    Beautiful scenery and airplane. I haven't seen a Super Cub with leading edge slats before! I wonder how they compare to a Sportsman's STOL kit in slow speed performance.

    • @AKCub907
      @AKCub907 2 місяці тому

      Thanks... The Sportsman STOL leading edges are a great addition to any off airport Airplane. The Back Country Slats are far more aggressive and NOT needed. Here is a robbed video of Wayne Mackey early SQ's with the same Back Country slats I have. ua-cam.com/video/NltMFihRMZI/v-deo.html Stall at super high AoA. But at those high AoA you can't see where you are touching down. But still keep them on for safety sake (stall/spin).

    Awesome video footage! I lived in Alaska back in 2005-2007. Did quite a bit of flying up there. Best scenery by far of any place that I've flown. I wonder though, how does insurance work for gravel bar operations? Would they cover a mishap there or can you expect higher premiums with that type of flying? I do a lot of backcountry flying in Idaho. But I stick to forest service airstrips, nothing shorter than 1,200 feet to date...with tricycle gear airplanes though.

    • @AKCub907
      @AKCub907 2 місяці тому

      Agreed👍 Alaska has some of the best scenery if you have an airplane to get out in it.❤ Alaska off airport "Hull" Insurance is certainly spendy. Glad to hear you are enjoying the Idaho Back Country. You guys deal with Density Alt that we don't have up here. My highest has been 6500' Its an eye opener. ...Thanks for the kind words.

    The best of your videos I have watched!!!! Hands down. So interesting, scenic, delightful, covering so many natural wonders. Yeah, one of those big rocks could ./ would flip your plane. The seals were uber cool. Maybe so many of them live there bc 1. the food is abundant for them in that micro ecological nook and 2. the predators can't get to them very easily. ?? I loved all the touches you added, personal pics, fun pics, pics giving scale of ice remnants, so many different glaciers in one compact area. Yeah - awesome video!!! Wow.

    • @AKCub907
      @AKCub907 4 місяці тому

      Thanks Greg, Super kind comments. This is one of my favorite also because of the good time I had with family. And having 3 glaciers so close and big chunks of ice all around. Think the Seals like resting on the ice as it hides them from predators?? Either way I have seen them resting on top of ice near other Glaciers also.

    • @gregb3457
      @gregb3457 4 місяці тому

      @@AKCub907 But are they always so dense in numbers, compacted in one area? That mystifies me. So many, so close, right there. I've seen them crowd onto a rock. They seem to be social creatures. Not hunted so much anymore, eh? Yes, I like the personal touches. Surprised it is so low watched. ???? Algorithm?

      Hey Greg, if you are asking if I think the Glaciers are retreating ? YES, in the 40+ years I have lived in Alaska the local Glaciers are definitely retreating. No question about it !! But think that has been the case for last 10 or 15 Thousand years ??? Any bigger question is for others to debate.

    • @gregb3457
      @gregb3457 4 місяці тому

      ❤ thanks so much! That's all I was looking for. A local's perspective. My personal opinion is that it is cyclical and eventually will come to straights. And probably reverse for an age. This opinion is based on evidence from earlier times in my life, listening to both professionals and locals. One man I listened to recalled climbing on Mt. Ararat in Turkey as a boy with his father. His tribe of fellow locals had a history of visiting the glacier there and in 1905 there was a powerful regional long term multi-year drought in play. The glacier had receded enough to almost completely expose The Ark, Noah's Ark. The whole village knew plainly of its location having an oral tradition of passing the knowledge from generation to generation. The regional drought information stuck with me.

      @@AKCub907 4K Is definitely worth it, youtube forces a better encoder I believe it's called VP9 and it allows for more bitrate ( more data per second ) and less artifacts from compression. You can check that if you right click and click "stats for nerds". And from personal experience with a 4k monitor it's much much cleaner, I can't notice the individual blocking/pixels like I do with 1080p therefor it's more immersive on a big screen. Thanks for uploading great videos, I aspire one day to be able to do the same hobby.
