thanks for these videos, had an old hp Chromebook lying around and this was very helpful
what if I install windows10, the sound, WIFI , USB port etc. all works?
Thank you so much for this. Just got a very cheap Dell 3189 Chromebook and followed all the steps up to here before installing Linux Mint 22. Works great.
Is it possible to install Ubuntu instead of galliumos on this model of Chromebook?
what if we are unable to select it?
Bro I’m stuck on menu someone help me please bro
I just finished this. It works and even though Gallium comes with chromium I was able to update to Chrome and Brave browsers. I had a problem with the main download but I was able to download from one of the other listed mirror sites and make a USB that worked. The part about Rescuezilla turned out to be not helpful since that was not needed for a personal machine set up. Still, thank you for this information. I literally played this on my main computer as I updated the Dell chromebook.
Os verification is disabled when its enterprise enrolled
you're a king, king!
jesus, i never had a video which solved my exact problem before, THANKS!!!
Another mystery solved with an excellent presentation on how to update the firmware with MrChromeBox! I successfully completed this step, and I went on to load Chrome OS Flex from USB. Although, not being familiar with the UEFI shell, I had to search for a video on how to change volumes from the UEFI shell to FS1: then cd efi then cd boot and finally bootx64.efi Without these videos I would never have been able to complete my project. Thank you again! 🙂
Another excellent presentation on the mysteries of Developer Mode, and how to get into Developer Mode! Thank you! 🙂
Excellent presentation! Who would have guessed that we needed to look for a write protect screw! Thank you. 🙂
you can just install gallium OS without rescuezilla
I did but now I want to upload chrome os how can I install chrome os
wow! and wow! You must take out that wp screw(didn't work by just removing the screw in my case), and sand where the screw came off a bit, then, I used this to boot my tails os usb, works perfectly!!! You can't boot tails on chrome os, no matter what in my experience. The moment I could boot from usb, I skipped everything else that didn't serve my purpose, but seriously, thank you. God bless you! My EOL endoflife chrome was risen on Easter Sunday! Amazing the timing!
Man, you are life saviour no doubt
This actually worked for my Lenovo 500e gen 2
How to on the baclkight
the easiest way to tell if its a WP screw is to look around the screw see ground pads on it and the screw is normally a really big black screw
i cant believe there is a specific process on a specific chromebook that i have from removing the wp screw all the way to installing new os. i love this community. thanks dude. you are awesome.
Kefka is a Final fantasy 6 character. Mine is named Yuna/Auron or something... Which are Final Fantasy 10 characters Random trivia, but I'm a dork so I know offhand :( Also, thanks very much for the video, it worked exactly right on my Acer Chromebook, the command line stuff is always tricky to me even as a long time user.

Excellent series of videos. Very informative and clear. Ran into a few issues, but with these videos and some additional research I got the job done. 👍
I removed the screw but it still won't let me enter developer mode
Wat if you don't have the reboot with usb
I'm getting a hardware write protect enable do i need start over ?
Please let me know if this Chromebook 11 3180 SSD card or any other store can be installed?
Very helpful videos here, up to this point my process is a bit different. I followed the steps up to boot from USB at which point my preferred flavor of Linux is different and I installed zorin OS and it works like a charm. Thanks for the help
can you dual boot?
Now you can only download ChromeOS Flex instead of Cloudready. Will this process still work using ChromeOS Flex?
Any suggestions if the write protect screw is stripped?
Fucked homie
Get out your Dremel tool and drill a small hole in the middle of the screw head. Find Allen key tool that can be tightly fitted in the hole. Clean the hole and the Allen key tip with rubbing alcohol. Epoxy the Allen key into the hole, and let it cure overnight. Unscrew it the next day,
nice video
Good stuff man! Very thorough, much appreciated. I installed this on my Lenovo n21 and it works flawlessly. Thanks again.
I found your videos searching for the CR50 WP overwrite, sadly, you only have done WP screws, but, thanks for showing the rest of the process, maybe someday you will do a CB with CR50 WP, keep doing your great job.
