    I have rock hard clay soil on much of my property, and a lot of the trees I’ve planted have utterly failed to thrive. I’m thinking I may be the exception where I have to amend a bunch at planting to help my poor trees survive and thrive. Even if the result contains the roots like a pot, at least I can make it like a BIG pot, and potted trees do better than many of my in-ground trees have done thus far!

    • @IncredibleEdibleLandscapes
      @IncredibleEdibleLandscapes Місяць тому

      That is unfortunate to hear! What size were the trees you planted? We've planted trees in very hard ground (partial road base, compact sand, limestone etc.) First, we recommend smaller trees for this case, and trees that are acceptable in your planting zone. Secondly, utilize a power planter which is basically a large drill tool, to loosen up the soil at least 6 feet wide and thrice the depth of the tree. You can do this with a shovel and yes it is quite a bit of labor, but doable! Followed by planting the tree straight into the natural soil with the amendments on top just like in the video. The tree may be slower to grow for the first year but will eventually establish. Container growing is perfectly fine depending on the tree and the variety, and we do agree with that in some cases!
