JC was an extremely talented guy. I do miss his presence in movies. As an early 80s kid, he occupied a significant place in my big screen memories. I watched planes n trains just before Christmas having not seen it for decades, it was such a treat. I'll watch Uncle Buck next.... Another classic. Gone far too young, RIP John.

I don’t get all the comparing John Candy to Robin Williams thing I’m seeing in comments on all the old Candy clips I’ve been watching lately. There’s no comparison, sure both were funny but John Candy was a one of a kind human being, well known for being just as friendly, warm and generous offscreen as he was in his movie roles. And in his dramatic scenes you could tell he played it from the heart, like the scene with the kids in the car from Uncle Buck John Hughes likes to reference when talking about Candy. Robin Williams in the end was a selfish little man who preached kindness and thinking of your fellow man first but then did the MOST selfish thing anyone can do and killed himself. John Candy’s death was a tragedy, Robin Williams’ death was a poor choice made from lack of character.
