thumb would be nice
Never had an issue with finger swelling or thumb swelling been competitively bowling for over 20 years with some tournaments doing 40 games in a weekend. If you are swelling in the grips I would think it's because you are putting a death grip on the ball.
Can I thumb slug be put in a urethane ball
Yep
Where is your shop located at in case if I ever want to stop by if I'm in your own area
They still make the contour Ernie Schlegel contour finger inserts
Thank you very much for the video. The music seemed to be getting louder and louder. It's distracting. But thanks again for the info, guys.
I use the Universal and on 3 or four occasions the thumb slug has slipped out far enough to make impossible to release the ball. Does this also occur with other inserts? In that particular ball I put so much glue in it that it is now a permanent thumb. Back to using tape.
Thanks for the tip. I have little problem with my thumb. I feel that my thumb hole is little big for my thumb, should I refill the hole and redrill correctly size???
Absolutely
Thanks guys very informative. My question to you is is there a difference between Vise and Turbo as to which are softer? Thanks.
Sorry for the late response. Turbo is a half size different in comparison. I’ve used both and I feel they are both fairly similar in softness. Maybe vise is a touch softer. But not by much in my opinion.
I just switched out all of my finger grips with the Vise PowerLift/Semi .. I love the "Semi" side .. awesome grips. I got tired of having to tape my fingers all the time, so I fine tuned my sizes down so I have a pretty tight fit. They are a bit tight right now but will loosen a bit over time which means they should fit perfectly after a few more nights on the lanes. I am so glad I changed out my grips like I did. I ordered bulk Vise grips on Amazon and re-gripped all of my bowling balls.
Turbo sucks. Mine fell out last week and this week. The locks wear out and chip and no longer lock into place. Complete garbage, RUN AWAY
I wish I could afford a ball to put some sweet grips in 😂
It’s called saving
@@bradmorgan3797 thank you captain obvious!
Ebay auctions
I have a few I don’t use anymore how many pounds are you looking for?
@chrissmusic5528 13 or 14 lb my first ball fingertip grip I bought a zen soul and I don't like it. I've been looking in ebay but I haven't had the best of luck with auctions. I know this wasn't for me.
If my grip hoie is already 1 1/16". To Vacu l would have to drill a 1 1/8 hole first?
Not 100% sure why you’d be using 1 1/16 for your grip hole since the grips are made to be in 31/32 holes or 1 1/32. But if that’s comfortable for you, by all means continue that. Yes, 1 1/8 would be what we recommend for your vacu hole but it can always be played around with for your comfort
What is the best way to remove them, and do you have to use like vise glue, or does any super glue work when you glue new ones in? Also what is the best way to clean the hole up once you remove the old ones?
I use a flat head screwdriver to remove them, then clean the hole with a knife. I just use super glue
At least the way we do it in the shop, there is a tool to remove grips that Innovative Bowling Products makes. However those are pretty pricey. Some sort of pocket knife or screwdriver could work to be a money saver. In terms of the glue, we use Vise glue in the shop but any super glue could work. Only thing to be concerned with is the Vise glue does dry a lot quicker compared to most super glues
@@andrewjensen8609 thank you.
@@quinnbostic thank you.
Turbo 2 in 1 thumb slugs are the absolute worst choice,Vice has glorious clear slugs that let you out BUT Jo-Po is King of interchangables
Explain how the 2 in 1 is horrible?
I just got my first jopo. Can't get the damn thing out but it's really comfy
@@HippieP629I bought the tool because I couldn’t remove my JoPo but after working it a bit I can get them out now
I’m a beginner and that is BY FAR the most clear and understandable explanation of those things I’ve yet seen. Thank you!!
Do people size down on their finger inserts when they are going for a "vacuum" install? I use conventional 31/32 sizing and I don't really imagine my insert size creating any "vacuum" on my fingertips -- they just aren't quite that tight.
That’s mainly coming down to what you’re comfortable with. The general recommendation would be going a full size down from your normal grip. However for Justin, he’s using the same sized grips that he was using in regular grips. You can always play around with sizing. If your pro shop has the vacu grip sizing tool, that’s the best way to experiment with sizing or just switching grips in drilled balls
My rgumv holw ia nor siewxtly below my fingers, it is abouit 3/4" to the left is this normal? all the videos I see show the thumb hole directly below the finger holes.
Hard to say without really seeing your ball and hand. There are some cases where this does happen and it’s not wrong or a bad concept. If you’re really concerned, we’d recommend talking to your pro shop operator about it. Worst case scenario, you talk with a different pro shop for a second opinion
Have you seen difference in tilt or access rotation between the different types of products ?
In terms of axis tilt or axis rotation, not really. In terms of overall “rotation” or RPM, power lifts will help you gain a little and same with Vacu. However, we recommend what you’re most comfortable with and lets you be at your best game possible!
If you were an oval or none grip person before and went to Power Lifts or Vacu Grip, I’d think you should see a change in those but the most change would be a pitch change and even a possible span change with the pitch change. Then you would see a difference for sure. Sorry for the late response. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the info, most people know nothing about different grips.
What are your thoughts on no grips?
It’s definitely an option. If it feels more comfortable to you and you don’t lose a substantial amount of performance, it’s definitely a good idea!
I averaged 235 for 21 games with no grips That cheetah guy who has all the cheetah records won a regional with no grips Cheers
McCune lol He just walked in, it’s his son I believe
When I was having trouble getting out of the ball in college an old pro told me to ditch the grips. It felt fantastic for me with that ball. It’s far less forgiving on bad shots but forced me to get out of the ball correctly instead of flicking it like I did with grips.
Tell that kid to hold still, all that rocking back and forth is making me sea sick!
When I lived in Illinois, the Cherry Vale mall area always had a lot of traffic. Watching the PWBA event there last year brought back a ton of memories.
if the vise breaks inside your ball is dead until you get it removed from the thumb
Another thing I like about switchable thumbs is that my thumb swells while I bowl (more in summer than winter) and I can't get it out of the ball. Instead of playing with tape, I can switch out the thumb and still have a thumb that's drilled for me and be able to move it ball to ball.
Ive been using the Jopo and I really like it. the black color comes off on my finger some times idk if that's a defect or if other people have that issue. i'll have pro shop sand it again next time I see him.
What's the purpose of these thumb grips. I've never needed a thumb grip over the years.
Do you throw multiple balls? Do you bowl any spring or summer leagues? I like being able to switch the thumb when mine swells instead of playing with tape.
@Nevin Kinzel hmmm. Interesting. Never thought about it like that. If my thumb is slippery I just use some rosin, or if it swells I use baby powder to help make it slide out easier. Never thought of it this way. So do you use different size thumb inserts then for this? Yes I always bowl with atleast 2 balls. Going to get a couple more soon.
@@brianmizway9324 Yeah, I have two inserts. One is my normal thumb size and one is my swelled size. My thumb doesn't swell enough in the winter to matter, but since it has been warming up again I really notice it. Even baby powder or "shrinking" my thumb by wrapping it with a napkin and putting it in the ball doesn't work for me. So, I switch out the insert for the larger size and I don't have to worry about it.
@Nevin Kinzel thanks again for the idea. I just thought people did it for the heck of it. This is the first perspective where I can see this makes sense. Thank you.
LOVE my JoPo’s
I had both Vise IT and Turbo and broke several thumbs with both and both felt somewhat loose feeling. Out of frustration I had my PSO order some JoPo thumb system and absolutely love them. They are robust with a solid feel. Only drawback for me, is I have to use a removal tool to change inserts as the click is so pronounced it is very difficult to remove with only my thumb. But they are solid and highly doubt these will break.
I’ve used 3 of the 4. This is my personal experience IT: never used. Turbo: decent system. Used this the longest, but the tabs in the bottom are prone to wearing out or breaking over time, which is what causes them to stop locking in. This is what made me switch away from this system. Ultimate: uses a locking system on the side. I like this idea better than turbo as it is less prone to failure. The slugs felt less secure and would actually slide up and down by a couple millimeters while in multiple balls. Not sure if this is the tolerances in the moulds, but I did not keep this system long as I did not like the feel. It just felt cheap to me. Jopo: hands down the best system I have used. Uses a threaded system with 3 locking tabs in the bottom. The threaded system will hold the pressure of throwing the ball a lot better as it is much more surface area. The locking tabs are more sturdy than turbo. It is so secure that it feels just like having a standard slug in the ball, which i never had in the other two systems. I see no reason to even glance at any other system after trying this
Regarding those Turbo tabs wearing away, are you talking about the bottom of the rail in the outer sleeve or the little plastic pieces that stick out of the bottom of the inner/thumb sleeve? I'm assuming you mean the inner sleeve. Those little things don't inspire a world of confidence, but at least getting a new inner and thumb made is much easier and cheaper than drilling out the outer and replacing the whole system. About how often did you have them break? Thanks in advance.
@@matthewstoker224 If I remember correctly, I have had one tab on the inner break off, and have seen it with at least one other person. Over time, they wear down and become more prone to the little tabs getting weak and either wearing down completely or breaking off. The outers have all remained fine. Don’t get me wrong; turbo is a good system. Like you said, you can always just drill a new inner and the problem is solved. I would never tell everyone they need to switch to JoPo because it is the only good system. If someone is looking for a new system I dang sure am telling everyone about it though lol
@@jacobwhite7845 Thanks for the heads up. I know many people will put a piece of tape on the side of the inners to tighten them up if they become loose too. If the drillers in my area start offering JoPo I'll definitely be giving it a shot next time around.
I had to drop to 14 lbs, and went JoPo. I had IT before, no issues ever but I liked JoPos secure design.
I really like the Vise Grip IT but i heard the JoPo are really good too
JoPros are great. I had an issue with 1 ball years ago when they were fairly new. Ever since they tweaked the mold a bit, zero issues.
