[ASMR] book tapping and haul with birthday books! 🎂 satisfying tingles, peaceful and relaxing
✨ I'm thankful for everything I have received, and this is in no way to brag, but to share what I got given. As a gift to you, I in turn have this asmr book tapping and scratching video. I hope you enjoy! :)
In today's video, I have collected together the books I was gifted for my birthday (which recently passed). As a little haul for you, sit back, relax, and listen to the satisfying sounds. This video includes the books Downfall by Inio Asano (manga), Lonely Castle in the Mirror by Mizuki Tsujimura, The All for the Games series: The Foxhole Court and The Raven King by Nora Sakavic, and Yellowface by R. F. Kuang. With a range of titles, genres, and narratives from more emotive, depressive stories, to sport x mafia, to translated Japanese magical realism / fantasy, and the literary scene, race, and identity theft. I think I'm in for a ride haha. Thanks for watching, I hope you enjoyed 🤍

      Thank you! Just searched it up and I didn't realise it was originally serialized in a magazine and made into a movie. I might check the movie out when I have time, I'd be curious to see what they made out of it and how they compare. I hope the narrative is pulled a little tight, but if not I wouldn't be mad either. Thanks for the information and I hope you have a lovely day too :) ☀️🌼

    They sounds interesting. I read Breasts and eggs by Kawakami and I liked it. People often search for a meaning into books or other artistic expressions so maybe some books are considered odd because apparently nothing happened. Thanks for the video 🌸

      @koicoww Місяць тому

      Ooh, I am think of reading that Kawakami book, I just need to find the right time to pick it up! As it's longer than her other books, I want to really sit down and absorb it haha. That's true! Maybe the books being odd are the point - in the sense that they're different and make you confused and interested. I like how they keep me engage and can surprise me, so that is true. Rather than finding deeper meaning, it could be the reaction itself that is the point. An interesting thought! :)

    One book that has made me cry was the last ever high school book to read. It is called “A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Hosseini. This book is set in the end of Soviet invasion, start of the taliban coming in and taking over. It was obviously set in Afghanistan, and oh my goodness, it was such a good book but it made me cry like 4-5 different time.

    • @koicoww
      @koicoww 2 місяці тому

      I have heard of that book, thought I haven't read it! I can imagine it being quite heavy and emotional, due to the setting and story-line. Reading stories about war are always painful, but they really give a different insight and perspective. I just read the synopsis, and I'm so curious about what is going to happen to the main character... Would you recommend the book? I know the author also wrote The Kite Runner, so I feel like it would be great for me to read either one of those books at some point, as I seen many positive reviews. Have you by chance read that one too? :)

      Glad you enjoyed the tapping :) Hopefully you'll be able to find some time to read, and if not that's okay too! It can be hard to find some quiet time to focus and read. All you can do is try your best! With a reading list, it's easy to be disappointed by the books you don't get to. But, I like to remember that I will get to them with time, and I'm happy with the ones I did read - even if it's a couple of pages or a couple of books. I like to remember reading one page is more than reading zero pages, so maybe you can squeeze in some time somewhere? If you do get a chance, I hope you have fun reading! and if you don't, I hope you have a lovely summer holiday!

    for romantasy, i think you might really enjoy "this is how you lose the time war" ! it's short and has those subtleties like you mentioned :) as for spice in books... i generally don't like it because i find it too corny lol, i think a lot of people write it in a way i don't enjoy :/ in theory it could be a fun narrative tool, esp if it's relevant to the character and the story (i've actually seen ao3 writers be more masterful about this than published authors) but i've yet to run into a full on graphic smut scene in a book that i've liked ⭐

    • @koicoww
      @koicoww 2 місяці тому

      Ooh I have heard of that one! Though, I didn't know it was classed as a romantasy :O All I kind of know about it is that I should go in blind when reading it, as to not spoil anything. Plus, I will probably cry whilst reading haha. Now that you have mentioned it, it's definitely higher on my tbr list. I agree about the spice. I think it can be okay if done right, but a lot of the time I find it to be overpowering or not match the tone of voice of the rest of the book. So, I'm not sure what's going on with all the spice these days. I rather the subtitles in relationships, like when someone holds hands with someone else, buys them their own boat, and invites their family over - that's the stuff that makes me scream LMAO. you're a ⭐

    • @strawberrysunhat
      @strawberrysunhat 2 місяці тому

      @@koicoww exactly, it never matches the tone and it's just like "what is this doing here" bc it's just pages and pages of intimacy and it feels like we as the reader don't really need that lol ... i think booktok readers don't realize there is wattpad for stuff like that ._. and AHHHHH exactly ldkjsklj and this is why kaz/inej will always be famous. <3 <3 <3 i reread those scenes too many times to count. there's a line somewhere about how he'd do anything to see that laugh of hers and i've not been the same since.

    • @koicoww
      @koicoww 2 місяці тому

      @@strawberrysunhat Literally! When the pages just go on and on, I think please just fade to black already!!!! It sometimes ruins the whole immersion for me, because why am I there watching ;-; it's crazy Dude, that line is everything <3 All my annotations whilst reading that book were like "I'm screaming", "I'm going to cry" and "End me" lmao. Those short thoughts hold so much weight, I love them so much. One moment that I liked was near the end when he is in a fight, and she has followed him and is lurking in the shadows, and he hurting but he shakes his head to tell her not to help. He knew exactly where she was, and he knew she would step in if he was hurting, and I want to cry. I saw a reviewer talking about Bardugo's writing the other day saying that she "wishes Leigh Bardugo just writes a romance novel without the fantasy elements, as the way she writes the relationship between her characters is what's strongest in her work" and honestly I couldn't agree more. Of course, I haven't read any of her other series or novels, so I don't actually know. But based on this series alone, it's the found-family and the dynamics that really work for me - that I would love a slow burn romance from her. Not sure if you would agree, but I think it would be interesting (no spice tho hopefully lmao). Although, I like the world building and the magic, the action doesn't always do it for me. I just like seeing the character development and want to see the characters happy

      @@koicoww LITERALLYYYTHEJDJ like why am i WATCHING 😭😭😭 esp when it has nothing to do with the story! for example, if it’s a romance novel and the character is overcoming issues with intimacy, and some of the scenes are uniquely describing how they overcome those with their partner, i’d actually find that interesting and would enjoy reading it as it’s relevant and actually part of the story…. it’s not just randomly inserted intimacy the fight scene was so painful… to say “if you really cared about me, you wouldn’t follow” and then know what inej would ignore that and come anyway… they can read each other like a book. it’s especially gratifying bc at the beginning of the book, inej doesn’t really know where kaz stands with her and it’s the only reason van eck let her legs not get chopped off??? to go from that to what they have at the end…. and honestly that’s interesting bc i would agree, it’s the relationships between the crows that make the series. i do wonder if that might be diminished by a lower stakes setting like high school or college though… and frankly speaking the shadow and bone romance was nothing compared to six of crows romance. even her writing style improved by leaps and bounds, i found it difficult to believe it was the same author!

      @@strawberrysunhat Yeah, a lot of the time it feels like it's just been added in for some type of fanservice or for the authors fantasies. So, it is what it is, I'll just skim read lmao Every time you add in extra details, it hurts me even more, because they really are like that. They hurt me so much. It's even when he always does a quick look over her to check if she's been hurt or to be honest I don't even know why he looked at Inej at the end of Six of Crows (I thought she knew something, but she didn't) but I guess it's because she's his safe space / the person he relies on. And like you mentioned, about her not knowing whether she'll be of any use to him if they broke her legs, absolutely broke my heart. I mean, as the audience we knew that wasn't true, but the doubt within herself is devastating. Their whole relationship could've gone south, but they tried their best. It's literally making me emotional thinking about how they could've miscommunicated and sabotaged their whole thing, but they knew each other so well, and gave each other space, but still needed each other. I'm going to go throw up Yeah, I hear you about that. There needs to be something else going on that builds interest, for example in this series, each one of their histories plays a big role in giving context to the situation. Although, a bit trope-y, I'd like to see her tackle something like childhood friends to lovers or something - so there's still the history between them, but of course times have changed and they have changed. Who knows if she ever will write a romance, as her name really strives in the fantasy genre, but I wish it was a side novel she released haha, like an indie passion project. I still think I will check out Shadow and Bone at some point, but it's interesting that you mention her improvement / change in writing. I might even check out her newer novels like Ninth House/ Hellbent or her new novel The Familiar, before then too. I'm curious, as I've heard good things about Ninth House?

      I enjoyed my time reading this, and absolutely flew through it! The quick pace kept me engaged, and honestly I really like the world. It's definitely not one of my favourites as I felt like some of the emotions were a bit up and down for me, and I wish I felt more connected to the characters. That being said, this is great for a light-hearted, entertaining read - I binged the majority of it. After I finished this, I went to binge Iron Flame - which I didn't hate. But I definitely think the first book is tighter and more concise. 💕 I would love to hear your thoughts about the book, and what made you think it is one of the best books you have read? :)

      @koicoww 2 місяці тому

      @@hannalovespink That makes sense! There's definitely a lot of action that goes on that is exciting, and it was cool seeing Violet complete these activities and succeed. It did also make me want to bond with a dragon haha. For me, it was also a great introduction to romantasy, and gave me a taste of the things that I liked and didn't like. I'm not sure how much fantasy you read, though I remember you liking some Russian lit too, but if you know of any books like Fourth Wing, I'm open to suggestions as it did make me eager to read more. The beginning of Iron Flame is definitely slower than Fourth Wing, and the length of it is daunting, so that makes sense. I will say that a lot does happen in that book, but also doesn't - so, I think it's a great idea to reread the first book, and revisit it later. Plus, there is no rush to read it right now. As I read them back to back, I think it helped me continue on with the story and already feel immersed into the world. So, when the third book comes out next year, I wouldn't be surprised if I go back to them both (maybe not reread, but just remind myself of them), as so many things occurred. Like you said, I like the world that Yarros created, so it makes me want to continue with series. Plus, it's just a entertaining, fun read. I say fun, but I also cried over one of the characters 💕I think the books are a guilty pleasure series for me

      @@strawberrysunhat Exactly, I think it's nice to have a balance with reading easy and harder books, depending on how you're feeling. As sometimes I want to read for fun and enjoyment, and other times I want to cry and feel emotional wrecked (lmao) - it just depends on the day. I usually try to read something lighthearted (like a romance, manga, and maybe now romantasy?) when I am in a reading slump. And something more thought provoking or something that makes me look at a different perspective on a day to day. As then I can sit with the thoughts and take my time with it. But there's not right or wrong with reading, as long as you're reading haha I'm scared about reading Crooked Kingdom, as then the duology would be over. White Nights by Dostoevsky is actually set in the summer. White night is a phenomenon that occurs in locations close to Polar circle, and Saint-Petersburg, where the story takes place, is one of those locations. In June and July the sun doesn't set completely, and even during the night hours it's not really dark.

    I wouldn't say that all russian literature is dark, although there are many examples of that (Dostoevsky's entire bibliography being the most obvious case). But War and Peace by Tolstoy is an epic historical novel more than anything else, and it doesn't really go into dark places psychologically speaking. I read it couple of years ago and it was really great, the story was captivating and there were a lot of deep, interesting and quite modern thoughts. My favorite russian classical writer is Ivan Goncharov, though. The Same Old Story and Oblomov are masterpieces and are actually quite humorous. And my favorite classical russian book is A Hero of Our Time by Mikhail Lermontov. It's a portrait of a very problematic person in the beginning of 19th century as seen through the eyes of other characters from various perspectives. It's also quite short, so I can recommend checking it first. Source: am russian

      This is quite informative, thank you so much. I've still got lots to learn about Russian literature. Is there a book that you would recommend to a beginner reader/ someone getting into Russian lit? I know the books can be quite long, so would you suggest just diving completely in, or is there one that is a little easier? Haha Also, your source gave me a good laugh. Though, it makes sense and is probably true.

    • @kendaskigchannel9063
      @kendaskigchannel9063 3 місяці тому

      @koicoww I guess I would start with the short stories. "Peterburg Tales" by Nikolai Gogol is regarded as one of the foundational collections of stories and influenced a lot of Russian writers. And I also recommend "Evenings on a farm near Dikanka" by him if you want something more mysterious. Then there's Alexander Pushkin, who is mainly known as a poet and regarded as the key writer in Russian literature. He is "The Sun of the Russian poetry", as the saying about him goes. But he also wrote prose and his "Belkin Tales" series is good for beginners. I would also recommend reading his "Evgeniy Onegin", a novel in verse. It's nothing short of genius, but I don't know how good it is in translation, a poetry can be tricky to get right.
