BMW M135 - A Hot-Hatch Contender?
It's been over 10 years since BMW joined the Hot-Hatch game with the original BMW M135i. Since then, things have changed, and whilst the BMW hot hatch still exists, it has lost a couple of cylinders and over a litre in engine capacity.
In this video, John Marcar tests the new 2024/2025 BMW M135 to see if it still feels as special as the original variant did back in 2012.

No other driver assist system is as advanced as Tesla’s. A Tesla will drive you home….not just keep you in your driver lane.
I've always wanted a 12.9" iPad strapped to my dash when I DRIVE. THANKS!
SUVs do have a purpose when your tall ! not falling into or struggling to climb out a car that feels more like getting in and out a go kart, especially when your old
Lovely review and an amazing car. Some examples go for 100k now. A future classic for sure.
Makes my Ford Fiesta dated again
Tessla recognised BYD's superiority over its cars when it had the U.S. Government slap 100% tariff on its import in America. Teslsa knew BYD would outsell it in its home turf.
That adv rider at 15:45 had a bad day because you didn't wave back at them😅
maybe i have missed it. taking the risk that i have missed you talking about it, I must say: it would suit you well to tell people that the fruity noises of the car are not actually the car itself, but rather artificial sounds played through the speakers. Kind of Buyers Deception if u ask me.
Can you tell me what came in the box? Just bought one from offical seller but seeme to be a returns.
I had a test drive in an BYD Seal AWD, it was an awesome drive & I was really impressed. But this car really needs to be available as a hatchback to make it user friendly. 40/20/40 split rear seats would also be a great addition instead of 60/40 which are just rubbish & saved about £20 per car!
Yeah,4.9 not 5.9 to 60. Bit of a glaring error in a hot hatch review I think!
Lol setting up the steering wheel on the screen is annoying? Sorry but you don't need to do that all the time and there are roaming profiles for a reason. Mirrors the same including the possibility to save a position for reverse. Wipers no problem. Hit the button once and adjust if needed
Exterior looks decent, though miss the old design headlights. Interior is a serious downgrade from the previous f40 which was best in class
Are you kidding, the interior is 1000 percent better than the F40. I have an F40 and I am upgrading to the F70. It is amazing.
@ I’m very serious haha. I mean, I’d say majority of reviews agree. Motechs main dislikes were the interior quality. F40 quality is by far and away superior in terms of material quality and ergonomics. The fact they’ve got rid of the idrive is a massive negative!
@@slen6293 100% Agree
Do you consider the BMW M135 a hot hatch? Would you pick one over a Golf R or Civic Type R?
4.9 not 5.9 😂 looks perfect… great review by the way
Nice, thanks for the awesome review.
Completely agree about the value. Great video.
At 0:55, bad editing mate.
7 seats aren’t pointless when you’ve 5 kids and a dog 😅
I have accidentally turned the steering wheel heater on exactly twice in two years of owning the mk8 I quite like the haptic buttons. But I’m fine with going back to real buttons. I definitely prefer the integrated screen & really hate that huge screen. The new front looks nice. I like both the 8 & 8.5. That giant screen is awful. Really awful
its not a van
Great review and I definitely want one of these. Looks like an absolute hoot to drive especially in Insane acceleration mode
I’m on my second P Tesla in 4 years, and use autopilot on all motorways trips, and I have NEVER had to turn it off due to it getting confused!
Want one!
I love the type R but hearing "the best FWD performance car" just doesn't do it for me since there really isn't many if at all fwd performance cars. Performance is and will always be RWD or AWD. So having that FWD title means little to nothing 😆 Still love it and the Integra type S
i saved a Jag...2018 FType R..in love with my car
Great video! What watch ya wearing?
I loved it❤❤❤
I was torn between the M3P and the Polestar 2 Performance. In the end I went for the Polestar for a few reasons. The biggest being the brakes, I feel like the Polestar brakes have a bit more bite to them and just gives you a bit more confidence in them. It also has stalks, which I know you can probably get used to on the Tesla, but I felt it was a bit of a risk I wouldn't get on with the idea. On the B roads I think the Polestar might edge it a little even though it i heavier ( and feels heavier ). On the flip side the tesla obviously has the charger network, and has a slight edge on 0-60, however given 0-60 isn't something as important to me as the overall driving experience I wasn't fussed about that one. The seats are better in the Tesla too. Both great cars, just subtle differences so best to try both and decide.
it looks way way better inside especially then anything else in this price range and stupid Dacia Duster hybrid are more expensive and have interior like some tractors with those cheap hard plastic
GTX.......better called the GTS with the S of Sleep
The MK8 GTI, clubsport, and R all had different front bumpers. They gave all of them a “facelift” for the 8.5 which means VW is admitting they seem to be struggling on the design of the front bumper facia. That’s now six different versions of the facia. I mean come on. The MK8 clubsport is the best looking facia of all of them in my opinion.
That’s not necessarily true. Even the MK7’s GTI, R, and TCR all had different front bumpers, and they were changed for the MK7.5’s, but VW was not struggling to make sales on those generations. The front bumpers, and other items, are changed to differentiate generations/facelifts, as well as spice them up a little bit. But you are correct in that the MK8’s have had some of the lowest sales in VW history of the Golf iterations, so VW knew they needed to make a change.
10 years in Australia
185 litres per kilometre? That's burning oil rig territory. Pretty sure you've stuffed that up with the golf r stats
This is how you make a flagship sports car with a MANUAL (and no F@#$@#$ V6 engine OR front wheel drive), Chevrolet, Lexus, Nissan, Cadillac, and Honda.
I watched right to the end before giving a like, and a sub
The bulging creased fender treatment ruins this design. Ugh.
Wow that’s pretty nice video! If you allow me to get this clip and can I introduce your good review with Korean subtitles for golf lovers here on my channel? ❤

Setting wipers on screen? Nope. Hit wiper button on steering wheel once, then use left scroll to change the speed. No need to even look at the screen.
I have a 1200 and the seat sounds similar on very long rides. I added an Airhawk seat pad, and it's bliss. 750 miles with no pain. Highly recommended.
@@riggingengineer amazing! Thanks for the tip. Will look out for those
@@driven.videos They're not cheap, but worth every penny.
I have a id3 GTX Performance on order, 322bhp to the rear wheels.
@@richardharris6313 great choice!
My GTX is built and on its way to the UK.
I have the same one on order, just hope they don't walk out on strike half way through putting it together.
I thin Zwickau where the EV’s are built aren’t yet on strike, i might be wrong though !
*WHOOPS* - there is an error in our ID3 GTX 0-62 time. The correct time is 5.6 seconds. Apologies for any confusion!
Elon Musk is doing to Tesla what he did to Twitter. I have a Model 3 and it's a great car, but the link with Musk is a turn off.
Did the 0-62 say 4.1 on the GTX?
Yes, well spotted. This is an error on our part. The correct time is 5.6 seconds. Thanks for highlighting it! - John
Has anyone noticed the huge proliferation of shameless EV shill videos , mostly for BYD that look like they came out of the CCP/PLA propaganda department? Many of the reviews are by bonkers Aussie and Kiwi propagandists hyping $70k Utes as the greatest vehicles ever designed. Others are wacky videos of Chinese EVs being driven under water or for 700km on a charge when real range is more like 200km. Reminded me of marketing advice Joseph Goebbel's (Aka 'The Poison Dwarf') : “Repeat a lie often enough and it becomes the truth..." Will Chinese EV makers help you're when left stranded with no way to diagnose or repair a $70,000 vehicle you will for years be making payments that's been sent to the scrap yard?, and Why would anyone NOT rush to send their money to China and finance a communist revolution in their country? For over 75 years Communism has worked great wonders for China and accomplished incredible feats with the pandemic! As such, why would anyone NOT want communism to transform their country and their lives as well? "Chairman XI in 2019 preempted my keynote speech to Chinese automakers to say: 'There's 650 car companies, I want to see about 150 by the time we get to 2025, 'We're all brothers so figure it out.' It was kind of a sad audience after he stopped talking. Today, there's about 160 car companies..." ~ Sandy Munro
I’ve had both the GTi and the R and for me the Golf R is just far superior. The AWD in England’s crappy weather and roads is ideal
GTI Clubsport is much funnier car to drive, R's are so boring...
@ I had the 7.5 TCR with APR stage one (including R600 intake and turbo elbow) and I would still choose my stock Golf R every.time.
@@haydensmith888what did you dislike about the TCR? Just the lack of traction all year round? Feel like TCR is peak looking golf
@ don’t get me wrong it’s absolutely fantastic car, we absolutely love it however in the UK with our poor condition roads and in particular long wet winters the AWD on the Golf R just makes for a much more comprehensive offering especially when you want to have a bit of fun and push on a bit. I’m a massive Golf fan and I love the GTi heritage but for me AWD beats FWD for my needs and use case.
Somehow you forgot to mention the power output of the ID3 GTX and also that it's rear wheel drive (important things especially for a performance orientated car) and also you showed 4.1 seconds 0-60 which is obviously wrong... Otherwise I like the comparison between the 3 models.
In the last 5 years I've had an Audi TTS, Honda Civic FK8 Type R, BMW M140i, Toyota GR Yaris CP, Seat Leon Cupra290, Hyundai I20N, Kia Stinger 3.3 GTS and a Ford Fiesta ST Performance Edition. Been in my Tesla Model 3 Highland LR AWD Dual Motor for just a week.....Brand new and its already my favourite car of the lot ! And the best thing I'm pretty much running it for nothing due to getting £1k in Tesla credits! It's a fun as my previous cars....and although a petrol head i thought i would miss engine noise and pops and bangs.....I don't think I'd ever go back ! I love it 😀
I just priced up the clubsport in Volkswagen Ireland website. With all the decent options it comes out at 80k (euro). Madness
Ouch! - but then doesn’t everything seem to be so much more expensive than we all expect these days?
The gtx is 42k or thereabouts with most options so not far off half price if you don't mind electric 🙂
Although I like both the GTI and Golf R I prefer the GTE or GTD. Would never go fully electric.
GTD is still a superb choice for a fun car with sensible economy. Good choice!
As an ID3 driver (not even a GTX) who has also driven a GTE and used to own an Octavia VRS diesel, the ID3 is far superior. If you want pure driving go for the lighter GTI but the GTE is unnecessarily complicated and compared to the ID3, trying to get it off the line is horrible. I would definitely go full electric.
@@simondehaas8784my niece had an ID3…sorry but didn’t like the looks and felt soulless. She swapped it for the normal golf and lost a lot of money doing so. I will never go electric…I can’t charge at home and keep my cars for a long time.
