Installing Billie Bars with a BAK Revolver X4S Tonneau Cover on a Chevy Coloradop ZR2 Desert Boss
I’ve decided to install a roof top tent on the Colorado ZR2. I also want to keep my Bakflip X4S tonneau cover. I decided to try the Billie Bars low profile bed rack with the 8” risers. This will keep the RTT low and hopefully allow me to roll the tonneau cover open. Let’s see if they work…

Custom Goofing OffRoad Logos on 2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Desert Boss
Переглядів 43Місяць тому
I like having the Goofing OffRoad logo on my vehicles. It sparks conversations everywhere I go. Having great, custom designed logos was important to me. Tony at Yak Graphics has been designing custom logos for everything from race cars to classic restorations for years. He worked patiently with me to come up with the perfect colour combos to show off the logo on the new Colorado ZR2. Here’s the...

Hi-Lift Jack Bracket Install on 2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Desert Boss

When you’re driving your ZR2 off road or on an overland trip then you or someone you’re with might get stuck, or high-centered. You may need to use the Hi-Lift as a come-along, or to jack up a trailer tongue. The Hi-lift jack has lots of uses on the trail, and it’s better to have one and not need it, than it is to need it and not have it. In this video I’m going to show you how I mounted the hi...

I like the Revolver X4S tonneau cover on my Power Wagon so much that I decided to put one on the ZR2 as well. In this video I’ll show you how to install the cover in-place with the stock sports bar that comes with the Colorado ZR2 Desert Boss trim. For more ...
How to Install LED Backup Lights on a Mammoth Overland Trailer

How To Repair the Trailer Jack on a Mammoth Overland Trailer

When I bought my Mammoth camper trailer it had a really thin trailer jack mount on the draw bar. It very quickly got out of round and became difficul to use. While we were at it we took the opportunity to replace the jack foot with a wheel, t...

      Some people are really good at lining things up in the centre by sight. I don't have that skill, so I measure things. I use the blue tape to give me somewhere to make a mark in the middle, that I can reference when I'm doing the install. When I'm finished I can remove the blue tape and then there's no mark left on the part I'm installing.

    Make a proper trail test. You may compare the Tremor to the PW. They are both offtoad HD. The raptor compares to the TRX. The PW had only 33" tires. It does climb on trails. Carli E-Venture suspension or Dominator suspension, 37" and you're good to go. Drastically different.

    Thanks for the great informative video. I have a 24' Power Wagon as well. Besides the the Thuren rear track bar , do you have Thueren front track bar as well? I see you have 37s on your truck. Does it require any kind of trimming when you put it on? Thanks.

    • @goofingoffroad
      @goofingoffroad Місяць тому

      I have other plans for the front suspension, but as far as I know, you don't need a new track bar up front with the standard suspension. The 37s fit on the truck just fine, with no trimming and no rubbing. Granted I have 37x12.5 BFG KO2s. Other brands of tires may be a little bigger, so I can't speak to those.

  • @malenurse1999
    @malenurse1999 3 місяці тому

    Okay I understand that they are both trucks. 🛻 the raptor did beat the power wagon in all your tests except for the “ditch test” now I could come up with 15 tests that the raptor would lose at if you would like that are more important to me. You picked tests that you knew that the ram would lose. So I’m not really sure what the point was? Depending on the trim levels of the trucks you are also talking about you could almost buy 2 power wagons for the price of one raptor. Oh well everyone has a different opinion and or idea on what makes a truck better or good.

    • @goofingoffroad
      @goofingoffroad Місяць тому

      I agree - everyone uses their trucks for different things. The Raptor was terrible at towing, for example! I picked tests that proxy the sort of driving I typically do offroad in the trucks. I'm curious what tests you might have done - I may include some of them in the next comparison.

    • @goofingoffroad
      @goofingoffroad Місяць тому

      The new track bar is actually functional and the drop bracket changes the geometry of the bar and thus improves the way the axle cycles up and down, to keep it more in-line with the frame, which in turn stops the back end of the truck moving around so much. That's not "snake oil", it's physics!

      @goofingoffroad Місяць тому

      It will depend a lot on tire pressure, how much load you have in the bed of the truck and how slow (or in my case, fast) you are driving across the bumps. If you're not having a problem then that's great; enjoy your truck as it is and save a few bucks!

    What did you do to seal up the huge gap between the end of the tonneau cover rail and the outside of the tailgate? Hard to explain but there is no gasket provided to seal the last 3 or 4" of the outsides of tailgate where the tonneau cover does not cover. Huge area of water just to rush into the bed

    • @goofingoffroad
      @goofingoffroad 2 місяці тому

      The cover doesn't need to be flush at the end of the bed closest to the cab. The rear end of the tonneau cover should line up so that it overlaps the tailgate, making a seal and not leaving a gap.

    Great video. I initially purchased just the air hose kit from Amazon to work with an air compressor that was portable, but it just wasn't pushing out enough air fast enough, so I really couldn't use the 4 hose system the way I intended to. Now I have the on-board ARB air compressor in my engine bay while using the 4 hose system by EZ Flate and it's working very well. I agree with you, you need that on-board air compressor when you're on the trail and you're in need of a quick air up or air down. I would probably recommend the portable one if you travel a lot, and want to have an emergency kit. It's never bad to have different protocols. Question: for you: would you recommend the recoil system or the hyperflex system? I got the recoil version but kind of kicking myself. Thoughts?

      I'm glad it's working out for you. Personally, I prefer the flat hoses to the coiled ones. I find with the coiled hoses they get all tangled up in the bag, and I'm constantly fighting them wanting to retract when I'm using them. The standard hoses just work :)

      @goofingoffroad 5 місяців тому

      Congrats on the Desert Boss - I hope you're driving the wheels off that thing! The tonneau cover is working well for me. You can't roll it in a "circle" to get it past the sport bar - you have to roll it in an oblong. I'd definitely buy it again. I have one on the Power Wagon as well and they are both holding up superbly. If you plan on replacing the sports bar with a rack then I'd look at a Retrax tonneau cover, as it rolls underneath, leaving room for a lower rack.

    Even with a breaker bar I was unable to loosen the bolts on the snowplow mount. It kind of a ridiculous install process if it requires loosening something the manufacturer never intended to be loosened. They should sell different length brackets depending on your snowplow mount placement.

    • @goofingoffroad

      I'm surpridsed it was that hard to break loose. I used a 3ft breaker bar - maybe that will do the trick?

    Another great installation video. Believe it or not. I just removed that same bed step that was factory installed for more clearance and a better departure angle (video will be out in a few days). I did get a 3 step ladder that I keep in my bed to access the truck bed when needed. I can also use that ladder for other access around the truck. The Red Beast is tall...

    Nice video. I am going to get one of these covers so that it will work with my new rack (Dethloff Mfg Contour w/Rambox). I currently have the MX4 BakFlip version. I like the cover, but it won't work with my new rack :( At the time I didn't think I would get a rack when I purchased the other one. The Bakflip will hit the crossbars "flipping up" to open. Oh well, things happen. Hopefully I can sell it (gently used). At any rate, my question... I notice this cover does not use the drains on the utility rack like the MX4 version. How is the water ingress with this cover? Any issues?

    • @goofingoffroad
      @goofingoffroad 5 місяців тому

      I haven't had any water ingress issues with the cover. It is sealed on the sides well and the front and back have a good seal against the bed. The way its captured in the in the rails at the sides prevents the cover from flapping up and down when you're driving over bumps. However you will see water / dust ingress from the gap at the bottom of the tailgate, so you may want to add a seal to that.

    • @redbeastadventures
      @redbeastadventures 5 місяців тому

      @@goofingoffroad Thanks for the answer. I have already sealed up the bottom of the tailgate because I had a bunch of dust coming up from the trails. Just installed my new X4S and found that it doesn’t lock the cover on one side. I am going to take off one of the rails and put a washer behind it to push it iver far enough to engage the lock. Did you notice any issues with that on your truck?

    Those are not snowplow brackets lol.. those are called “comparability brackets” they are so if you smash into a car the car doesn’t go all the way under your truck and you kill everyone in the car. They act as teeth that gaha grown and stop the car from doing that. If you don’t have this skidplate thing, you can take the brackets off.

    Thanks for the video. I noticed when you released the clutch for the free spool it looked fairly easy to disengage. Mine is very tight. Can you verify that yours is fairly easy to turn the lever? If so, I may need to go the dealer to get mine adjusted...

      They replaced the winch under warranty. It is much easier to use the lever now. It was definitely not quite right. Also, the seals on one end had an issue and some grease was leaking out as well on the first one. The new one works great. Thanks for all of your installation videos on your channel. Good job!
