Mt. Rainier Northern Loop
Переглядів 1 тис.4 роки тому
From Sep 1 - 4 2020 we hiked an extended version of the Northern Loop at Mt Rainier National Park. We started at Sunrise, hiked to Carbon River, followed the Spray Park loop then took the Northern Loop trail back to Sunrise. My baseweight was 8.4lbs without the camera, 9lbs with the camera. Here's the UL gearlist I used: lighterpack.com/r/4v7x8e According to the Rainier backcountry trip planner...

This is my review of the SWD Superior 30L hipbelt-less pack after a full year of use and abuse. This review focuses on what the pack looks like, how it carries and what kind of trips I've found myself using it for. If I missed anything, feel free to ask in the comments. www.swdbackpacks.com/ Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with SWD and I bought this pack with my own money. I just wanted to pr...

45 Miles In Sespe Wilderness
Переглядів 1,8 тис.5 років тому
I spent 3 days hiking through Sespe Wilderness in November of 2019. Sespe is a hidden gem of Southern California backpacking with miles of trails. The only thing stopping me from planning a bigger loop was my limited vacation time! Gear list: lighterpack.com/r/evj465 Planned route: caltopo.com/m/PUAN Edit Sorry for the silence at the end, UA-cam hid the video from viewers until I muted the copy...

Ultralight Backpacking in Ancient Lakes WA
Переглядів 1405 років тому
First trip of 2019! It felt great to get out and stretch our legs again. Saturday was warm and beautiful, Sunday was cold and wet and beautiful. Ancient Lakes is a great destination for a first time backpacking trip, or for more experienced backpackers who want to take a relaxing, low mileage trip.

9.8lb baseweight Gear list: lighterpack.com/r/gb85im
THis is the worst, mismatched audio I have ever heard
nice rig, nice kit. the only real difference between us - i pack my hammock shelter w/ accessories. still under 9lb base for most seasons in SW usa
Zach, i finally got around to looking for a YT vid on this pack.. i've had mine for over 3 years and w/ a base of 7-8lbs in spring, it's all i need. seems solid so far, no issues. turns out, this is the least popular SWD pack, but if you know, you know.
I did this same route in reverse. First night at the hot springs. I think I spent 4 or 5 days hiking in April. Nice vid.
OH LETS FUCKING GO.
Great video brotha. I love Los Padres but I don’t think im capable of doing something so strenuous. I admire your courage!
Thanks for the CalTopo link!
Bro, you slept at little mutau, then went back to Johnston ridge trail! Wow. That’s a crazy hike from start to finish! I enjoyed your video!
Looks like a sweet trip. Love the edits.
Looks like that's a Hudson's Bay blanket on your couch 👍🏻 🇨🇦
This trip was really well shot. Enjoyed it thoroughly.
Thanks for this. Exactly what I needed to check out the pack in detail.
Great video, we are backpacking that area but only a 2 day 1 night about 20 miles
cool vid. 2400 or 3400?
Thanks for watching! That's the 2400. I don't use it as much these days except for winter camping, but its a great pack if you're looking for something with a UL design that can handle heavy loads.
Dude! Amazing Route!!
Holy shit dude... This is by far the best video I've found about the Sespe Wilderness. I live in Ojai and was planning on doing the Gene Marshall trail (piedra blanca trail) though to reyes creek. But then decided not to due to COVID shit. I was typing out a comment asking about trail directions cause I couldn't find them online, then I expanded the desciption. I've honestly probably gone to piedra blanca over 30 times through my childhood, if that gives my praise any credibility. Anyway, I was psyched looking at your trail mapping. Then I resumed the video and fucking sleigh bells plays! Super great video, did all the campsites have running water?
Glad you enjoyed it! When I was there in November 2019 all the campsites had water, even the unmaintained Little Mutau campsite had enough of a trickle to fill up. I'm not from SoCal but my understanding is that was a pretty unusual circumstance. I still needed my entire 6L capacity for the Johnston Ridge trail which was like a 10 mile stretch that was very exposed and had no water the whole way.
@@zachalexander7082 I just watched your video. Great video. Any chance you can share the starting trailhead and the name of the hot springs? My GF and I just might do this trip. Thanks in advance. Darryl
Man that looks like a fun hike
Great video. I hope someday to have my kit dialed in like that. ✌️
Great gear breakdown! How do you like your Hexamid?
Thanks for watching! I've only had the Hexamid out a few nights so far so take my experience with a grain of salt. I'd say its a great fair weather bug shelter, but not a good choice if you expect lots of rain, wind or moisture. I use it primarily in the summer months, when the weather is good in Washington but the mosquito pressure is high. The sewn netting makes the livable space unbeatable for the weight, and it provides enough rain coverage to keey you relatively dry in the occasional passing storm. I think the Hexamid is a great choice for all year in the Southwest, the summer months on the East Coast and in the Midwest, and the summer months in most parts of the Pacific Northwest. The rest of the year when its raining nonstop in the PNW I'll continue to use my larger tarp shelter. The Hexamid is a condensation magnet in cool wet conditions and doesn't provide enough coverage in sustained rain. I took it out for an overnight in the Olympic National Park rainforest in October just to see how well it would hold up, and as I expected my quilt was quite wet by morning. That said, its hard to find a 12oz or less shelter without making compromises. UL is all about bringing only what you need and nothing you don't.
@@zachalexander7082 Thanks for the insight!
Nice Gear Video Zack. Slick work.
